In May 2024 I tried FlixBus for the first time, travelling from Inverness to Edinburgh. Departing at 0920 with stops at Perth Bus Station, Perth Broxden Park & Ride, Halbeath Park & Ride and arriving at the final destination Edinburgh at 1325. Will the operator be successful in what appears to be a very busy route for a number of coach companies?
FlixBus is a German company which provides low-cost coach services between cities in Europe, North America, Brazil and Chile. Offering a staggering 400,000 routes to over 5,000 destinations in more than 40 countries the low cost coach operator has arrived in the Scottish Highlands! Having started services from Aberdeen in 2023, FlixBus has expanded into the Highlands, with Inverness, Aviemore and Pitlochry added to its network. FlixBus has partnered with McGill’s Bus Group to run services to Edinburgh and Glasgow.

The technical legal definition of a coach is a BUS on which no standing is allowed :-) so all coaches are, indeed, buses :-)

The Public Service Vehicles Accessibility Regulations 2000 regulation 2 “bus” means a public service vehicle designed and constructed for the carriage of both seated and standing passengers which is of category M2 or M3 (as defined in Annex II(A) to the 1970 Directive) and has a capacity exceeding 22 passengers, in addition to the driver; “coach” means a public service vehicle designed and constructed for the carriage of seated passengers only which is of category M2 or M3 (as defined in Annex II(A) to the 1970 Directive) and has a capacity exceeding 22 passengers, in addition to the driver;

I have used them many times now since they come up to Inverness, absolutely superb service, from friendly and welcoming drivers, clean and comfortable coaches and of course the price.. I will continue to use them again. Having a low budget it has allowed me to travel much more and further afield.. a welcome addition and much needed competition for Inverness and the Highlands. Rumours they looking at doing Inverness to Aberdeen

I've used Flixbus in Slovenia, Poland and Hungary, they offer a great cheap service. The great thing is you can book the seat next to you for a lot cheaper too, that way you get 2 seats to yourself. Handy for a 6 hour journey if you are 6ft 5! Plus the app is superb.

Great video. I'm traveling Birmingham to London at the end of July. I booked it a few months ago, and paid just £7.99 - an absolute bargain. However, being 6ft5, I wouldn't use Flixbus for more than a few hours. If I travel to Scotland (I live 5 miles from Gatwick), I'd definitely fly
