In this video Graeme gives you some tips on float fishing slow rivers. He goes through what floats to use, his float set up and the general rigs and tactics for float fishing rivers. He is based on the river Thames at Lechlade. Graeme also adopts an open ended feeder to help him cover different levels of the water coloumn.

Hi Graeme, another great video capturing the essence of simple fishing pleasure. I have the same problems with split shot but now use Stotz made by Preston's much easier to put on the line, I use style pincers to do this.To get same line on the river try overcasting, clip up and wind in say 10 turns which will give you enough line to trot down a slow river and try preloading wagglers with lead wire. Hope that helpsu

Graeme Pullen you are an inspiration. you and your son continue to provide me with totally awesome fishing techniques and old school methods which I particularly enjoy. As a beginner in comparison to TA I would like to know as I approach a water how can I get the most accurate reading of what is happening below the surface.Best regards Dan Pearson
@samfoster9419
@samfoster9419 7 жыл бұрын
Danny Pearson it sort of depends on the type of fish you are going for and what the weather is like to where you fish in the lake/river on certain days some fish come to the top and near the weeds and on others they are right at the bottom in the middle so u need to test different areas to see which places work better for you.

Hi Graeme, Enjoyed the video as always and as an angler of similar age to yourself with similar eyesight I can fully understand why you hate shotting floats and tying size 18 hooks....it sucks! I was wondering could you use dead wax worms to bulk out groundbait for bream?, a pet shop near me sells huge bags of them for a quid and as a tight Yorkshire man I like to make my own ground bait, as well as a lot of my own tackle I may add. Cheers Tim ( a fellow oldie)

You need a "bodied" float.Sounds like you are using a straight stem.Check with your local tackle shop,they may be able to help you. Mine is a bodied Avon,taking about 3bb shot,but faster rivers need heavier shotting.

@lewispatrick.7181
@lewispatrick.7181 7 жыл бұрын
Jack Carr the distance between the float and the hook depends on the depth of the water, get yourself a plummet which will help you to determine the depth of the water you attach it to the hook with the float attached to the line,if the float sinks move it closer to the rod and if it lays across the water adjust this till the coloured part of the float sits perfectly in the water,add your shot and you should be fine 👍
@insideout2600

@Zante_on_google
@Zante_on_google 8 жыл бұрын
+Liam Andrews people will make a competition out of anything: running, kicking, logging, eating and spitting, building and destroying, and... yes fishing and hunting too. I just say just pay them no mind and do your own thing. If that's fun for them leave them at it. The only thing I object to is people fishing loads of fish (mackerel being the prime example) and then not knowing what to do with them because they pulled up fifty in an afternoon. That is criminal waste.
