Balloon rig is super effective here in SoCal. We use it on Bluefin Tuna when you need to keep your baits near the surface, or even White Sea Bass when you need to drift your squid out. Good video.

Mahalo Davey! When the true North winds are strong (and also cold) here i head for the South shore for float rigging. Winds are at my back. Easy to get those rigs out.

Can you get bluefin with this rig from shore or is this on a boat

@@ssj4naka This is a shoreline rig. Bluefin Trevally? Yes sir!

I always use a steel leader and it still gets bit through where you are. Last year be caught a 10ft hammer right there.
@ScubaChris5 жыл бұрын
I'm always afraid to use wire leaders during the day there as it's highly visible. Night is better but the winds aren't right yet (onshores so far).
@frankschultz23825 жыл бұрын
@@ScubaChris I've never ran into that issue with the wire. I think it's the barracuda biting the line. Next time you go at the very beginning by that wall there's a huge eel right there. Bugga broke 2 poles and snapped 100lb line. It's a good 5-6ft long. It hides under that cement slab.

Not anymore. Someone caught it & left it in a foam box on the pier stinking up the whole place. The cream colored one with the spots, correct? Of course i had to dispose of it like everything else there. I'd like to send my thanks out to local angler Josh Madayag & military angler Chief Marshall for always helping me out by policing the area & helping me keeping it clean for others to enjoy. If any of you "bump" into these guys give them a big thanks for helping me haul garbage out of there.

Balloon fishing is really effective in Oklahoma City for catfish from shore. Since one of the local lakes is really shallow it helps bank fishermen get FAR into the middle of the lake. Lately that’s been the only way to catch fish.
@ScubaChris4 жыл бұрын
Sounds like your winds are helping you out. I use Life Savers to cut Lollipops to tie the balloons to my swivel. After 12-15min the candy dissolves & your bait will drop. Some use rolled TP.
@GPTInDaHouse4 жыл бұрын
Yeah that works great when the wind is roaring and the bait goes out fast but I’d rather keep the balloon on my line. I’ve seen guys at my lake use a high powered air soft rifle and a long range scope use it to pop their balloons when it’s far out. Those guys use the biodegradable and some rig that keeps the balloon pieces together. Those locals catch the big fish constantly.

@@ScubaChris I know this is a really late reply, but how do you like that rod for larger fish? I have the 12' daiwa costal sp surf currently, but want the 13' for the 50-80 larger shark/big game. Worth the money.

@@danielcabibbo8590 I was one of the main anglers who found a flaw in one of the Coastals so the company sent me replacements. They snapped at only casting 1/2 they're designations. The Ulua Rods have held Uluas to Sharks.

Hi, I like your videos but I have a suggestion you should do more fishing action and much less instructional videos. I suggest you should do 25% instructional and at least 75% more fish catching because in all your videos I see around 90% talking and instructional content and just 10% fishing action, thank you.

I get that a lot. I'd rather be sitting out there eating a sandwich falling asleep in my chair myself. But when i'm sent new equipment i'm required to field test them. Recently because of Covid i'm receiving new items at one time when before i had none. Also the State restricted fishing. Now all thats starting to subside. Thank you for your comment. Next week i'll be fishing again. Been awhile.
