I find it really, really curious and strange that for a decade or two now, people have been so accustomed to CGI, that they dismiss _everything_ unusual as CGI, even things that are not (both in fictional movies an in home videos)... I rhink the most famous fata morgana is the story of the "Flying Dutchman" myth we have here in Cape Town South Africa. The common illusion of boats flying above the horizon create the legend of a ghost ship carrying lost souls... cursed to wander for eternity, never finding land.

Not only was that reporter wrong when saying it's like a mirage of water on the highway, that's also not even a mirage. That happens because of reflection at grazing angles, see Fresnel's equations
