Looks good. If you made the door stile wider on one door in the center then cut a rabbit for the other door to close into it and a corresponding rabbit at the back of the other door it would hide the gap between doors when they are closed.

Beautiful work as always, Kyle. I really like the bevels on the front edges of the sides, top, and bottom. I noticed you cutting the bevels and wondered why, but the end result is fantastic.

For the trim holding in the glass you should pin it parallel to the pane. If you mitre the corners the pins only need to hold a shear load so the fit doesn't need to be really tight if you want to predrill to minimise the risk of splitting. Also you'll want to use a pin punch so you don't end up whacking the glass with the hammer.
@WoodByToth4 жыл бұрын
Not sure I follow, the glass is in its own groove and the trim is in another groove holding that in
@grant32264 жыл бұрын
@@WoodByToth I like this idea, definitely stealing it! Thanks
@HomoKieran4 жыл бұрын
@@WoodByToth As you have it currently, if those screws holding the trim ever come loose (like from repeated pushing on the glass) then the trim will fall away. Also it looks like you had trouble fitting the screw in the small gap between the edge of the glass. It works, it's just you'll probably find using nails parallel to the glass (90° to the screws) easier and will hold up better in the long term. You also wouldn't need to router out the second step for the trim, just make the trim the same width as the lip that holds the glass from the front.

Brilliant Kyle. You're always moving forward, making better projects. Ash is a much underrated wood. The subtle contrast between the white outside grain and the darker, complex inner. And further contrasts with any of the darker woods works even better. Here in the UK I can buy local ash for less than any softwood. What's not to like?
@WoodByToth4 жыл бұрын
It is really nice wood. Super hard and to me it reminds me of an industrial wood, the color and grain are awesome

So what are your thoughts on the Minwax Tung Oil Finish vs the old Formby's? I don't like it nearly as well. I find the color too amber and odor stronger. I hate that Minwax didn't simply reproduce the formula when they bought Formbys. BTW, great cabinet

Awesome work as always Kyle. One question on the build, what was the purpose of putting the shallow domino mortise on the back? Also, that ending reminded me that I think it's time for 2020 blooper video. I love going back and watching the first one you posted, makes me feel like I'm not the only one with those types of mistakes.

I was enjoying it until you filled it with eye-herpes. After a decade of watching PC hardware manufacturers cram RGB into literally everything for no frickin' reason it takes every fiber of self-control I have not to peace out the window by my desk and find a muddy hole in the swamp where I can wait until the uncontrollable full-body shaking subsides. Great work though. Can't believe you have the patience to route out that entire backboard. I'd have set it on fire halfway through.
