I travelled through Birmingham back in the late 70's early 80's on my Dad's boat as a kid. We did the IWA rally at Titford Pools. It looks a lot better now than it did back then. The water was black and smelled horrid every time you stirred up the black mud on the bottom.

The journey down farmers bridge locks struck a chord with me. I am a Birmingham lad and when I was about 9 years old on Saturday mornings me and my friend David would go to Birmingham science and industry museum in Newhall st. The museum straddled both sides of the canal and the two sides were joined by a bridge across the the canal. The bridge looked as though it was about to fall down. Had wonderful hours in the museum and I can still remember some of the exhibits more than 60 years ago. All has now been redeveloped with giant tower blocks. Regards from Redruth Arnold

OH My! what a complete nightmare through Birmingham locks.....and under a bridge!!!! Birmingham looks unrecognizable to me.. lots changed in 20yrs, eh. Fran did really well with all the locks, not sure I would. The boat is looking so good, are you really going to paint it all red on the sides ? the contrasting blue breaks up the red and makes your boat stand out from others. Thanks for uploading, as usual brilliant. Rich-any pics of the yestur years as a boy on the canals? We went to Butlins at Lowerstoff (Ugh) for our hols as kids.
@FloatingOurBoat5 жыл бұрын
Hi Becky. The jury is still out on the paint. We were going to keep the blue, but although you may not see it on the videos, the shade of blue and red don't quite work. We will decide when all the red bits are done. Rich has been looking for photos, but we think they are all on slides. we will try to find some .

You have the red paint left over. Or cream. Or black, certainly. Even stones. Find round rock the grey color and tan color around the canals until you have enough pieces for the game. Or a branch that has dried, you can slice 1cm slices and paint half of them. Or pick a second color and paint all of them 2 different colors. Whatever way you decide to manage it, the stones are the easiest part of the game to replace. Even the 25mm tiles in 2 colors. Nothing says that they have to be round. Great video! Thanks for taking us along down to your childhood days. Did you grow up on a Narrowboat?

when I place marked the Farmers Bridge locks on Google Earth I couldn't believe the convoluted path between buildings under buildings bridges a lot of the locks could not be seen but you could figure it out, this side of a building lock 11 the other side lock 8, lock 9 was under the bridge so 10 is under or by the building but you can't see that side.
