It’s great to see you back on the boat. You both look great so married life and a wonderful honeymoon has clearly done you both good. The colours on the canal are so nice at this time of year and I’m really looking forward to following you as you cruise through Autumn and Winter. It’s been really cold today so I was pleased to see the coal on the roof of the boat! It was a good excuse to make a delicious vegan hot chocolate, give it a go it’s just almond milk, a couple of dates stoned and soaked in a small amount of boiling water, a few drops of vanilla essence and a heaped tablespoon of cocoa powder, blend everything and warm in a pan. It will be lovely in front of your stove 😋 Thanks for the book 😁 I really appreciate that.

I remember one Easter taking the boat from the Britannia in Northampton, to The New Inn at Long buckby we had everything thrown at us that day started off sunny, then rain, which turned to sleet, then into snow and then back to sunshine again as we moored up. still had a great day. I cannot help it but have a good day when on the cut.

It was rediculously slow. Rich starded opening it then told me I was ok to go through the access tunnel but I nearly crashed into it as it was only up a few feet!!!

Great to have you back. How did you get on with the top two locks at Salterhebble. Very short although going up is not so bad. We reversed in going down, much less stressful.

They were absolutely awaful. Coming up,the boat got pushed hard back against the bottom gate and I nearly got stuck under the walkway again. The worst locks on the system for me. I was so scared!!!

Welcome back!! The picture is lovely and you both look relaxed. That’s a job well done! I am very happy for you both! While I have good winter boots with decent traction, they are of only limited help when things are that slick. So I also have a pair of crampons which are metal cleats on rubber strips that stretch over the bottom of your shoes. I keep them in the little box that they came to me in, in the glove box of the truck. Almost always when I need them it is to take husband to the doctor. Otherwise I don’t go out when it is that slick. Because my 4x4 truck will slide, too, when it is that slick. I could have 12 wheel drive and will still slide if it is solid ice. Anyway (sorry), you don’t want to wear metal cleats like golf shoes in the boat and the cleats would do serious damage (chips) to the stone. But when it is slick enough to be a serious hazard, I might be worth having a pair to slip over your shoes near a door. I don’t remember when I bought them but they cost me around $10. Amazon carries them and if you don’t leave them out to freeze or get too hot, they will last for years. If they get too hot and/or too cold, the rubber straps will get brittle and break. Just a thought. I can’t think of any shoes that have a sandy bottom, as that would be helpful without damaging the floors and stones. Hmmmm...... Anyway, congratulations and welcome back. Floating Our Boat - crampons would be incredibly destructive to both the stone and the wood, you are right. But you won’t be slipping on the edge and whacking your head on the way down. Unless, of course, the stone is harder than the metal on the studs or spikes. Then? Oh dear. Yeah, it can be a question of ....oh dear!.......I popped that brain cell mid sentence...the lessor of two evils. I wonder how long the wood would last on ground that moist with people wearing spikes? A month? Two? I hear you. Certainly not something you would want to do casually. Maybe you could learn Olympic style figure skating. Then you can pirouette mid slide and reverse the direction of your fall.
