This is impressive results. And the F25 is a compelling option if you're stuck deciding between a 20 and a 25 tiller, the Yamaha F25 is basically a strong 20 as it is a 2 cylinder design, it has less displacement (432cc) as the 3 cylinder brands (500cc) but more than the 20hp 2 cylinder options (>350cc). It is a true in between and offers the best combo of power and weight savings. I'd like to know what the fuel burn difference is compared to a Tohatsu 25 and see if having less displacement makes a difference (even though the Tohatsu is working less hard).

i am going to start off with saying good luck with your captain license. i am a 100 ton QMED. generally speaking, you should hit rev limiter unloaded, but never loaded. adjust prop pitch accordingly (+/- 1 pitch) in your case. it seems like your boat could only accommodate 2 or 3 persons max. factor in the weight of the people and gear +(cooler of beer). all of the weight will mostly make its way toward the front which will make planing more difficult. if you did your speed test in fresh water you may want to go to salt on a calm day. you will gain some speed for bragging rights. saltwater is more dense and the boat floats higher. same way when we swim in it (easy to tread water). pitch the prop for how you will use it commercially and keep the prop now for recreational use. stainless props are nearly indestructible and have incredible wear resistance to bumping in to sand bars and such. however, they are heavy and send a shock wave to the gears in the lower unit when shifting gears.

@@MountainManKm the Horse power is required to push against the water. If a hull is efficient and does not produce much drag force then you could have enough speed even from less strong motor if it has same propeller pitch and RPM. Because of that yamaha 2.5hp is twice faster vs competitors.

@@RUS_US I have a 15hp yamaha 2 stroke, I want to cut and weld my own exhuast, widen it, and make it bigger, mill the head just a tad, drill biggers jets and build a cold air intake for the carb, I know also depending on the height that you have the engine on the transom makes a difference and like you said your pitch and rake, I guess I just never thought about it like that. I mean I knew the hull shape mattered and I knew the prop did too, but ur right if the rpm is matched with a good hull and prop it can go just as fast. I still wouldnt believe it would be faster in acceleration.

@FloBass3 жыл бұрын
On this boat the trim angle made no difference in top speed. It rides on a very small pad. Even with a 9.9 it would ride on a small pad. It really needs a jack plate to raise the motor to go faster. Then you’d most likely need a prop with more pitch.

The truth is I put the 11 back on because I prefer to have that perfect blend of hole shot and mid range beastly power and ease of on plane times and be satisfied with 27 mph top speed. I used a solas amita prop and I have a chirping or kind of squealing going on which drove me nuts, not sure why. I never had that happen with stock prop. I also noticed my motor mount bolts were loose, this may have been the cause of the noise. (22 hrs. total time on the boat and Motor). I will retest on the next nice day. I posted a video last night of the chirping noise. - Thanks, Jeff

It would be nice though... to be able to put in at the fresh water canal/river at both ends of my street... and cruise the 5 to 10 miles to salt from the end of my road. I had a $3,800 lb Sea Ray and the motor would push that boat at 36 same motor on an 1800 lb boat top speed the same 36 it depends on how the gearing is and the prop that you're using. If it's just you and the livewell you could go with a speed problem and get a lot more speed. If you're going to put two more people on the boat keep the torque prop

Fast enough . I'd be happy with that
@FloBass4 жыл бұрын
It's definitely a good speed for what I need it to do with passengers and the well. I wont take the boat faster than 25 when I have passengers. There are a lot of long runs I'll be making when I fish alone, so I will eventually get a prop with more pitch to bring the rpm down to a better operating range at wot. It will get better fuel efficiency dropping down 500 or so rpm too.

Which pitch porp are you using their bud i can get up to 25 mph on my f 25 yamaha 11x 9 1/2
@FloBass3 жыл бұрын
Stock prop that came on it. 9-7/8 x 11-1/4. The tracker is super light with just me in the boat, and no other gear it bangs the rev limiter, so it could go faster with a higher pitch, but it would decrease torque to get up on plane. The motor is now on a 15 foot mod V duck boat & the factory prop is perfect to get the boat on plane with me and two passengers. It pushes the boat about 24mph with that kind of load.

I've seen where ppl will attach a piece of rubber mat onto their transom to help keep the backwash out. Make it about 3 or 4 inches taller. Not rocket science. I'd love to see my 1640 hit 30 mph. We race to the duck holes on a river.

Just saw it on your description, was going to say sure sounds like it's hitting the Rev limiter. You need a spare prop anyways might as well go up a couple pitches. It will probably go just as good on a longer boat. Happy guiding.
@FloBass4 жыл бұрын
I’m talking with a few prop shops to get a better understanding of the science behind it. I’m sure it would push a 16” just as fast. I’ll upgrade the boat when I run a dozen or so guide trips out of this one.

I’ve been saving for a new outboard all winter. I think you sold me on this one. It’s very close in price to the 20 Merc efi I was looking at, but way faster. How’s the back of your boat sit with the 25? I have a 9.9 Honda that weighs like ~117lbs so I reckon this would be about the same at ~126lbs. I have a 14’ v with a 52” transom, so slightly wider than your 1436. Concerned about weight cause I’m kinda fat lol
@FloBass4 жыл бұрын
With a normal amount of gear I don't see you moving slower than 25mph. Definitely get one with an electric start though. Its only $300 more and worth every penny.

Weight distribution is the key to performance on a small Jon boat.Good luck on your captains license!Too bad you do not have the integrated live well in the center seat.
@FloBass4 жыл бұрын
I've been looking at 1650's with the seat livewell, but only issue is I bait up with threadfin shad for clients, and they don't last in square wells. You need round edges and a circular flow of water. I'm hoping I can modify a 1650LW model with my well.

If you put hydro foils on your cavitation plate it should get on plain I got a 9.9on a 14 ft v hull and I get 22 mph and also tried trimming up the motor then hydrofoils will allow you to do that which will save on gas and more weight in the bow also love your content man
@FloBass4 жыл бұрын
Boat gets up on plane in 2 seconds so I don’t think a hydrofoil is needed. By myself I got 22mph with the 9.9. About 18 with me and the well full. But once you add another person or another 140lbs the 9.9 would only push 9mph. That’s just not sustainable for what I’m trying to do.

I don't remember the specs. I did get a shot of the specs stamped onto the prop in my unboxing video. When I have a passenger and some gear in the boat its the perfect pitch and diameter. I average somewhere between 26 - 29 mph
