Thank you, Flo, As a former stockbroker, l would advise any investor to delay your interest payment collection till the end of the T.B. tenor. If that is done, a 20% T.B. will yield the investor a 24.98% at the maturity. The extra % could pay for all charges and will have leftover. This is possible bcos.... 1.... Inerest is paid upfront.. 2......Investment is multiplies of N1,000. Or minimum of N1000. I did that to my clients then and they were so grateful..... a N1m investment will give you N1,249,800 .00 at maturity.

@shollz465
@shollz465 4 ай бұрын
@@TheGoodQ Are you spending your money in naira or dollars? This is the question you should ask yourself first. Every investment must have a solid goal behind it. If you want to spend your money in dollars probably in the US or pounds in UK then invest over their. Meanwhile, let me burst your bubble, Nigeria still has one of the best ROI on investments compare to most places in the world. You can fact check me. Compare the dividend return on stocks, bonds or Tbills in the US or UK with that of Nigeria, they are not up to the ROI in Nigeria even though they are in a stronger currency. Let's try to educate ourselves properly when it comes to finance or financial education in general and not only say things because others with ulterior motive or intention or due to lack of enough knowledge on that subject are saying it. Hope you find this helpful. Cheers!

Flo, you are correct regarding the WHT (currently). The comparison is rather generalized though i.e. b/w TBs and FGN bonds. My opinion is that for larger players or more savvy investors, you can also reinvest your upfront TB interest - especially if you have 1 or 2 other streams of regular income. This may not apply to smaller players, like I said. That said, I like how you've simplified it for your audience. Well done!

Correct! My videos are always simplified so everyone is carried along. 👍 Each video has one aim and one aim only. The aim of this one is to show that WHT is charged on TBills.

Thank you for this information. What I did was to invest in treasury bills at 20 percent and then collected the upfront interest and bought another tranch of TBs at 20 percent. This would bring the total interest to somewhere close to 20 percent even with the tax charge. In your example if you Reinvest the 180k upfront interest you could potentially get something close to 20k which when computed with your initial N1m would give you about 20 percent. When you have higher volumes say 50m you can Reinvest more than 2 times potentially increasing the returns even further while creating a ladder of returns that could be reaped according to the frequency of your repurchase. Alternatively, you could Reinvest upfront interest in stocks or bonds. What do you think about this strategy?

The tax clause is even on the TBills forms of some banks. But i don't think the amount is so significant compared to the present rate of 23% for 364 days you will be getting. Also, when i consider the time value of money. Knowing i will be getting my interest upfront which can also be reinvested, Tbills is not a bad deal at all.

Last month, I received some money that I intend to use in a few months. So I decided to invest in treasury bills, rather than leaving it in my account. I was surprised when I got to the bank and they told me they charge a withholding tax. I couldn't believe it and thought the banker I met was giving me the wrong information. That's because I learnt on this channel years ago that there is no withholding tax on treasury bills. So I went to another bank to verify and the information was the same. If not that I know the credibility of the channel I follow and watch, I would have gotten angry. I just concluded that there were definitely some changes on the terms and conditions of treasury bills, which Flo Finance hasn't updated. I made enquiries at Fidelity, Zenith, First, and UBA banks, and I can categorically state that these banks charge 10% withholding tax on treasury bills. Thanks for this video Flo Finance, it clarifies a lot.

I have only 3 videos about treasury bills on this channel. I MAY have said it was tax exempt in the video I made back in 2020 and yes, back then it was. The good thing is that you asked around before investing. Sadly, this tax-free wrong information is still being peddled around till this day. In fact I saw a "financial guru" with a large following saying earlier this year that TBills are tax exempt and the followers run with such information. This shows that they don't even invest in these things they talk about.

The interest of 20.85% is per annum that is 365 days. But this TBills is for 364 days. 😄 Why they don't make it 365 and rest, your sister does not know. The rate on CBN website is the rate at the Primary Market, for those investing 50 Million Naira. The dealers in the secondary market are reselling so you will see different rates. You can shop around for the best rates but I no get time for that. Please Flo, can you make a video on how to go about investing for people in diaspora. Please state all the different instruments and companies that can help.
@FloFinance

Nigerians in the diaspora can invest in every investment opportunity I make videos about. You just need to meet the prerequites which is having an active Naira bank account and having a valid ID issued by the Nigerian government. For instance, watch this video from start to finish: kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGWcg6mDYq9-pbM

Good Morning flo, I invested 21 million last three weeks on ZENITH BANK, I was paid an upfront of 4,183,000 or there about. The charges were Custodian fee and other small fees totalling about 27,000 naira or so. I never saw any where it was written withholding tax. Or will the withholding tax be charged later After one year?
@luthermohandas5213

4,173,000 naira not 4,183,000. That's a typographical error.

From what I see, you must have invested with the June 26th auction rates which was 20.68% and from these numbers, you were paid 20%. If you do not see any WHT anywhere on the letter they sent to you confirming your investment, it means they did not charge you any. Usually, all charges are deducted prior to paying you interest. Unless by some weird process, Zenith deducts it at the end of the tenor. But on the same document where they gave details of this investment, you should see the amount you will receive at the end of the tenor. Thank you very much for this information. Finally someone that answered my question with details on top. Marching to my stockbroker's office! They have a question to answer.

Buy dollars at today's exchange rate of N1,500? This same refrain no dey taya una? 😆 The people that bought dollars in March are still holding it ooo, no opportunity to sell yet. They have not made a dime on it. Meanwhile the people that have been investing in Naira denominated ones have made money over and over. You all should face the government to fix this country else no "investment" is safe. In quotes because I don't even consider buying dollars and keeping under your bed an investment.

@FloFinance Dollars investment is about information. I bought when CBN injection 1.5 billion dollars in the economy to cushion dollars scarcity. It was trading at N1060 to a dollar. I am selling now at N 1600. I made N540 (51% return on each dollar) in less than four months. No stock will bring me such a return. Am currently waiting for CBN to inject dollars so that I can buy at a lower price.

@@trendingviews4086 I'm glad you accepted that it is very bad advice to tell me to buy dollars today. At what price would I sell? And you bought back in March? April? Because that was when the CBN patched the Naira. How many months ago and you think you made money? If you depended on this to eat, hunger for don kpai you since then. 😭

@FloFinance It's only land that you can buy and keep because it is expected to be appreciated in the future. Traders do not keep financial assets and shares because the value can erode within a short time. Changes in share price with a short period can yield more return than dividend.

Please as a diaspora investor with this recent Government be very wary. It’s hard to do genuine business with a Government whose president is a crook especially when it’s with the Central bank or Shares/Treasury bills. See what he has done with lands and buildings in Lagos. Be very wary this Govt is just looking out to get money from any and everyone.
