Amazing job holy cow that's a lot for a week! Btw, instead of drawing a line trace to check if you're on the ground, there's an "on landed" boolean built in to blueprint that you can use. Not sure if it'll work if you don't take one of the pre-made character controllers but I imagine it would lol
@quantum96511 ай бұрын
I did NOT expect to see you here
@minilabyrinth2 жыл бұрын
You can use the blueprint node "is in air?" or whatever it's called, and if false, then don't jump. Or also, make an event "on ground landed" and restore your available jump charges
@Floky2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I couldn't figure out how to make it work with a character that doesn't have the unreal character component so I just gave up on that... 😂

@@Floky If its a physics object, enable "generate hit events" then in blueprints you can use an "on hit" event and make something happen when you collide with anything (such as landing on ground). I noticed this plays nonstop for rolling balls so you gotta filter out ground movement by putting a branch before your stuff and checking the vector length of the hit, then only continuing if its above a certain amount

to fix the jumping without being on the ground, you could use a "branch" with the condition with " is falling" if your falling, do nothing, if you are not not, jump

The "Is falling node" is not automatically available to a pawn that is not a child of the default unreal engine character class... I’ll share how I did it just in case it helps you in the future. I put a box collider at my characters feet to detect ground collision. Then I put a sphere collider over the character but a little bit higher than the feet to allow for easy movement up steps. I hear that ray casting is better, and while I did try it I could get the visual ray to show up to see what I was doing, so I did the box collider which is basically the same thing if just a tad worse.

I think most chose Unity because it had a very, very low bar for entry that made it so anyone can experiment and learn. Unreal for decades had done like everyone else until Unity challenged that model. Now it seems like the rest of the industry is getting behind the Unity model. Before Unity there were others sure, but they were for very specific things. Some even limited you to working within 32x32. Just some history and perspective.

once you learn unity you should pick up unreal no problem. for me my 4k envi look way better in unreal 5
@Athasin2 жыл бұрын
I think most people chose Unity because it was the cheapest of the two engines, which made it perfect for Indie studios. Then since everyone was using it, there were more tutorials. But since Epic changed their pricing and revenue split, people are going towards Unreal, so give it a few years and you might start seeing more tutorials for it.

You didn't learned anything , you followed a toturial , this is not game dev . Nice for first time but you didn't build any mechanic or map , or learned basic code . @Floky2 жыл бұрын
This is not really true, I always was transparent with how I did it and even what course I followed (as shown in the video), but I redid the entire movement system, the jumps, dash and even most of the grapples code is entirely me, the terrain mechanics are also mostly created by myself without tutorial... I don't know exactly what you expected but I think I've put enough of my own thoughts and code to call it my own and even the things that came from the guide is mostly changed to fit in with the rest... But if you're point is that I followed a course and didn't just learn everything out of thin air, then yes, you are right and I am sorry you feel mislead :)
