Compassion to the victims are needed. Donate, donate, donate, time, money, kind words. Please be psychologically ready too. The stress and tedious rebuilding ahead can ruin a lot of families and relationship. Just remember, every dark cloud has a silver lining. I learnt a lot from my suffering with my Sandy destroyed home, that there were so much caring, love, sympathy and help from all over the country. God Bless! Thanks for posting.

believe me, we were definitely praying for the Sandy victims. So many up there had no idea how fast and destructive a hurricane could be. We cringed when we saw video of people saying they were going to ride it out.

much appreciated! Keep the prayers and strong backs coming. This is far from over and when the novelty wears off so does the assistance. With Labor Day coming, I hope many will take advantage of the opportunity to help us in need. I will never sit buy and watch something like this happen without jumping in to help. It has changed my life forever.

Amazing that some of the houses and commercial establishments took on water whereas others were high and dry... but just barely. My thoughts to the people who had to flee and then returned to see their properties a muddy mess (even if it's just the yards).

This is quite dumb to ask or I don't know but I see a lot of houses on the first floor almost to second floor being flooded with a lot of valuables, besides furnitures, like items, carry-able objects, etc that can be saved but seeing other footages they're just being left there to get destroyed by the flood, wouldn't you want to bring every valuable in the house that is carry-able to the highest point or an attic, so you would lessen the damage and loss of personal stuff? Cause you kinda had a decent amount of time to move all personal items, belongings etc to the highest point of your house. My friend told me he even carried all his electronics and his 3000$ PC up to his attic XD
@bradwhittier20988 жыл бұрын
in most single story dwellings , the attic access is two and a half feet by 3 feet. Most Furnishings would not fit and the loss of life was a greater concern then the loss of valuables. The rescue efforts happened so fast that it was get out or risk dying. Most people chose to just get out knowing what we faced with Katrina 11 years ago. No one could fathom that the waters would rise over a foot per hour. Most people went to bed Saturday night thinking the waters were receeding only to wake up Sunday morning and put their feet over the edge of their bed into a foot of water with literally less than three hours to get out.
@jennw.65086 жыл бұрын
I know you posted this a year ago but as someone who went through this the water was rising at an incredibly fast rate I woke up the morning it all happened and alerted my parents that the ditch in the backyard was over flooded and they didnt believe me, withing 20 min it was up to our back porch and soon in our home. Many people weren't worried because water does rise down here but this was like nothing anyone had seen. People were more worried about getting to safety than saving their personal things.

Ya, I have several friends and family that lost everything here In the Denham and Watson areas. As for my neighborhood though, we were all blessed, our homes were spared. One of my childhood friends that was living off of Pete's hwy In Denham during the time, ended up with 4 feet In her house too. Her and her husband had to wade through knee deep water to hop on one of the boats that was rescuing people In their neighborhood In the middle of the night, all while she carried their new born, and her husband carried their 5yo. Another family friend of ours got 5 feet of water In her house, but as soon as everything started getting back to normal, she was diagnosed with breast cancer just a couple months later. Then my 93 year old grandfather that lives out In Pride, got a foot of water In his house that's already set at 2 feet off the ground. Him and my grandmother had been living In that house for 70+ years. Its the house that my now deceased father and his sisters grew up In. My grandmother has been living at an old folks home for the past year now, so my grandfather was home alone when the water started rising. My cousins that lived down the road from his place, had to get their boat out and go rescue him. Now the local weather Is saying we might get 5 to 6 inches of rain this weekend. My house didn't even get flooded and the thought of this happening again even has me paranoid.
