FLOOD! Stranded on our Narrowboat home for 3 days

To say it has been an eventful week would be an understatement, we knew when we moved onto this mooring for winter that it was prone to flooding, but we didn't expect it this soon, or this intense! Thankfully we have an amazing community around us to keep the spirits high!

Thank you for sharing your flood experience. I was on the River Avon and loved the flooding as I could put to test my emergency food stock. I didn't have a dog then so well done for braving the water. Yes waders are a must have and sturdy poles to keep you off the bank. 2007 I think was the worst flood in the avon and boats were scattered across the fields. I know in America we say you need to put your Crocs in 4 wheel drive when you flip the heel strap down. Not sure if that's a saying there but you definitely need those in 4 wheel drive when you're wading out there! Lol!!!

I'm amazed at how gentle the current was as your part of the river flooded. Flooding rivers in NZ tend to be extremely damgerous with fast flows. But then most of the rivers aren't really aren't boatable except for white water canoeing or rafting.

You have to bang poled in between the tow path and the boat , so the boat can not go on the tow path ,otherwise your boat will sink

Welcome to the boating community! I should say where we are moored is renowned for flooding and we knew that before taking the winter mooring, so hopefully yours won't be as bad if/when it floods! boaters are so helpful though so should be able to give you advice in the local area

@@thefloatinghome17 hopefully in the next couple of weeks i get enough bottle to go n check out a couple of boats at whilton marina will be the must money i have spent a single item..just out of interest with crt jacking up boat licence and extra charge for cc and threats of shutting down parts of the network do you think boat life is still a good life option..p.s not doing it to save money i think the lifestyle would suit me. thanks jason

It had fun and not fun moments, it was both amazing and challenging! No you can't move its too dangerous and the river was higher than the bridges so there is no where to go!

I would see if you can get your hands on an indoor dog pee station. It's a square of artificial turf that allows dogs to pee on the grass and then you can just hose everything off... It would make things easier if you get stranded again! ...or if it gets very cold and you don't want to get off the boat! 😂
