Hello there. Thank you for another really nice video. My suggestions are block part of the golf course drainage pipe to reduce the flow into the brook. However, the club will probably not be to happy with this, as their course will take longer to dry out. Re the flood plain, widen the brook to cope with the increased flow of water and dig out an additional channel or two. You could also plant some weeping willow trees in the area. They are very thirsty trees, with an extensive root system, and will dry the land out. However, they are prone to fungal diseases. Personally, I would leave the area as it is and plant wetland plants such as bull rushes, yellow flag irises and such like. I really do envy that land owner. Looking forward to your next vid. Take care.

Hi Colin, thanks for your ideas. I actually have the local WI ladies growing willow trees to help this area 😃👍 I like the idea of embracing a pond with the plants you mentioned. Lovely suggestion.

I suggest removing only bottom half of the drainage pipe by cutting it at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions. This would allow the water to fall away earlier at removing some of its energy.

That's a good suggestion Mike - simple yet effective 👍 thanks, I'll give it some thought

@@PlanetSavingNovice over time, the top half of the pipe will begin to curve down thus aiding in your efforts to direct the water down instead of out.

I think that the lowest area where the water sits and stagnates needs to be filled in a bit so that it is at a level that will encourage drainage to continue on back to the river. Of course filling in a floodplain can create other issues so it depends on the area surrounding the low area, it would probably require removing dirt from another area perhaps closer to the river to maintain the floodplain volume. The pipe from the golf course should be shortened and a concrete velocity reducer installed. Great video! I look forward to seeing what is done to help the situation. One really big high volume flooding event might crest a whole new meandering river channel!

What would I do? Perhaps I've missed it (I'm sure you'll have done this already), but first of all I'd check downstream and clear any blockage on the landowner's land. What should the landowner do? Give you a job (definitely). There's loads for you to get stuck into and we'd happily watch your educational and informative videos all day. Thanks so much!

Hi Avid, thanks for your comment. I haven't actually checked too far downstream for blockages but the one in the video could definitely do with looking at 👍 haha I would love to be given the job 🤩

Hi PSN, another great vblog😎my suggestion would be as you say put a natural restriction for the flow at the point it starts to detour onto the private owners land, but troth thro to allow a better flow and why not create a pond at the point where the detour ends before returning to the river to allow for the volume of the flood. My reasoning would be to allow the river to keep flowing, prevent any stagnant water and in courage wild life, anyway not an expert, would love to hear your thoughts😎

Hi Michael, thanks for your comment. I actually asked an expert recently and they also said create a pond so I would say you're semi-pro 😁 the pond and water loving plants would definitely encourage a wider range of wildlife to the area. Great suggestion 👍

Could you curve the pipe or put a bend at the end? Even putting a bend at the top of the pipe might help but not if the rest is totally straight. That’s how rivers slow themselves with meandering. Otherwise you have to put an energy dissipation device…
