I don't think it's well explained, but pretty much all of the fighting on Earth has happened in that one region of Africa, in both Halo 2 and Halo 3. All of Earth's remaining defenses have been largely untouched, so it makes sense for Hood to stay there and prepare for any potential attack in case Chief and Miranda aren't successful. He is the leader of the UNSC, after all. Him leaving would be a bad look. btw, I'm surprised you don't want to use the AR or SMGs on the Flood...they're all about overwhelming numbers, so letting loose with two SMGs into a giant crowd of Flood can actually be pretty effective

Yup Hood's position is completely justified. It's pretty much "Either sacrifice earth and chase Truth, Elite and UNSC stay and try to defend earth, or split up." He chooses door 3. He doesn't like having to fight a war on two fronts, but he has no choice. The loss of Earth is pretty much the end of humanity. Some forces have to stay in case the flood, or even some sort of covenant fleet, show up.

9:48 to be fair, the soldiers' shell-shocked reaction is not unfounded or unexpected. to watch your own friends or allies because infected and turned into twisted monsters with one mindset to kill and claim you as another host is more than terrifying if you think about it. much like many zombie games your friends and fellow soldiers are often a lifeline you rely on, so when you see them injured your first instinct is to help them, but when they get infected by the flood how can you "help them"? understanding that the floods greatest strength when attacking a planet is turning its own population on itself, but the most terrifying thing about the floods ability is that it doesn't have to kill its victims to infect them as we saw with captain Keys in the first game.

I've seen people suggest that his allies weren't even infected but that he killed them in a mental break from the fear and shellshock, thinking he was helping

I'm not certain if you've noticed, but spike grenades fire spikes straight out of the top of them in a cone when they explode - So while throwing them like frag or plasma grenades isn't always effective, you can stick them to walls and ceilings to hit enemies that are around corners and behind cover! They actually do really high damage if they hit right

It is pretty fair of what Lord Hood was thinking because in all technically if Truth wanted to activate the Ark or any of the Halo rings they would still need a human. And Truth doesn’t have any humans with him when he went to the Ark so in retrospect the heroes not going to the Ark would be the safest solution because Truth would literally not be able to do anything. 😂

Lord Hood goes with you through the portal he puts all his faith in Master Chief. The flood has evolved since Halo 2 as now they have a Gravemind and mobile hive which puts them firmly into the interstellar outbreak stage which is terrifying. They can now make pure forms which is what those big tanky ones were as well as the spider like ones and the ranged forms which I hate with a passion. BTW Hunters cannot be infected by the flood as they don't have a central nervous system and are made up of millions of individual worms.

Blasted through them! One thing to note is that, unlike previous games, regular melee attacks actually deal good damage to flood. Try it next time. You won't see the flood for a while though, but when you do... The next mission might dethrone your current fave, it's epic. Looking forward to it.

@@eldeeable In general, melee attacks were at their weakest in Halo 2. I think it may be because they wanted to implement some kind of melee combo mechanic (you can see this in the E3 demo) but it did not make it into the final game, and they never buffed the single melee to compensate. Just speculation though.

Yep, Lord hood Will stay at earth defending It. Máster chief, Miranda, arbiter AND the shipmaster are going into the portal There are 9 ships from the shipmáster AND 1 from Miranda (Forward unto Dawn)

The Elites glassed the city of Voi (where you were) and a few towns around. So when Lord Hood said "you glassed half a continent" he was being dramatic.

@danielperezcervera7841 Actually, lord hood was not exaggerating. the elites did glass almost half of Africa in a rushed attempt to ensure the flood didn't spread too far from the impact site, and for good reason, as the Shipmaster mentioned shortly after, "One single flood spore can destroy a species." which honestly was an understatement.

The new Flood are called pure forms. They're not infected creatures but formed from pure biomass which allows them to shapeshift between several forms.

Eyooo! If you liked The Storm for having a variety of everything, you're going to ADORE The Ark and The Covenant (the next two levels after Floodgate!). Widely considered two of the best levels in the entire series. Shame it's immediately followed by the the level Cortana (widely considered THE worst, lol), but thankfully it's short and the final level after that (conveniently called "Halo", which you'll note is the same title as the second level of the original game 😜) mostly makes up for it and ends Halo 3 on a high-note! Can't wait to watch you finish the fight!

The levels are starting to get really saucy now I will give you some advice especially for the later flood levels one truth and one lie. One the flamethrower is pure sesame seed buns in this game and two is the brute shot does insane slashing damage to the flood pure forms. This may or may not come in handy later haha. The game gave you the Battle rifle and AR since the BR is precision weapon and the AR is the generalist weapon. You can headshot the flood combat forms by aiming at the flood infected form located around the chest area.

Lord Hood is a Fleet Admiral and the head of the UNSC, he makes the difficult choice to allow both Master Chief and Miranda Keyes head on through the portal but he still has a duty and the responsibility to defend Earth and what is left of humanity as a whole. Note that both sides of the covenant (Brute side and Elite side) still call you 'The Demon' though one says it out of insult and the other as a mark of respect. Meanwhile the Flood refer you as 'Armored Casket.' Just curious did you have thoughts of looking into the Halo novels at all?

I’m not sure why but arby seems to get stuck up there a lot and it cuts some very interesting dialogue out he has with his fellow brothers at 12:08 and it goes by this: Arby: My brothers, I fear you bring bad news. Elite: High Charity has fallen! Become a threaded hive! Arby: And the fleet? Has quarantine been broken? Elite: A single ship broke through our line, and we gave chase! Arby: But we had a fleet of hundreds?! Elite: Alas brother, the flood.. it has evolved! I wish that would’ve played it’s so cool but bone chilling to hear even 18 years later since release! P.s. Oh and the elites make me so happy they’re like literally homies here I love them to death😂❤ and they still call you “Demon” too lol

"There are many in the halo community that refer to them as 'Popcorn Flood', but this one calls them 'Nostril'. From this day forward we should now refer to them as 'Nostril'🐽." Its a tradition in Halo games that there's a crazy/unstable marine, but they never oof themselves so you don't have to worry about that one marine and its actually in reference to the 1986 Aliens movie character William L. Hudson where he says "Game over man!". You also just witness the true form of the flood or at least one them. I also breakout laughing when you said "Its a bunch of Arbs." and "We're having a family reunion" its was adorable funny🤣.
