Hi fellas, good shopping there!! If you're trying to give shopping up as a hobby don't come to me as I and enjoying it with you! LOL I was amazed at how wet your yard was, yet it seemed to take you long to get at the problem and fix it. That's a lot of hard work. Excellent effort. I love the way you two work together. I wanted to say that I think the that you found a quite lovely. They can easily be used in many different ways around the Chateau. I had seen you two on another Couples KZbin channel. I knew this was coming. So nice that you're making good friends around your home. That table that you got that was literally for the indoor toilet was amazing. It hasn't been used in many years but I'm sure you'll get it super clean. I'm going to show that part of the show to my husband. An interesting find. I like the card playing table as well you're going to retire in Tennessee as far as I know currently. And they know they have a lot of shopping there with Antiques and Such. I have a few that we mostly inherited. However, I do enjoy perusing the stores. I just need a place where my husband can go hunting and fishing close by. Your puppy seems to be enjoying life. Thank you for sharing again! God bless you and yours. Love, jenwhite 💜💜💕😊

Lovely as always. ❤ Ahhhhhh, shopping. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, you’re SO good at it! ❤ Wonderful how some very simple pieces can be so satisfying. Especially that little mystery hanging piece with the lions. No clue what it’s for, but absolutely adorable. ❤ And speaking of satisfying, digging trenches to move water. That must have been especially satisfying. I love doing that sort of thing. Mankind’s futile efforts to dominate water have been ongoing since the dawn of time. It’s a loosing battle, so we always savor those small victories. Well done. Big hugs to you both.❤❤

The ceramique wall mounted box is for holding twisted paper tapers for lighting fires and candles. The design and decoration is emblematic of antique designs from the pottery workshops of Rouen and are based on tin-glazed Majolica. The heraldic device is the provincial coat of arms of Upper and Lower Normandie. In fact, the same design as my avatar, used in honour of my home. We have several of these in our château in Calvados, where they are hung next to our fireplaces. The coat of arms is known in Normandie as "les p'tits chats" - 'the litte cats' and is attributed to William the Conqueror, Richard I and the 12th cent. arms of Anjou. You'll see the design presented as gules, two lions (actually leopards) passant on all heraldic devices in Normandy. The best way to eliminate blackberries is to eat them. Once the bush has stopped producing, cut it back, dig up to relocate the canes elsewhere in your grounds. Blackberries are a resource. I appreciate how fond you are of making jams, preserves and chutneys, but you can also make fortified wines, cordials and tissanes, or use the berries in desserts to flavour ice cream, cheesecake, cake, muffins and cookies. Best wishes from Caen. X

That's my advice. cultivate them. I grew up in washington state, and blackberries grow everywhere, wherever anything stops moving for a period of time. My grandfather got tired of fighting with them and trellised them. If you cut them back and train them, it reduces the blood sacrifice needed each year to harvest.@@patrickjourneytothechateau9452

My Oma had a little thing like that by her stove and she used to keep salt in it. Whether or not that was the original use for it I could not tell, and I can not ask as sadly she passed when I was 17 which is a long time ago now. I still miss her. Your water problem is so familiar. Every rainy season our dam, which is about 10 meters in front of our house doubles, sometimes trebles in size, overflowing into the surrounding paddocks. We literally need a little boat to float out of here sometimes!! However, over the past 5 years, my husband has begun a program of "works" as I call it, (on a very tight budget, as we are on a limited income) with his shovel and wheelbarrow and he has dug trenches all over the place. Keeps him busy at least. This year with all the rain, is the first time, that within two days, all the water had receded from where it had overflowed and while the ground was soggy, it was not two feet underwater. The trench system was declared an official success!!! And he too had issues with the dreaded blackberry. It seemed entrenched all over our property and Anthony has gradually rooted it all out. Which is a shame, as I rather like blackberries. Enjoy your week guys!

Finally managed to sit down and catch up on the happenings at the lovely and graceful colombe....and I nearly died thinking that colombe got flooded out 🤦‍♀️ oml 🤣🤣🤣. I'm so glad it was only in the driveway. But that pond! What a darling! ❤❤❤❤ and Emmaus has some many gorgeous antiques. And those 2 tables are gorgeous! Maybe that unknown draw...was where they kept the toilet paper or womens personal items of those days??? I would only assume these items because of the chamber pot cupboard 🤷‍♀️ As for that little holder (no it isn't for toothpicks 🤣🤣🤣 I can imagine people using it for toothpicks though 🤣🤣🤣 I will try to explain with the deepest hope that someone else has managed to tell you guys...because my explanation is going to be bad 🤣🤣🤣🤣) if I'm not mistaken its called a wall pocket. Now...if my memory serves me right ( which most times it doesnt, me and my memory are not friends most times but we'll give it a go 🤣) its a Victorian era thing 🤣🤣🤣. In Victorian times people wanted flowers every where so someone created wall pockets (wall vases)🤣 one side is flat so it sits against the wall nicely (obviously 🙄 🤣) and the other side is decorated with all sorts from flowers to decorative patterns and emblems or even as far as insects or animals and so on. They do range in various sizes. My grandmother had a collection very similar to the one you have and she use to put that green fuzzy foamy stuff for making flower arrangements 🤣 and shed cut small flowers and greenery and make tiny flower arrangements in them and then hang them on the wall. My grandmother loved them because she didn't have to try find flowers to fill huge vases and then try to find somewhere to put them. Considering her home wasn't huge so these wall pockets she loved immensely for those reasons. They truly are an amazing but uncomplicated design. Just simplicity at its finest. As my grandmother use to say they made her walls handsome 🤣🥰 wall pockets 🤣 so adorable 🥰🥰🥰🥰 (my explanation is terrible im so sorry but hopefully you get what I mean 😋😁❤) Love this vlog. Absolutely brilliant can't wait for tomorrow's vlog!!! Sorry I was so late too the party had alot to do and I also see that there is a chainsaw vlog. I'm going to watch that next 🥰🥰🥰🥰 can't wait to see what's happening on that one! Huge love to you both and colombe and the fur babies 🥰❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Hello. I hope you both are well. Watching you dig your trench reminded me of long ago when I was a farm hand. They used a method of watering crops called flood irrigating. When a field needed watering you would place a long pole with a large plastic tarpaulin, (a dam), covering it into the creek diverting the water into another smaller ditch. At the other end of the field you would place another dam in that ditch making sure the water could over the edge a little,, back into the creek. Then you would go up and down the ditch digging little trenches in the edge of the ditch so it would start flooding the area. It was very hot, wet, hard work and at the end of the day you knew you had done a good, honest day's work. I was 17 at the time and full of energy. That was 40 years ago. I sure could not do that now. I just thought I would share a little story with you. I have loved every minute of watching your vlogs. They are always entertaining. Take care, both of you.

A quick note, although I'm sure you know this anyway....antique/valuable/fragile plates should never have wire hangers put on them as they put stress on the plates and can often cause chips and cracks. There are adhesive disc hangers which are much better and can be used but these can sometimes become completely stuck to the back of the plate. So, only hang plates that you dont mind (too much) if they get damaged in this way. Thank you for such interesting vlogs!

I keep tea boxes where cigars used to be kept and tea strainers etc , special spoons in back drawer. Unique pieces can be used in unique ways to suit our fancy. Hi Gents, the little pot that goes on the wall could be for salt?? or for modern day it could hold business cards. The animal on the plate is a dragon, I think. A great way to get plates, cups, etc clean is to soak them in clothes washing powder for an hour (i.e persil/aerial), but you may want the lived in look. Love the mahogany table. The oak table could have a 'secret' drawer, to call it a nicer name. Ive mentioned this on other channels, but a natural way to get scratches out of furniture is to use the nut of a walnut, just keep rubbing it over the scratch and it disappears. Easy and natural and works on any colour of wood. I used one on an inlaid piece and it took the scratch out across all the different colours of wood. It really is worth a try

The little hanging pottery piece is a salt box. It was usually hanging next to the stove in most of the French kitchens. It is not for matches. It is most certainly “une faïence de Quimper”.

The little box is used in the kitchen. It was one of three boxes. In the kitchen they used sand, soap and soda for cleaning the pots and pans.

If you make it I will watch it. I totally get how it feels to go thirfting. You found some beautiful pieces. I've been at it for years collecting vintage Christmas and kitchen items. One would think this Oma would slow down but it's my kryptonite. Lol. Love and blessings to the both of you from a cold and wet GA.

You so deserved a emmaus after digging a trench. Love the white dishes with gold around the edge. You could collect a complete set, and then add to it with co-ordiinating designs. Love all that you bought except for the plate with the dragon on it. Yah another video added on per week!!!

Just found myself bobbing my head forward and back to the last 5 beats of the opening theme song! Classical thunder. Then I caught myself tilting my head from side to side during the brocante music. I love the plate with the fleur de lis and the coat of arms being eaten by a female Irish terrier or whatever that little beasty is. What are the markings on the back of that one, please?

I don’t know how I’ve missed the fact that there is an additional set of gates to your courtyard & that there is a pond on the property! I’ve not missed viewing and liking any videos so the obvious thing is that I must not have been paying complete attention.🫣 I wish the charity shops in the States was filled with similar treasures as there are in France. Would you guys agree they’re better in France? Hope your both doing well & feeling great! Hugs, Doc❤
