Hi Patrick and Stuart, The lesson I learned from doing many renovations is DO NOT do any demolition until ALL the materials for the job are in-house and on the site. It makes for fewer delays from start to finish of any restoration or renovation. Mark

Good morning Patrick & Stuart, loved those terracotta pots, and then filling them with bulbs, it will give a splendid show at the blooming stage for sure. The wood burning stove return is a must! When all other forms of fuel prices go through the roof, wood is the best reliance and apart from that it is a magnificent beautiful stove. I can understand why they raised the flooring, because of the stove. It will be a heavy object. A good suggestion is to order and wait for all deliveries, if they cannot supply you can always choose an alternative, and once you have all the materials, the installation will go fast. You have waited so long another couple of weeks won't really matter. It was a lovely video, keep warm take care. Kind regards.

Lovely as always. ❤ What? You’re not here to be cute?? Sorry, my dears, that ship has sailed! ❤ Perhaps it’s for the best that you’ll have to wait a little longer to start in the kitchen. It will have a chance to warm up a little before you need to move the wood burning stove. I’m just fascinated by your little mystery cubby. Perhaps I can sleep up there when I come to visit. You know you have too many rooms when you have one room (or in this case a tower) for planting flowers and another room for arranging flowers. Martha Stewart would be so jealous. The whole time you were planting those bulbs, I was imagining the laundry wench in there doing the wash. What an amazing life that must’ve been for the Lords and Ladies of the day. Glad your snow is melting. We still have well over a foot on the ground. More coming on Friday. 😳 Big hugs to you both. ❤❤

I am catching up! Yay. I remember being cute……. Those were the days. 😂. So true about moving the stove. Cold here this week at night. I think the kitchen boy slept up there. 😮. Poor guy. But you can return to the roots of country living as a servant (like us). We just have to figure our who the lord and ladies are. 😮😂😮 I have to admit that we have quite a few rooms…… and the washing tower must have been back breaking for the servants. Upper class was always the better place to be……. Hang in there with winter and all….. Love to you two from Colombe. ❤😊❤💋

I really like the old stove and it will look fabulous back where it belongs. Shocking to see what human beings had to live through. Life was rotten for poor people in those days. The surviving voices from the nineteenth century indicate that they knew what was being done to them. They knew that they were being used like cattle but they didn’t have the power to force change through. There were rare improvements only. Thank you for the video.

I did not know you had a moat. Interesting. That excursion up the ladder Into the small room was Interesting as well. Decades have passed since voices were heard up there no doubt. You're right about life being very different long ago. The workers did not live in luxury . I felt sad about that. Probably a bit of warmth from the chimney kept them warm , as they huddled together. In the summer they would have sweltered up there. Take care.

Hi Patrick and Stuart, I’m so happy you are putting your stove where it is meant to be. You are doing things historically correct which is what these magnificent chateau’s need and not 20th and 21st century kitchen styles. Your chimney/fireplace wall is magnificent and will be the focal point of your kitchen as it was meant to be. Sorry about the floors and delays. I hope they are the only delays you encounter during this renovation. The hidden space is interesting with those beautiful beams and exposed stone, but the reminder of how hard life was for many of our ancestors is another reason to respect the historical structures that document past centuries. Those little pots with the spring bulbs are adorable and will put a smile on your faces this spring. Can never have too many flowers! Stay well. xx

If you want to keep your bats, but not in the Château, then you'll need to build or purchase some bat boxes. You can attach them to the outside walls of the Château facing SE or SW or on free standing 20 foot high supports. Keep the bat boxes 50 ft. away from the forest canopy, but near to a water feature (pond, stream, bird bath). They do make a spray to attract bats to the new nests. Also, use peppermint oil and steel wool (to block openings) to discourage the bats from returning to the interior of the Château. Good luck with your bat resettlement. Love the bulbs, especially the feathery tulips. When you water the pots, also rotate the trays so the bulbs don't lean into the sun and grow straight. Sorry your kitchen makeover is being delayed again, but I trust your vision will eventually come to fruition. Keep soldiering onwards.

That space is very interesting. I would put a door on it and secure the openings to keep the bats out. It is very easy to make bat houses for somewhere for them to live. I adore these "show and tell" Wednesday vlogs! What a very strange cubby hole you found and finally explored! Yes, fill in the gaps a bit to keep the bats from gaining access. They can squeeze through the tinest spaces! I have bats from time to time in my log cabin here in Colorado and every once in a while, one will find its way into the house! Our bats are not protected but I always try to shoo them out! We put up two bat houses a few years ago and have not had on interior bat problem since then. Maybe you could find some bat houses as well as they are very handy creatures! I see them in the Summer evenings near dark and always can tell by their unusual wing flapping that they are bats! They gobble up so many bugs and really are helpful! As for the stove in the fireplace, full speed ahead! Love your kitchen remodel plan! Sorry for the delays on cabinets and flooring.....sigh! Maybe you could call Benoit who did the bespoke kitchen at Anna and Phillip's Chateau Honfleur as it turned out so beautiful.....just a thought! Cheers!

Great idea about the bat houses and we have so many outbuildings where they can sleep…. Benoit is too busy quand too expensive for us. We will do it our way and not lot someone else do most of the work. 😉😘🥰👍🏻

@@patcardiff2563 Oh m’y dear Pat. We are so sorry for your loss. Our condolences. Loosing a beloved pet, or as we call them, family members, is heartbreaking. The empty and quiet house is terrible. A constant reminder and I experienced that as if it was so loud in its quietness. So sorry she had to go through the ear pain and then kidney failure. There is nothing anyone can say that makes it better. I’ll light a candle for you both in our chapel. Sending you hugs and hoping that the thought of her being together with her sister over the rainbow bridge gives you a little comfort. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

I love the cooker! That looks expensive. According to the cookers I have seen on other chateaux blogs.

Hello darling. I am catching up. Hope all is well. Let’s hope the kitchen will be a s nice as we imagine it to be. We are committed to putting things back. Many people do not agree. Oh well. 😮. I am glad you like the long hair. I have my moments when I want it short again. Huge hugs from us at Colombe. ❤😊❤.

Ohhh, the original cooker is awsome😍! Does it need a Lot of restoration?
@JourneytotheChateau2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The old cooker has areas that are completely rusted through. As we mentioned and showed in our previous kitchen vlog, we will be putting a new cooker in the fireplace.

I love the cooker being in a fire surround. I absolutely agree that it is meant to be there. But I am concerned about the visual impact of cooker and the wood burner being together in that fire surround competing for the space. In old days the cooker and wood burner were one and the same. Nowadays they are different in purpose and style. Unless it is Aga Range cooker that provides the cooking facilities and the heating in one. But you should do whatever suits you best. ❤

Thanks! As we said in the vlog, we are only concerned about making it a working kitchen with lots of space for cooking and for heating. The "visual impact" is not important in a working kitchen as long as it provides what we need to get things done.
