As an older person just recently this year 2024 becoming a new member to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints . . . I must agree with Elder A. Bedner's comments. Since my Baptism on June 29, 2024, I have been experiencing the gradual learning process of the simple personal growth and improvements to my life with reference to certain guidance found in the Book of Mormon. I cannot emphasize enough the special influence and guidance that the Brothers and Sisters of my Tieton Drive Ward have been for me as I learn simply and naturally as Elder A. Bedner explains so well. I am so happy to have become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I feel Blessed by the Spirit of God and Jesus.

Back over 29 years ago I wrote elder bed at a letter. I spoke of doing “all the right things and still feeling like I am drowning”. He actually wrote back and basicly gave me the message to start recording our lives and then when ever possible go back and see the lords hands in your life journey. I took that council to heart but with 3 tiny autistic kids I could only hit record on my phone to capture it all. I created a KZbin channel and shared our journey as Latter-day Saints with a chronicle I’ll Mom and 4 special kids and an ADHD husband and STILL be believers. It has changed everything for me.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, so much for helping me to know that it is okay to not have perfect things to say, but just focus on how you live your life. I have several people in my family who have left the church, and the gospel means so much to me, but I have not felt to talk a lot about the gospel around them, but to focus on how I am living my own life and trying to live the best version of myself. But I have felt guilty in not proclaiming to them more, and have been hard on myself, telling myself I am ashamed of the gospel. But the truth is that I do not believe it would actually do good to proclaim the gospel to them that are angry with it. Watching this has made me feel so much better.

I like the "don't make it harder than it is". "Pull, not a push" "Proclaim, not Defend" "Just share what you do in a natural way". If I were to try to boil down his advice into one principle, it would be: - I can't force someone to accept the gospel, and.... - Be transparent: don't hide the spiritual parts of your life; be *open* about what you do and the joy you feel
@katherinem.4414Ай бұрын
I think that the Holy Spirit can put into our minds and hearts in a general sort of way, about maybe in what we can share about anything. I think he does that just to illustrate a principle. I have had that happen…I think just now, that truth in the scriptures came to my mind. Again, like he indicates, example is the best teacher. We all need to strive to be better. I almost ALWAYS like to share truths I have learned from leaders, like apply one to something. That happens to me a lot, too, when I read the Book of Mormon. I begin to see how the principles apply in real life situations, not only to those in the scriptures, but to us. I have been in classes where the teachers are very good at getting you to see things, and open the way for more inspiration. But short and sweet as possible is the best.

I have tried to be kind for a long time, but lately,I have been a bit too forthright….but instead of being outspoken, I can still be honest, but kind. I have tried to make things that way most of the time…like almost all of the time, but I got too overbearing last night about a critical issue, and possibly a few times lately. In this world of polar opposites, that’s kind of tricky to do, but I think it can be done. I can be honest, and still tell in a kind way…or like he says, just tell more about what we do in our lives, and I think how we cope in a general sort of way. And let people know that we are no better than they are, that we all have to work at it.

Thanks for your comment @fidelisattah5761 and for your questions. Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are Christian, and we believe the greatest happiness in life comes from following the Savior, Jesus Christ. We revere the Bible as the word of God and we believe the Book of Mormon to be another testament of Jesus Christ. You and others interested can learn more about our beliefs here: www.comeuntochrist.org/beliefs?cid=42001274 The Church teaches that God loves all of us, and that people who experience same-sex attraction or identify as gay, lesbian, or bisexual are welcome and needed in the Church, and should be treated with love and respect. We also believe that sexual relations between a man and woman who are not married or between people of the same sex violate the law of chastity, one of our Father in Heaven’s most important laws. People of any sexual orientation who violate the law of chastity can be reconciled with God through repentance. @churchofjesuschrist2 ай бұрын
Hi @Lazyofficial866, thanks for your question. Latter-day Saint scripture and teachings affirm that God loves all of His children and makes salvation available to all. The Book of Mormon teaches that all are alike unto God: "(The Lord) inviteth them all to come unto him and partake of his goodness; and he denieth none that come unto him, black and white, bond and free, male and female; and he remembereth the heathen; and all are alike unto God, both Jew and Gentile." (2 Nephi 26:33). Church leaders today unequivocally condemn all racism, past and present, in any form. The Church disavows the theories advanced in the past that black skin is a sign of divine disfavor or curse, or that it reflects unrighteous actions in a premortal life; that mixed-race marriages are a sin; or that blacks or people of any other race or ethnicity are inferior in any way to anyone else. Hi Daniel, I’m sorry it sounds like you didn’t have a great experience in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Members of the church are far from perfect, and I can understand if it seemed like there was no value gained at church or that others didn’t value you. I can testify that Jesus Christ always knows our infinite worth. And His restored Church was given authority (through prophets/apostles) to provide the ordinances we need to reach our divine potential. Yes, most of our learning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ should occur individually and in families at home, but we also need others to grow and progress.
