The day after the torrential rain brought by storm Babet. Video taken at Belper Mill, and Ambergate between 10am and 11am. The water level was starting to subside apparently

Imagine if we could store all this water for use during dry summers.

This river is expected to flood when heavy rain has done for thousands of years . We build on flood plains and next to rivers then moan a out flooding. Didn't you expect that.

Apparently not. I wonder what the qualification is to sit on a Planning Authority- oh I forgot none whatsoever! Well, you have to be elected but the. You spend much of your time getting expenses for running your car, postage stamps, computers at advantageous rates, parking in reserved spaces, making sure your electric car has a charge point next to it and checking the tea and biscuits are up to scratch. Now the planning well that is easy as you know the builders and their planning staff as you meet them on holiday in distant lands and they pay your bar bill. You are told a lot of things in a long lifetime and the planning system has been bent almost since it was devised,

We've seen the water as high as that before and had to walk the long way round to get home. The river gardens lived up to their name. Thanks for sharing.

...and the more we build the greater the surface runoff, and the less ground is open to absorb the water, and still we're surprised (because we havent upgraded the drainage in the last fifty years..

Regarding the footage shown between 3:17 and 3:48; it appears to be some kind of miniature railway. I used to live in the Belper area, many years ago, but I am not familiar with that particular location. Could anyone please supply me with details about it ? Many thanks in anticipation.

3:45 Is there a narrow gauge railway there? It looks like it, but I can't find anything on google about it.

0:10 I just looked at Google's Street View of this bridge (just a little west of Bridge Foot). Remarkable rise in river level.
