Also I promise Frodo isn't trying to hump the pillows, lol. That's what we initially thought too, but it's not the case. I'm not gonna explain what dog humping looks like but it isn't quite as aggressive and spread out, hahaha. It's purely because he wants to get comfy and will even do a little victory lap once he finally manages to knock a pillow off the couch before he snuggles up. 😂

I'm writing this when I should be in bed so forgive me if it isn't super "eloquent'.. haha. But I just wanted to say I started watching your videos last week and they have inspired me to take better care of myself and put some effort back into getting ready everyday. I used to wear vintage style clothing back when I worked full time and had to dress "nice" for work. Now I stay at home with my 1 year old and basically live in leggings and t shirts and got rid of all my cute dresses since I never wore them. But the other day I decided to curl my hair and do a little retro pin curl type thing with my bangs and actually put on makeup for two days in a row and I felt like a new woman. Thank you so much for helping me to be excited about getting ready again!

I feel you! I did the same thing when my daughter was younger. As a single mom who was working and going to school full time I just didn't have the time to. Now that I am back to taking care of myself and taking pride in how I look I am so much happier. In fact over the past few months I have been donating/giving away all my clothes that aren't just lazy, but aren't fitting with my vintage look. Now even if I'm feeling lazy I don't have the choice to not dress cute! Who cares if you're just going to run errands at Target and Costco, any time is a good time to get dolled up!

Hope you are still taking good care of yourself Kylie. Doing things for yourself - like your hair - when you're physically so done in (as it goes with small babes to care for) and when you are isolated at home - doing those things for yourself is very good therapy!! I hope you are still at it.

I've never tried that sort of roller, I tend to be a pincurl girl but I love your hair so I might steal your rollers! I've read in several places, though I don't know for absolute sure, that the placement of curls mostly around the perimeter of the hair served two purposes - it was a departure from full-head waves and shorter styles of the late 20s and early 30s, and secondly that you were really setting and styling your hair around your hat. So if you wanted to wear a tilted hat at the front of your head, you wouldn't necessarily want to do a lot of precise curling where the hat would be as it wouldn't be visible and it would make it harder to get the hat to sit how you want it. A lot of, and I think this got lost in translation with the neo retro movement, but a lot of late 30s and early 40s hats sit right on the back of the head and expose the bangs and the hair around the perimeter of the head. The fashion in the current and gorgeous vintage world is to saucily wear tilt hats and obviously there's a lot of real vintage precedent for that but somehow the crown hats you see in old catalogs, fashion ads and films have gone the way of the dodo for the more modern sense that all hats should be worn with attitude, which is super cute but it does make for a less diverse pool of personal style when it comes to head wear. I'm sure there are other reasons for setting hair that way, though!

Also, I never thought of just folding the wire part down. Usually I twist them at the top. The reason they wore their hair flat on the top was for placing their fancy hats, since hats were a big part of fashion back then.

Your hair is beautiful!! Love those curls and waves. Seeing her pics, my mom was so gorgeous in the 1940's. So was my dad! We have pics of him wearing his suits and Fedora hats. They both looked amazing. In elementary school, Mom rolled my hair on little rags that she tied and I have pics of my hair looking like yours when I was growing up. It is a distinctly feminine style and so beautiful. It makes me sad to see women today downplaying their looks, going out is slouchy, don't care clothes with their poor hair hanging like a mop. Bring back glamour!!

true, we shouldn't forget that it was pretty much their "duty" to be classy and beautiful at all times. Not saying doing this today is stupid or shallow, I actually quite like it and might try this style myself :) but there's no reason to bash women who don't put "much" effort into their appearance today, people just do what they want and if you don't appreciate being judged for your look, criticizing others for theirs isn't the smartest move.

Reminds me of the rag curls my grandma used to put in my hair. They were torn strips of sheets with no ravioli filling.

Okay but you used the song ‘What is a Youth’ for like a few seconds, and I thought I was the only one who knew of its existence. It is such a beautiful tune.
