I have spend quite some time listening to different reactions to Floor singing Adagio. The more I listen to it, it just cracks me open more and more. I have been sobbing my eyes out just now. Just seeing and feeling the music flow through her is beyond words. Can't stop crying. So grateful this beautiful human being is sharing her art with us. My goodness.

Adagio is an italian word, that means "Slowly". This is also used in music to define the pace of a music (a bit slow, between lento and andante) and also as a name of a piece of a sonate, concerto or symphony that is using that specific pace. The music from this song of Lara Fabian is a pop translation of an italian classic piece called "Albinoni's Adagio". It was written in 1958 by Remo Giazotto who was an admirer of Albinoni, a musician from the 17th/18th century. He claimed it was from him and give his music this name but there is consensus today that he most probably has composed it himself. The classic music piece is globally famous and was translated into a pop song for Lara. She wrote lyrics in english and italian for it and is the original performer. She kept the title Adagio and wrote a story with a double meaning: a woman that is awaiting to find her love / an artist that is awaiting the god of inspiration. This song has become a classic and has been covered by many : Shirley Bassey (!!), Dimash, Floor Jansen, Polina Gagarina, Giulia Falcone, Laura Bretan, … They made great covers but none of these match the storytelling amazing performance of Lara in this concert From Lara with Love. Her italian version is also amazing.

Stoked when I discovered Fabian's ingenious pop treatment of the piece. (She wrote both an English & Italian version.) She meant that much to people. My Mum (who's 80) was in tears when it was announced - and she lined up on the side of the road in the rain for hours in 1953 when the young Queen was crowned , just to get a glimpse of her in her carriage. But we celebrate her wonderful life - she had a wonderful sense of humour too with such a beaming smile that lit up the room. Only 2 days ago that smile was very apparent when she welcomed our new Prime minister and I think she might've been in a lot of pain. There will be no other like her. Rest in Eternal Peace Your Majesty. And take good care of yourselves as always 💜

Lara sings it better and that seems logical although Floor usually sings it better then the original artists. Floor gets really really close to Lara her performance though. Saying this and with all the respect for Lara because she is a fantastic singer, there is just no vocalist who is so versatile and sings on a level as Floor does. I don’t see Lara sing like the queen of metal or doing death growls. Operatic, belts, airy vocals sure. Also Floor her timing is always so on point with the difficult Nightwish songs that Tuomas mostly created. There are so many changes within his songs.
