Important: The video doesn't have audio in some parts due to copyrights, not sure who is doing this but will update later. Original comment: The cope is real (Mrs. Graves is still hot and i envy her husband). Edit: I forgot to include the scene at midnight which Mrs. Graves could have said something about Ashley to Andrew, but interrupted and being held at gun point by Ashley, Mrs. Graves must have had something such important that she needed to talk to Andrew alone that night. Also Mrs. and Mr Graves could have had a date night if it hadn't been for Ashley and Andrew invading their home (she bought meat and wine), can't really say this detail proves Mrs. Graves actually fancies her husband more than just a play thing or not, since she forced him into other kinky stuffs and pretty much any other thing, but maybe it's something in between.

I’m honestly curious about the father. His extreme constant-tiredness and lack of emotion doesn’t just seem to be a gag, but an indication of extreme depression even. He doesn’t even seem to be living, but in a constant state of mental and emotional fatigue and fog, only breaking out at extremely rare moments. It’s honestly… sad? Like, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s revealed that, in a similar sense to Andrew, the father is actually a lot more innocent than what things initially seem. Edit: Also, I need to point out, but when Andrew talks to him in the flashback memory on the balcony, the father immediately reassures Andrew that he’s not going to jump off when he says goodbye. The fact that the father’s FIRST THOUGHT is to reassure his son that he won’t kill himself seems to me that he WAS actually contemplating suicide at that moment. Mind you, this is also after the father supposedly got fired from his job, so there’s a chance that losing his job might’ve been the straw that broke the camel’s back for him. So, yeah. On top of being possibly clinically depressed, he might also have been genuinely suicidal on some level.

the chair in there bedroom and the third bed downstairs seem to imply the father is in a "open relationship" with the mother aka she gets to sleep around and he gets to just watch. so he feels literally worthless and depressed to the point he dosernt even try to be a father cause he feels like he isnt one. he just does what ever his wife wants without question even if it makes him misreable because she occasionally will act sweet with him "oh your too good for that job" its honestly another form of toxic relationship like there kids but in reverse a disloyal yet still hyper controlling and narc mom and a depressed dissascoiated husk of a father.

@@housewilma4904 I don’t think so. Ashley seem to have been completely ignored by the family. To the point where she had to eat dinner in her room while andrew ate with the family (as seen in Ashley's dream). We can also see this continuing kind of during their surprise visit, because the only one who doesn't get a proper chair at the dinner table is Ashley, who has to sit furthest away from the parents on a stepladder instead.

Especially when considering how she neglected Ashley as a kid, and all the... escapades she gets up to with her husband, it really looks like she can only see love as something that goes alongside sex.

Another thing I noted was that Ashley seems to be so neglected by the parents she decides to rebel just out of spite. For example, watching Hypergore Splatterbrain 2 just because she's not allowed to. That might've been one of the main cause of her being so desensitized to these things later on.

Andrew had to cook and take care of his younger sister, he wasn't just Ashley's brother he was father, mother and first romantic interest. It's no wonder that Ashlei hated her brother's girlfriends so much, it practically became a question of survival, without Andrew she had no one to talk to or take care of her, I imagine just Andrew at Julia's house, while Ashley had to be alone with a mother who did nothing but antagonize her.

I have the theory they are horny cuz they haven't had any chance to have an intimate relationship in their lives. Ashley just keeps patronizing Andrew because she's unable to have any other stable relationship perse, and he most likely have always been unable to get to that point with his girlfriends because of Ashley's harrassment towards them. Add that they're together all the time and it would've been quite hard for it to not end in incest.

Ashley is always expresing that she wants Andrew for herself since they were kids, I'm sure that would've include their teenage years when the attraction towards whatever starts showing and being understated. For people to assume that Mr. Graves is "lucky" I'm pretty sure him getting jiggy with his wife is probably the only thing the dude has going on for him to stay alive seeing how his situation is. The dude obviously contemplated suicide to the point that he unnecessarily reassured Andrew he wasn't going to jump off a balcony after losing his job when that wasn't even Andrew's concern to begin with. And being the guy who can't even get a CG during his own dialogue, the dude shows a high level of dissociation when communicating with his family which in turn could insinuate that he is self conscious and nervous. Seeing how his wife is, it's best to hypothesize that Mrs. Graves is the shot caller a.k.a. The "Man" of the family. She controls him as well as everything else that goes on around them. She made the choices and all he is her is a walking dildo and a person to scrounge money off of on the side. TLDR: Dude just gets laid but is really unlucky at everything else in his life.

You're messing things out. Those are 2 separate actions with no correlation to each other. 1) The mother gets notice of the quarantine and then has the bright idea of making an insurance scam. There the kids were alive and she knew that. But it's to take notice that the quarantine itself wasn't planned by the mom and was instead handled by that evil corporation. 2) Then the evil corporation takes notice of the sibling's deeds and makes a cover up with fire. There the mother has NO idea of what actually happened since the company was trying to just bury everything. It's the fire that makes her believe the children were death.

What nobody seems to be talking about when it comes to this story , is how smart Andrew actually is . He manages to make a plans very quickly and execute them quite well , he manages to escape a quarantined building which is guarded by policemen(I assume) armed with mellee weapons and firearms . He manages , while caring for an overgrown child , to evade the autorithes , avoids being killed by an assasin , and manages to murder their parents( technically Ashley did it ), leaving little to no trace of the crime that just took place . Also , he manages to get all the money from the credit card that their mom owned . Now that's impressive

She also did not express any jealousy over Andrew getting proper birthday parties and is coping by claiming she didn't care for brithday parties anyway. Wait a minute. We know demons are real in the game. It's possible Ashley became like that because of her birthday wish. She basically cursed themsleves without knowing it. Maybe the key to their redemption is another lemon muffin cake and a wish. This scene seems to imply that Ashley was not always the manipulative sociapathic murder gremlin like the mother claims. Did those horrifically violent movies have anything to do with her change? The comment on her friends seem to suggest she was osterized in school as well, that definately had a negative impact. Was she bullied in school? I agree with the assesment that Ashley became what she is because of a total lack of actual parenting. That part of Ashley still lingers as demonsted by the apple soda. The "G-goodbye, Ashley... I'm sorry..." is EXTREMELY damning. When I saw that I knew the parents would not get a good ending. Them leaving the apartment is fine by my books. I know if I was in the same situation my parents would try to leave as well... just so they can provide material support from the outside and try to extricate me using their connections. I don't know how to interpret the fact that the mother stammered and hesistated when saying that. Maybe she still had a little bit of a conscience left? She is still an unhatched tar soul, after all. 17:09 I think the things that tipped Andrew off to his mother being full of crap is the fact that they called her after she got the death certificate papers. Ain't no way she actually thinks they died to parasites. She does in fact think they died and were cremated, though, just alongside everyone else in the apartment and three months late.

Leyley at very young age (in the flashback scene which she and her bro locked Nina in the crate) knew that she was "weird and annoying and no one likes her at all", so she probably had a hard time at school if not bullying then she would be the outcast. There's a preview image on steam devlog that has some teenage girls talking about something but was not included in ep 2, so ep 3 can be about their school life and friends (imagine the siblings commit shool shooting💀).

@@Flopamineabout her “weird and annoying and nobody likes me” point. How much of is reliable? Since we didn’t see it and it’s her who saying it. Considering that she has abandonment issues and low self esteem maybe it’s what she thinks? Or maybe she just said it at that time to make Andy pick her side and she purposefully lying? Hopefully episode 3 will tell if Ashley was a weirdo or bullied or if it’s just in her head.

@@SnailSnail-lo4pmno actually, the reason why they became friends with her (especially nina) was because they liked her brother, not her. Its the usual, get-closer-to-the-sibling-to-get-closer-to-your-crush troupe, and ashley knew that. This was why she never cared for them, and wanted to get rid of them. The lack of parenting is the reason why she has no morals, and why she thought it was right to lock her up. In her eyes, her "friends" were trying to steal away her brother, the only person that actually cared for her. In the left door scene, there is a picture where she is with her "friends" and is shown to be an outcast, or someone they always kept out of the duo. They didn't want to bond with her, they wanted her brother. So she never really had any real friends. They are also shown to cancel out on her whenever she wants to invite them over. It honestly explains why she is so obsessed with andrew because he is her only brother, best friend, father and even a romantic interest at some point. She has massive abandonment and self-esteem issues which is why she is the way she is. I am not trying to defend her though, she is a really dark character with zero morals. @@Tsumiki-san In the burial route, it makes Andrew's decision seem more like an anti-villain than an evil person, because he decides to kill his sister (evil action) but to achieve a greater good, stop the demon and his sister. At the end of the day they are both evil in their own way, the sister actively with her manipulation and the brother passively following his sister's orders, as much as they are extremely questionable (murder, cannibalism, theft, etc...), if we include incest It is just another checklist, while the burial route is a 180-degree turn in the plot, the typical story with a happy ending, and also, eliminating the factual reasons, both mental and emotional. They are a brocon and a siscon respectively. They just kept up appearances as much as they could.

Good manipulators don't just lie all the time. They tell truths to when it's in their advantage to get you to trust them, and then weave in lies that you would now believe when they lure you in with bits of truth. No, I don't believe the mother would actually welcome Andrew back into their lives. It was a moment where she tried to get Andrew to free them, and then escape and get someone to finish the job. But I feel like the part where she apologises shows genuine remorse. She does this to Ashley in one of her phone calls, too, and clearly has some semblance of a conscience. So yeah, I do think she's actually regretful for her chaotic and dysfunctional parenting but I don't think she's a good parent, or trying to be one at all. She's likely only sorry because of how it led to her tied up in a basement at the mercy of them.

I think what makes the mother say 'goodbye' and 'im sorry' is more so when she feels a little guilty when she hears their voices and talking about their prolonged suffering in there. They probably also didn't expect that they'd live long enough to be able to call them, too. So the mother probably knows that Ashley is alive and really on the phone, but just doesn't want to confront and be reminded that she agreed to sell their organs.

Man it is a actually really sad... Andrew and Ashley, were both abandoned, as Andrew was forced to take care of Ashley, but Andrew was always the "wanted child" while Ashley was just "in the way" to her parents. But Andrew never actually tried to abandon Ashley, thus they grew codependant to eachother (which is why they both are into eachother). I mean obviously they have grown to always be together, and thus they could never separate. Ashley turned out to be a fck up and she dragged Andrew down the rabbit whole with her (as Andrew wouldn't neglect anything she does). While Andrew doesn't have the spine to oppose his sister (and actually doesn't want to leave her), they're both in a downwards spiral. (So long as Ashley doesn't want to stop).

In this case, the conversation would've been most likely about Mrs. Graves telling Andrew to ditch her sister and/or a talk about the incident of them and Nina. Mrs. Graves probably knows Andrew was manipulated into it and still trusts him very well. Remember that Mrs. Graves only called them both psychos because she was angry seeing Andrew working with his sister to tie them up into the basement and Andrew was showing himself to be trustworthy by helping his mother and made their dinner and food prior. I believe Mrs. Graves wanted to tell the information about Ashley that is yet to be disclosed in Episode III. There was probably something that Mrs. Graves feared about Ashley as a child. Whatever Mrs. Graves wanted to talk about Ashley with Andrew that night, it would probably be a "Lord Shen" childhood situation and there could be a reason why Mrs. Graves intentionally became negligent with Ashley. Since Mrs. Graves entrusted Andrew her new home address, she probably wanted to only see Andrew and not Ashley. Andrew also noticed that his mom has only been 'keeping up faces' meaning, she is most likely acting cold and strict since she saw them both together. I believe what Mrs. Graves was trying to say to Andrew was: "The whole situation with Ashley was my mistake. I apologize for having you take care of her. I know that incident at the warehouse was not your fault... she forced you into it, didn't she?"

Nice video. A possibility is that the mother is a lesser or as much of a yandere as Ashley (or at the very least, very possessive). That's why she didn't care too much about her children and seem to only love her husband very much, while also explaining why she is so good at manipulation (just like Ashley) and willing to sell her children for their organs (There's NO WAY a loving mother wouldn't look or at the very least try to help them). That's why she said to Andrew that she 'didn't hate them', which she probably didn't since she did raised them and some maternal instinct mixed in there, but she never said she really love them either (and downright hating Ashley). This also explain why she snap at Ashley cutting her husband and don't react as much when she got cut, even Ashley can tell her mother wanted to gouge her eyes out for harming her 'beloved'. Could probably explain why she got pregnant so young, too.

A small detail that might fly over most people's heads is that the new Graves household has one spare single bed and chair. When you look at Ashley's dream in the burial route, her plushie isn't able to sit at the table with the other two plushies. This might mean that the parents kept a spare bed around and a third chair as a sort of momento for Andrew, but absolutely nothing for Ashley.

One of my biggest questions for this game right now is what made Mrs. Graves detest Ashley so openly as she did. It can be theorized that this started very early in Ashley's childhood at 5 years old. What could a 5 year old do to make a mother no longer want to do anything with them despite having an older child who she actually does like, to some degree. There's no way Ashley was 5 when they murdered Nina. Andrew is at least 10 in that scene, he's far too knowledgeable about prison and consequences. That's why Mrs. Graves is so interesting to me, because she doesn't come off as entirely "Aloof." Their father is completely aloof, yet Mrs. Graves clearly knows more than she lets on. She picks up on subtleties and has a degree of cunning within her. She's not stupid. So why did she treat Ashley so harshly in her childhood, but not Andrew?

mrksimka1159's thread convinced me that the answer may be that Ashley inherited her mother's unhealthy jealousy, she saw her as competition for Mr. Graves' attention, since she was born she was jealous of her, she manipulated Andy from a young age to be the wall between Ashley and Mr. Graves.

When Mrs. Graves asks if Andrew and Ashley have been fooling around, the way she asks it clearly BEGS for Andrew to point the similarities between mother and daughter and how they like to tease and gaslight with dirty talk; Ashley definitely heard the conversation and acted the way she acted to gross her mother out. Yet, Andrew doesn't point the hypocrisy of his mother, nor does he compare his sister to their mother. Why? Because he worships Ashley and has a lot of pride in the fact that she survived a hostile domicile and went to become an adult woman thanks to his efforts. That's also why Andrew didn't lay his hands on Ashley until that point. Ashley, on the other hand, absolutely adores to be the center of attention, but the only person who doesn't neglect her (because he doesn't give a damn about how creepy she is) is her own older brother. She knows that he worships her, and enjoys it. But the thing is: 1- Andrew inherited his mother's insane libido and sadism. He's easily shook and initially had a normal relationship with Ashley, but thanks to their killing spree, he's been desensitized to murder, leaving his desire to cause harm to bloom freely, and due to Ashley's sexual innuendos and actual attractive appearance, his sexual appetite is slowly eating him up. 2- Ashley inherited her mother's lack of pudor and manipulative nature. She doesn't want to get into Andrew's pants per see, but she knows that this is an effective way to keep him for herself. Moreover, because she's so "whatever" for romance and sex herself, she won't ever pursuit another man, which only fuels Andrew's worship fantasies.

There's a little extra detail that I don't know if it was mentioned by anyone else. Ashley's sociopathic tendencies aside, one more piece of evidence of a lack of proper and healthy parenting is how Andrew and Ashley talk to each other as kids. And by that, I mean how much they cussed. If we do go off of their parents first raising them as teenagers, and their mother only been an early teen when she gave birth to Andrew, that's a clear sign that they weren't ready to be parents and their horniness was likely combined with cussing. It's not just that gorey movie they watched in that cutscene. I'm of Andrew and Ashley's generation (If the game takes place in current day, that is. There's no signs of current day technology like computers or mobile phones or stuff like that.), and what seems to be a constant about teens in media and in real life is how much cussing there is, regardless of where they got it from. Andrew tells Ashley to watch her mouth, only to cuss at her, himself. It'd be one thing if Ashley got the cussing from Andrew, but Andrew probably got it from his immature parents. People don't become dysfunctional, mentally ill, or even sane with some vulgarity to them since a very young age, without being raised in an unhealthy environment. That is all.

Honestly, having seen everything so far, both sides suck hard but when considering their circumstances, it's understandable WHY they are all such awful people. The Graves parents had to deal with young/teenage pregnancies and had to cope with the fact that they f-d up hard because they were young (It's not mentioned I think but I like to believe that they had to deal with all this stress and anxiety ALONE without any real external help considering how awful their world is in general). Of course, the argument could be made that the Mom and Dad screwed up twice but as is stated, they probably grew attached to Andrew with how easy it was to raise him thus far and were probably sure of themselves that if another one came, they could deal with it. Of course, now that Ashley came into the frame, it became much more dire for them. From what I could gather from the game and videos about it, Ashley may in part have always been a little off the rocker, but with how the Mom and Dad probably treated her (not giving her enough attention and reprimand when she was a kid, giving the job of raising a child over to A CHILD!), it's of course no wonder why Andrew and ESPECIALLY Ashley have turned out the way they did. Child neglect can turn anyone into a rotten being if left unattended (as is implied with Andrew after he had to take care of Ashley, meaning he had to grow up fast and never could be experience a real childhood because of it) or missattended in Ashleys case. And yes, the fact that they sold their kids out in the quarantine to get themselves a "clean slate" life with the insurance money is pretty horrible in itself Of course, this does not excuse what the siblings have done either, with them, especially Ashley, being rather unopposed to the idea of criminal behavior (Stealing, murder [even if in self defense], cannibalism, etc.), though to their merit, most of their crimes were either a result of just getting into danger without their own accord (the whole occult and cannibalism thing started out with a cultist f-ing up a ritual, the hitman that was inexplicably chasing them leading to his murder) or the world around them just being an awful place (The Quarantine being a HUGE example of this!). Yes, the murder of Andrews classmate was inexcusable and Ashley is a Monster for this... if you discount the fact that wasn't treated like the runt of the litter by her parents and having to be raised by her then CHILD BROTHER, who he himself didn't even understand whole concept of murder and couldn't possibly have taught Ashley the consequences of her actions, nor could he have predicted that she could even be capable of such an act (if indirectly). Ashley is horrible, yes, but she is the consequence of her parents' neglectful behavior and Andrews' (understandably) poor upbringing of her. And on Andrews part: He definitely suffered the most here since he was between neglectful and sex-crazed teenage parents who made some very bad life decisions and still TRIED to do the best before giving up, and a on the border of sociopathic behavior leaning sister who wasn't loved by those same parents and he tried to love and raise to the best of his abilities but ultimately couldn't do much alone to stop Ashleys' obsessive and criminal nature (even unintentionally exacerbated her behavior to some extent with her attachment issues, making her depend on Andrew for everything) and ended up suffering even harder because of her (Hell, he couldn't even hold any relationships without Ashley being involved somehow). All in all, both sides are at fault here in different circumstances (The parents not raising their kids properly, the siblings for their shared crimes and Ashley for her manipulative obsessive behavior), but they also have their reasons and understandable circumstances as to WHY they are so awful, though I'd say Andrew deserves it all the least considering he is actually the most normal and relatively "stable" person here (If very jaded and cynical). And on a final note: their world is complete ass and just dials their issues up to 11. I tell you, without the quarantine and the whole world being a capitalist dystopia, the siblings probably would have still turned out weird but definitely not into cannibalistic, sociopathic (and in some very icky cases incestiuos) bastards, and the parents could have found a way to turn their life around without having to sell their kids, even if it would involve adoption.

Andrew is not a stable person either, he wants to bang his own sister, and has shown indirect signs of obsession with her. Search up the "andrew sus compilation" which pretty much explains the kind of person he is. The only reason why he seems "sane" is because he just wants to uphold his social life, also considering that he has a few morals and that he really cares about what others think about him (like how he said he wants to die when his mother said "that"). Ashley simply doesn't have any morals, and its because of the parental neglect here. Also, andrew has shown signs of wanting to do things to ashley way before the mother pointed it out, but when she did, he kinda dropped his false appearance around ashley and became more "touchy". One example of his obsession could be when you switch over to andrew to check up on the cultists, you could go to the motel room and check the bed with two pillows where he admits he doesn't have nightmares as often as he claims, and he only claims so because he wants to sleep with ashley lol.

@@Terraqueo22 Come to think of it, Ashley was always treated this way long before Andrew's crush disappeared, in her youth she never ate at the same table as everyone else, she was sent to eat in her room, unlike Andy's birthdays, Ashley was not bought anything to celebrate it, therefore it did not generate the situation that Ashley invited her female friends and for the icing on the non-existent cake, not even the two of them were at home (just imagine the level of unhealthy jealousy that did not tolerate beyond the female presence of Ashley in the house), the functions of dad were fulfilled in its entirety by Andrew, which in the manipulative confession the mother is grateful that Andrew never questioned that task and also agreed that Andrew stayed at home but Ashley had to leave for tomorrow. It was HIS MOTHER who gave him the job, so it wouldn't surprise me if HIS MOTHER told Mr. Graves not to worry about Ashley's parenting, because Andrew was doing an excellent job taking care of her. It is by mere logic, there was not a moment where the mother became extremely violent as when Ashley pretended to hurt Mr. Graves, she didn't even get that way for her, what happened with Andrew's crush would have at least generated the need to take more care of the siblings, and rather nothing changed, Ashley continued to be ostracized and Andrew took care of 100% of his sister's upbringing.

The sad and interesting part of this fact is that it can be implied that their mother truly did love Andrew. I don't believe she was lying when she apologized to him about how she pushed Ashley onto him or when she admitted that she was so happy about how Andrew turned out that she was convinced to have another child so soon after. I wholeheartedly believe that if *only* Andrew returned, she actually might not have turned him away.

I really think she was trying to separate Andrew from Ashley in that moment when she was tied up, but it's simply so that Andrew would be blackmailed into freeing them only for them to escape. this theory paints a few scenes in the game in a different light, the fact that the mom tried to talk to andrew alone without ashley in the couch scene, telling andrew the address of the house, the house has 3 chairs in the dining room and a SINGLE person bed in the basement. Andrew thinks that the bed in the basement is an indicator of a decent social life of his parents but the extra chair at the dinner table could be seen as preparations the mother made incase Andrew came back home alone, they didnt have a 4th one cause they didnt expect ashley to come with him [or didnt want her i should say].

There is currently one theory I have seen which I think is the most plausible: Its that Andrew actually has split personality syndrome, one is Andrew and one is Andy. People have noticed that Andrew has these weak moments where he always tells his sister to go away but still listen to her. This might be the "Andy" that Ashley talked about who is more obedient. The future that involves Andrew kiling Ashley might actually be Andy finally snapping after being obdient for so long. This might be the personality that did not want to kill his parents and regretted it, hence explaining why Andrew suddenly has such a sydden shift in personality when the parents offered to help. The other one which Ashley is afraid of is "Andrew". This personality seems to be more calculating, less empathetic and cares more about getting Ashley under his submission. You can see this personality in a lot of cutscenes where he touches Ashley in a more personal way. This personality might also be the one that went red face when his mom said he fucked Ashley and when he had that dream. This personality clearly wants a relationship with Ashley. This might also be the one who had a relationship with Julia because noticed how he asked her to tie her hair up to look like his sister. This is the only reasonable explanation why Andrew's personality is so inconsistent a lot of times like a drastic 180 of his previous self. Some people say hes developing stockholm syndrome but I feel like the split personality makes way much more sense. People make Andrew as the victim but hes just basically as insane and as mentally ill as Ashley, he just hides it much better than her.
@whoknows5145
@whoknows5145 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t say it’s a split personality- DID develops as an early age as a result of severe trauma- but I do think the relationship between “Andrew” and “Andy” is a metaphor for letting go of the past. Andrew wants agency, and “Andy” was described by ashley as her doll, following along with her whims for the sake of being a good older brother. The way I see it, “Andrew” is indicative of the change he goes through, and his resistance he has to Ashley’s manipulation, and “Andy” is subservient to her; the two are at odds throughout the game, though I think of them more as contrasting thought processes than two separate people.

It doesn't really seems to be like that. Rather symbolic change for him to grow some spine. I don't have a good example, but for me Dart Vader/Anakin is a closest one. It's not split personality, but rather facets of one person. Maybe Vader says that Anakin is dead, yet he is basically a same person, who just can't show his "Good" side due to hate for himself and pain from his past. Said side then returns, thanks to his son being tortured by Vader's teacher. Something similar with Andrew/Andy. Most of his life he was for Ashley, even in his own dream he was "errand boy" for Leyley and can't do anything with it. He sees this spinelessness and lack of will in his father, a quality he hates in them both. But unlike his father, he tries to fix that by becoming better, which can be metaphorically interpret as becoming a new person. Also I want to note that maybe Andrew's love for poetry is a reason, why he is persistant about it. I do think that the only difference between these 2 facets is being able to stand for his personal interests against Ashley, who used and threatened him. But regardless of any facet being present, both are caring for Ashley in its base

I think this game is fantastic on portraying the side effects made by the people around you, and in spite of everything, it gives a lot to think about. I don’t feel like making a long comment, so I just think of a moral of the story. Andrew and Ashley are mostly the way they are because of the selfishness of their parents. If you are a parent, love your children. If you feel like you can’t love them, remember that you have a responsibility. It’s a must that you learn to love them. Ask for the right people to help you with this! Remember that you don’t need to be a perfect parent, as long as you try! If you’re thinking of being a parent, take into account if it’s something you can do it. If it isn’t, maybe you want to postpone the idea until things get better. This is for everyone’s sake. If you don’t care of all of this, well, you can do whatever you want! In fact, everyone is free to do whatever they want. But remember. These actions will come back to you eventually, just like Andrew and Ashley did at the end of the game. It may sound like this game is a bit overdramatizing. I don’t think so. This is something that could happen for real. And surely it happened once. To end in positive note, always remember to treat well the people around you, either if you’re a parent or a son or daughter, and these good actions will eventually reflect on the others! :)

A lot of people genuinely think Mrs.Graves didn't know she was signing her children's deaths with that insurance scam. While I do think that is copium, I think there is more going on with her attempts to appeal to Andrew other than just manipulating her way out of being killed. A lot of this hinges on the unspoken conversation she wanted to have with Andrew in private BEFORE Ashley pulled the gun on her. This goes back to her treatment of Andrew over Ashley. Andrew was obviously the favored child and this is spoken of far more in subtext than just what is shown in the CGs. Great example, Andrew is 22 and his parents have been PAYING for him to go to college and for his admittedly expensive textbooks, Ashley is 20 and yet there is no mention of her attending or even being offered the opportunity to attend college. Considering the parent's teenage pregnancy, its very doubtful they ever managed to attend or graduate college themselves, so the fact they even attempted to get Andrew through it speaks volumes to how much more they valued him over his sister. Beyond being the favored child, I think Andrew was the only child actually loved by his parents. When I say "his parents" though, I really just mean Mrs.Graves since Mr.Graves doesn't do jackshit. The reason I think Mrs.Graves abandoned him with Ashley though is because she acknowledged that as Ashley's sole caregiver, Andrew would never willingly walk away from her with them if she offered him a chance to get in on the insurance scam. This is why I think she wanted to talk with him before getting pulled into the basement by Ashley. I think she genuinely feels guilty about putting him in this situation where he's had no choice but to emotionally attach himself to Ashley because she never gave him any option to do anything else. If she hadn't done that, its entirely possible she could have walked away with only the parts of the family she actually cared about, instead of having to abandon him with the unwanted child. This is partly why I think her apology is genuine. She's just not apologizing for the reason you think she is. She's not apologizing for outsourcing raising Ashley onto someone else. She's apologizing that it had to be him and that damned him in the present by association. Note this still makes her a terrible person and an AWFUL parent as well.

For example there's one during the cooking scene (at least before the whole sacrifice thing) where Andrew has his hand on her ass and fingers in the beltloop, like litteraly, not something 'normal', Also he, supposedly, fakes nightmare, to have her console him by letting him sleep with her. Goodness, so if Andrew took care of 5-year-old Ashley at 7 years of age and Ashley asked Andrew "how come you get your friends over for your birthdays but when it's my birthday we don't have money" you can definitely see that Ashley saw that she wasn't liked or wanted as much as Andrew. The very fact that Andrew's name in the Ep 3 preview is "Disappointment" meant that they had some sort of good expectations for him. Meanwhile Ashley is just named "Mistake" because she was harder to raise as a toddler and they neglected her later in her adolescents for it causing her to get worse and then the cycle continues. Ashley clung onto Andrew from a very young age because he's literally the only thing that gave her love as a child, her desperation to keep that love spiraled into incest(which mind you, if Andrew wasn't messed up himself he would not and should not have accepted her advances, I don't understand Andrew enough to get why he does so I won't comment on it). This is why she's so worried about her appearance, this is why she's so insecure and clingy.

Actually I think the portrait riddle is both a part of their memories and how they perceived there environment. If you read the signs below the portraits their titles are: Parents, Siblings, Friends and Classmates. On the Parents portrait you can see how the mother is annoyed about her children. I assume that Ashley and maybe Andrew too, had the feeling that they weren't important in the family at all. Classmates seems to be a memory of their school days. I'm not really sure about the meaning but I assume it represents as something like "safe space" from all the toxicity at home, as we can see that they are bit more happy there. "Friends" portrays Andrew's connections with others but it also shows how Ashley was unsatisfied or maybe even angry about how she had to act nice to them. Plus, we see that she definetly knew that the "friend" had a crush on Andy as she blushes in that portrait. Siblings represents Ashley's and Andrew's love to each other, but here still as platonic (probably) and nothing that extreme. However! If you alter the portraits via the Andrew doll, the titles change too. "Classmates" becomes to "Soulmates", "Parents" becomes to "Family" and "Friends" becomes to "Lovers". "Family" is probably the most messed up thing here, as Ashley sees her brother as her true parents. Meaning, Andrew is both a "real" mother and father to her in the same time. That she sees herself as a very happy new born child, just reinforce this theory. In short: she brainwashed them, so that they become the only focus to each other and are also the only ones who care to each other. This is also the reason why we have the incest scene, why Ashley becomes more empathic and worried to Andrew and even accepts to not call him Andy anymore, and also the reason why they become less toxic to each other and why Andrew acts now even more caring and loving to her than before. It's in a way kinda ironic. You did something toxic to turn them less toxic. XD I also disagree that the parents are lovers. I see it more like that the mother considers her family more like pets. And her husband is more or less her favourite pet. Sure there is the wine and steak but I don't think that this alone is a guarantee for their love. If that would be the case and the father is just a simple masochist who enjoys his fetish while they have sex, then why considered he suicide in the memory of Andrew's blood oath memory. Plus the narrator itself said that he had "the enthusiasm of a dead fish". This is NOT the behaviour of a sane, normal person. He is broken. Now you could say "but if he isn't a masochist who just the sex but a broken man, why should he be worried about her? And why should she be worried about him?". Well, that is simple: it is BECAUSE his broken personality and submissivness , that he turned to an obedient slave of her and so, still had feelings like worryness towards her. He is similar like a dog who was trained that way to listen to everything what its mistress says. The mother on the other hand, considers him more like a loyal, cute pet. Imagine her attachment to him similar like John Wick's attachment to his dog. That's the answer. Yeah, there are attemps where the father tries to solve the conflict peacefully but in the end he still shut is mouth when his wife told so. Plus, you don't have to forget that the mother doesn't comprehend the emotion of love. She just knows sex and desire but that's it. While I can't say this for sure, I believe that she just get together with Andrew's father because she saw a chance to live out her sadistic dark desires on him. And as the father was probably at that point in love with her, it became even more easy. However, like I said, this is just a theory. To conclude this: I don't think that the family was ever healthy. The mother was just too fucked up and ruined everyone. She broke her husband, made Ashley even worse as treated her like an outcast and probably even manipulated Andrew so that he would willingly execute all her responsibilities as a mother. I mean, hell, even in the dialogue between her and Andrew about Ashley, she tried to manipulate him so that he would care about all the troublemakers in her job instead of her, had he accept the job offer! I think honestly, that she is even worse than Ashley. Ashley at least knows the concept of love even if she express it in an unhealthy, toxic way. The mother on the other hand, just knows sex and that's it. Platonic love, empathy and caring are beyond her comprehension. Otherwise she wouldn't have instantly accused Andrew to fuck his sister. Anyway that's my interpretation. PS : sorry for the novel comment. XD

It really says a lot about the mom's mentality of love and loyalty that her first assumption of why Andrew was going along with Ashley's ideas is that he was screwing her. Instead of maybe that Ashley was the most constant presence in his life, unlike the parents. Or that like it or not, they're too attached at the hip to think of abandoning one another. Or maybe he's realized he's just as deranged or too far down the rabbit hole and now sees no point in trying to fit in with the rest of the family. Or MAYBE that he can see she's full of crap after she tried to explain away the fact that she literally sold them for parts. Andrew isn't stupid and she should've factored that in. But no, she believes that sex needs to be used to gain someone's loyalty.

I think it would be pretty cool if once nemlei finished all chapters of this game, a dlc where you side with your parents as andrew would be very intriguing

Now that I see it, maybe that happens since the basement looks like it has an extra bed to be a guest room, In a house that size almost no developer would think that a guest room is necessary so I suppose it is a way to prepare the house for another use

I mean if you choose to side with the parents it just leads to Andrew decay route. And the extra bed is explained as friends staying over/something kinky.

@@nshadow9629 I meant you literally take the Revolver off ashley, lol. This might seem to cut off from here, but iam just really curious what would happen if andrew were against sacrificing parents through them talking it out on andrew, Ashley's fear. I could see some potential of some interesting twist out of this fit for a dlc.

@@layonyatsu7203 ahh I see. Even then I don't think there'd be much. Ashley gets subdued or even killed, parents get freed, they escape and either call the cops or a hitman to finish the job. But that's me assuming that the parents really don't care about Andrew. If they did then yeah, there would be room for a sideplot

It's so wild to me that people can play/watch this game and still come out of it thinking "damn, Ashley put her parents & Andrew through so much shit, they're clearly not bad people!"

I am wondering what is nemlei's relationship with his family since the dad is a doormat or nonexistent in this, divilethion and no good noelle, and in them the mother is the main toxic figure. But in better half it's an abusive father, and in candy scabs it's a genderless god that is still compared to a parent.

Their characters are disturbingly natural, too. It's hard creating characters this lifelike without experience.

I would like to know what Mrs Graves wanted to say to Andrew when supposedly everyone was sleeping, maybe it was the main reason why the mother wanted them to sleep in separated room (so that she coukd speak to Andrew alone), this conversation could have changed the whole story. This is the only reason why maybe choosing the mother when the parents where tied up would have been a better option
