Ranking Capcom's most valuable franchises!

PLEASE READ: It's made pretty clear at the start, but in case you missed it; this is not a tierlist ranking the abject quality of a given game series, but much more to do with it's value as a "FRANCHISE" to Capcom; where it fits in with their current direction/the gaming climate, or the potential to be brought back. 1942 is a great shoot 'em up series, but I do not see Capcom doing anything with it in the future at all, and Shoot 'Em Ups don't have the mainstream appeal they once did. Whereas beat 'em ups are currently going through a renaissance, and FF's characters are always being re-introduced through Street Fighter, thus, the higher placement. If you really like a certain franchise here, great! But this list is not ranking QUALITY, but rather it's value as a brand/IP in 2024. I LOVE zack and wiki, and think it's really charming, but that doesn't blind me from the fact that Capcom shouldn't really hedge ANY bets on resurrecting it at all. Hope that clears things up. I think it would be interesting to do this “tier list” idea for Konami, mainly which franchises could Konami bring back with new games that would bring in the money. Again, not which games are the best, but which games would bring Konami back into the good graces of gamers.

Ghost Trick was one of the best games I played last year, having played the remastered version on the Switch. It has so much to love about it: an intriguing and suspense-filled story, neat puzzles, memorable and likable characters, a great art style, and a cool soundtrack. I am happy that Capcom had enough faith in Ghost Trick to release it on modern consoles, and I hope they revisit the Ghost Trick universe in some fashion. If you guys have never played Ghost Trick, I highly recommend you do so on your platform of choice and see why it remains one of Capcom's most beloved games. If you have already experienced Ghost Trick, play it again for old times' sake. You'll be glad you did!

Unfortunately, Lynn may have been created by Capcom, they are not allowed to use her without consulting Fox. Capcom tried twice to bring her back in Canon Spike and Capcom vs SNK2, and both times, it was suppose to be Lynn, but negotiations with Fox would never get anywhere.

Gun.Smoke is a spin-off. *Giga Wing: has three titles, Giga Wing, Giga Wing 2 and Giga Wing Generations. *Higemaru: has two titles, Pirate Ship Higemaru and Higemaru Makaijima. I filled out that recent Capcom survey just to LITERALLY give them a way to bring Rival Schools back. They should make a sequel that takes place when the students are now parents of the new generation of high schoolers, that way we can play as both old and new characters. Hell, just release them and call it "Rival Schools: Class Reunion". I will die this hill that Rival School could be Capcom's version of the Persona series if they just let it.

Sengoku Basara, despite of how fun and somehow deeper gameplay than Samurai Warriors in comparison, lives on with its merchandizing/other multimedia that's not game. You'd see Date Masamune is still featured on Capcom anniversary stuffs like those promotional/colabs/celebratory images and Sengoku Basara itself won that recent Capcom Town popularity votes over Breath of Fire. I'd say its revival would be more well received than franchise like Power Stone, Dead Rising, Lost Planet, and hell Dino Crisis at this point, especially with a competent english translation.

A cute, Touhou/Parodius-ish side game could probably have more mainstream appeal while at the same time combining the extant appeal of the 19XX games with a broader crossover roster. I think the problem to get it a game that looks as great as the old stuff but be successful now is a puzzle that can be solved with the right people. Maybe one day we’ll get it.

Another great video. I would love an Onimusha 2 HD remaster. I loved that game on PS2. Sadly games such as those with the pre-rendered backgrounds are not really good in emulation so no way to properly play it other than original PS2 hardware on a CRT.

Megaman's obviously my first choice, but after that, a Gargoyles/Demon's Quest game would be up there. Either 2D or 3D, borrow heavily from the Souls-like design but keep at least limited flying mechanics and multiple forms/breath weapons, include some Metroidvania (sorry, search action) elements from Demon's Crest, and it could be amazing. The dark fantasy setting it's based around is still really popular right now.

The main issue with bringing Darkstalkers back is its animation. They would never bring it back in 2D because it's too expensive but to bring it back in 3D and have it not look like shit would also be too expensive. I don't think it being old is that much of a concern given how successful SamSho was. I think it would also have a nice place in the market since it was already 1/2 Street Fighter, 1/2 anime which is kind of a void filled by GranBlue and pretty much nothing else.

The Lost Planet spinoff game is E.X. Troopers. It actually got a complete fan translation about a year and a half ago for both the PS3 and 3DS versions. I was so happy to finally be able to play it. Really enjoyed it a lot!!

The first Dead Rising is a masterpiece in almost all its aspects. They gave the zombies and atmosphere a real creep factor and most of the humor was left to your weapons/apparel of choice. DR2 was a fun and beefy sequel, but also had noticeable downgrades in some areas and I feel like that over the top direction has overstayed its welcome. I'd really like them to go back to the original as the blueprint for a reboot.

When I first played the games I immediately fell in love with the story, characters (Gumshoe my beloved), music, and just the world. It’s also a series that I play on cloudy days. Honestly, as someone who has been with Ace Attorney since its inception in the west, I'd argue that, no, we're absolutely doing better now than in the "DS glory days". People romanticize those years too much, in my opinion. Objectively speaking, the games are selling FAR better, there are more people playing the games due to them being more widely available, etc. THIS is Ace Attorney's golden era, if we're being real. The series has never been in a better spot, financially.

The one disagreement with this list I have is concerning Sengoku Basara. I've played 3 of the games (I even 100% Sengoku Basara 3), and I still forgot it was a Capcom franchise. It MIGHT be "Fine" in Japan, but it's in "Danger" everywhere else in the world where it's mostly known for the anime.

So, I think the reason for releasing on the Dreamcast for at least Rival Schools and Power Stone was the potential to utilize the online servers for the console which released in 1998. Online services were never offered on PS2 until around 2001/2002, and the X-Box was not released until 2001. It looked like Sega was going to get into the market for this capability, but the system could not compete with the other brands.

I know it doesn't mean anything, but it just felt so good to hear someone with a platform do my Onimusha/Souls rant. I don't want them to be soulslikes. I want them to remain the weird melee survival horror games they once were. But its nuts that Capcom let Sekiro, Ghost, Nioh, Black Myth, Wo Lang, and now Rise of the Ronin all eat up the "tough eastern fantasy samurai action game" genre when they had the biggest I.P. in that space for YEARS. Even if you lazily plopped out a Dark Souls clone but you hold B/Circle to collect the souls, at least theyd be doing SOMETHING with the I.P. I refuse to let the poor sales of the completely unmarketed, instantly forgotten by capcom, port of Oni 1 be a valid excuse to drop the franchise. They didn't even try. On the subreddit associated with THIS CHANNEL i still see people not know there was a port of 1. How can they fail that completely?

Capcom’s next versus game (if they are unable to get an outside party like Marvel or SNK) should be Darkstalkers vs Street Fighter. We get an old franchise back, Capcom pumps money into it cause SF is also a part of it AND it’s a versus game, and if developers put all the love and attention that they have done already with SF6: everyone wins (hopefully!) Just two smaller franchises so they can start slow but if it got enough recognition and profit, it could blow up beyond the Capcom properties with future releases

I find it funny, that a spiritual successor that is consdiered to Capcom's Everblue is Endless Ocean, which they just released a new one called Endless Ocean Luminous exist, when Megaman/X/Onimusha and more doesn't....Hmmm Mighty Number 9 what is that? It doesn't exist. Also the most recent Dynasty Warrior style game was P5 Striker and One Piece Pirate Warrios 4 in 2020, but OPPW4, is still currently releasing DLC characters in 2024.

Okami is currently getting the Darkstalkers treatment: a small number of unique games at the start of its life, and nothing but re-releases/ports since. Okami even has the distinction of being released on four consecutive console generations (PS2, PS3, PS4, and Switch), which I'm not sure if any other game has accomplished yet.

Great video and picks, dude! Armored Warriors/ Cyberbots would be nice to return, you always gotta love mechs. I would love to see Armored Warriors get another go, really push the swappable weapons and boss mode combiner mode stuff. You could get pretty creative especially with modern hardware. I'm fine with a new Darkstalkers being a smaller budget, but full of passion AA game. Keep it stylized and cartoony, don't chase realism, let Capcom try a new, but measured entry, show that people dig it and let new people fall in love with it. It really doesn't need to be the same budget as SF6, it really doesn't need to chase that, Capcom would be nervous and play things a bit safe with that much money on the line, I fear. They'd be a bit more flexible with mid budget and wouldn't do their usual extreme Capcom test...at least I hope so. I'm an (obsessive) Captain Commando fan & I feel that between super heroes & Toku heroes always being in style, it deserves another shot. I loved what Battle Circuit did mechanically with all the move upgrades, and think it could definitely borrow or get inspired by that. Having fun, wacky, sci-fi settings, characters and having that reflected in the game would be a fun thing. Go nuts, have stylish, over the top combat, do fun things with multiplayer, have humour and take inspiration from the manga! People love Cap! He was fun in MvC and had so much charm in Project X Zone and Namco x Capcom. Poor guy's got more love in crossover games, how did he only have 1 game ever?! Hell yeah on Red Earth. I would love another look into this world (also, I love watching that intro). Do something with it now that a wider audience knows about it, like you said, making it available with the Beat 'em Up bundle opened up tons of people to this. We've been seeing a fantasy resurgence in tv, games, and hell DnD, so having a barbarian king with a lion head Piledriving a dinosaur, while a witch blasts an Egyptian chimera into dust will find an audience.

I know it's more of a Suda51 game, but a faithful follow-up to Killer7 would really cool and yea Capcom vs Capcom fighting game could be like their own Smash-like IP showcase game and Asura's Wrath is a special lil guy too, right?

Close, but not really. Again, Capcom bungled that release with terrible DLC practices and it was a giant sales failure in Japan and the West. The fact that Asura never showed up in a versus game, shows how much they value the IP, I think.
