Thank you Phil. It’s wonderful how Peeters integrates the classic Lutheran hymns in his 20th century harmonic language. We have to give him the nick name “The Belgian Lehenbauer!”

I had not previously heard Flor Peeters' setting of this beautiful hymn. In English hymnals the tune is often named 'St. Elisabeth' or 'Crusader's Hymn'. There is also a particularly beautiful setting called 'Fairest Lord Jesus -Prelude-Pastorale on a XII Century Melody' by Garth Edmundson [1900-1971] which I am sure you would like. Interestingly the same melody is used for the hymntune 'Ascalon' which is given much stronger treatment for words such as 'My Heart and Voice I raise'. Gordon Young used it in the powerful and majestic 'Christus' which is the final piece of his 'Scenes from the Holy Grail', although he does not acknowledge the melody.

Thanks for the information and the pieces! The melody is pretty simple, but that makes it nice to work around it.
