What do you guys think the lyrics are about? Do you think it is knowing that you are holding someone back from their potential. However, love is selfish and so are we. We are willing to keep this person to ourselves because of the happiness and ecstacy they give us even if it means sacrificing their growth and success. We know what they could become if we set them free. But this knowing remains fantasy as you never will. This ultimately begs the question of whether you really love the person (who lives you) because if you love someone then you'll set them free. Furthermore, the person who's potential is in question will never realise they are being held back because love is blind. Both are happy but only one is aware of the hidden fact that their relationship is toxic. They choose to "keep it in the attic". I would love to know if you guys agree or disagree as well as what your views are. Such a beautiful song with amazing and thoyghful lyrics. True art.

It might be about a person who isn't sure about their own feelings (or even knows they are not the same) but is affirmed by their partner again and again that they love them. They cherish their partner, since they are so loved by them, and it the relationship is still going harmoniously "you are good for me", but internally there is a rift. They do not feel the same extend of love, and feel overwhelmed and guilty, since there is no other reason it shouldn't work out except their own emotional inferiority and hide those feelings ("dont even know what you do to me")

Flora Cash truly writes poetry and I wonder if one's initial state of mind plays a role in one's interpretation of the lyrics. Take as an example, my interpretation is more cynical than yours and I admit to having a bit of an off day, the first time I listened to this song. Anyway, that's the magic of good poetry I guess.

@D S I think the lyrics are either about: Not feeling good and worthy enough for the love of another person due to a lack of self-love and/or inner woundings of heart and soul. "as a matter of fact i wish i knew i’m good enough for your love" "every - one lies to me" If someone does not love himself or herself due to insecurities, due to a lack of connection to nature and the universial love, or due to inner woundings like experiencing emotional abandonment, betrayal or abuse, he or she might not feel worthy of love. But you are, yes you are worthy of love, embrace yourself, care for yourself, be gentle with yourself, love yourself, and others will love you as well!

They probably do not feel worthy of their love. The fact they wouldn't lie to them like everyone else. Sometimes it is hard to realize someone could possibly be that true to you because of how you see yourself. Reluctant to leave because it is hard to grow and you are better for having them and they help you every step. Even when it hurts but they are there for you. That kind of love is really hard to believe in nowadays as we come together out of convenience instead of love. Or selfish gain. This sounds like a true love and that can be scary and make you want to run away.
