Definitely a wonderful build! Wish tiny homes weren't continually rising to the price of normal houses though. Seems like minimal living is becoming attainable only if you have maximum funds/income

That's definitely the trend, but it's doable more frugally if you're patient, strategic, and resourceful! (Or I suppose at least any two of the three haha, I wouldn't describe myself as patient 😂) For my part, carlife originally chose me years ago, so that taught me a lot about creative small space setup, and my current truck and my next step (a trailer) are upgrades. That kind of experience really tune's one's perspective on what's necessary, and homelessness isn't required, one can just go camping for increasingly long trips to get a feel and do some experiments. Between working a bit and now returning to school, I've been able to repair my credit a little and start putting a bit of my student loans into housing upgrades, so next semester I'll be financing a used box trailer and building it out with salvaged materials into a custom design to suit me for the next few years of school. Then I'll slowly build a small home in the mountains outside Denver; I already almost own my land outright, because if you can go out a couple of hours, things get quite affordable. A lot of compromises work for me that wouldn't work for others (like how I don't and won't have human kids, for example) but that's true of any lifestyle change or movement to tiny house life whether one has abundant means or not. And I don't mean to say "If I can do it, anyone can", because that's not true, I've been very privileged and had lots of help and learned much of my relevant skills through years of suffering lol, nobody should have to trade years of life to figure out ways to make a comfortable home without spending much money. But I'd argue that frugal, creative, lateral-thinking ways out of the housing crisis/into tiny life are doable for most people in most cases.

Yep, a lot of irony in the whole situation with the tiny house movement at the moment, it seems. Of course big industry is trying to devour any chance for people to break free from having to pay them just to have a right to live somewhere. And most of them are completely missing the point of tryin to be conscious and Eco caring.

I mean... The kitchen is basically the home's 'engine.' It makes sense to invest the most into the space that does the most work (people might do more work in an office, but that isn't the home doing work)

Wonderful.... back to what tiny houses were like at the beginning.... individual homes respecting the environment by using reclaimed materials as well as new structures. Love it! It's a home not something knocked out in a factory!
@eckoart.erin.jerome

I have been thinking about how it seems like all tiny homes now are $85,000 and up and about how all of them seem to be like filled with "mainstream" corporate materials which are still almost entirely bad for the environment, and about how that's not what the purpose was when people started the 'tiny house movement'. It's like it was started out of need by somewhat conscious people and seems to have turned into ultra trendy rich people only toys that are actually the opposite ideal from the origin of them. Sure anyone can build one, but if they all look like Walmart and Home Depot trying to fit in with multimillion dollar mansions... Some of the point of the whole movement is almost being mocked by people who just wanna have fun (which is fine) but they don't care so much about the environment. Now they all look like fancy trailers. This one is unique looking. I'm glad to see that it seems you have noticed similar things.

Well, it sure is very tiny, so there will be limitations on what you can keep in terms of food, clothes and other things. I think the ladder that's attached to the wall is for climbing up to the loft (he just doesn't use it), and I guess if you are willing to sacrifice the plants, you could use that space for cookware, food and other stuff. I love the design and I can see it working, but of course it's not for everyone

Any building is work. Older ones are much better made, but also different work than new. My house had a coal system. Now has a boiler. Like the Shining, you kind of need to know SOMETHING about them, although what King went on about in the book made 0 sense. Multi-million dollar hotel and a very old boiler system without BASIC .50 safety features, like vents and shut-off valves...?? Makes NO sense. Loved the book, but that always drove me crazy. They can be full of leas and asbestos, too. Not a reason to tear it down, but it's not so easy during basic updating or rehab. It's unconscionable to not warn ignorant (not stupid, unknowing) painters or workers that there's PROBABLY lead in every wall. And you can't just go blast away at it. Probably/possibly asbestos in tiles. I'm.not sure it was used as much in sheet linoleum, tho. That was done til mid-80s. And YES. they damn well knew what it does for 80+ years before 1980. In wallboard. Ceiling tiles of the 60s. Pipe wrapping. Popcorn ceilings (hideously ugly, hard to paint and lots of work to remove). You have to know things like, don't run the A/C with the toaster on the same circuit. And have a map which says what outlet does what breaker. Only 2 lower power electrical lines in old places. You'll also see tons of stupid crap. Boilers on a circuit with outlets or hall lighting (what?? It needs it's OWN) so it all goes off if someone is stupid and you have no HEAT til you go reset it. I could go on for days abour uneven stuff (floors, walls), mystery leaks from plumbing and radiators...no pretty even walls like HGTV magazine. Lol. You fix them and the cracks come BACK. Over 110 years you don't know who did what, when or why and a lot is STUPID (read: wrong) Original built ins are a PITA, btw. They're made w old wood that was never dried right so it's never going to be fully straight. I dream about nice, straight drawers that don't fight you. I'm ok w MDF bottoms in drawers. They work and they're light. Plus, they don't snag all your clothes, unlike wood. I have a lot of very old wood. It never forgets it used to be a tree. It's not like stuff from IKEA. Some is 150-200+ years old. I have a packing crate dresser I was given. Made from packing crates when they got here. The pulls are probably valuable. But the stems inside are too long and they come loose. The insides were also never sanded that carefully. It's warped, too. Twice a year, at least, you have to grab a bar of soap and soap the bottom slides for the drawers so they don't refuse to work. That's times three built-ins and 2 dressers...

There is no exhaust fan in the bathroom and/or around the cooking area to get out moisture and fumes. No fan over the loft bed to help keep air circulating to keep you cook. The bed is on two sheets of plywood, he said? It should be slated to prevent mold. Two less solar panals and you would still have more than enough and then you would have the room for two Max Ai fans or whatever brand of fans you choose. Did anyone see a smoke detector any whee?

Cool! I want one of these, but where the heck can you put it, unless you own land up north (live in Michigan) or have a lot elsewhere. Do they have tiny home villages that are developing anywhere? I could store one in my backyard because I have a driveway behind a privacy gate next to my garage. I’m a single, VERY tiny mid 60’s woman, so I need good advice… Like where to find the perfect man that I actually like! Lol! This is a good way not to have holidays for my big family at my house!

Colorado represent! Nifty work, digging a lot of what's going on here, will have to gank a couple ideas for my upcoming build. I especially like the use of a movable cabinet as a stool ... I'm great at folding-designs and thinking of how to make a space flexibly serve for many objects/purposes (my current plan involves a shower space that serves at least four purposes lol) but I don't as often tend to think of ways to make objects-that-intrinsically-take-up-space serve multiple purposes. I can tell I'll have fun riffing off that cabinet notion. Thanks for the interesting video!
