What is "humankind's slumber," I'm sorry for being nitpicky and probably annoying, but this thought process is a major pet-peeve of mine and I can't help it. Humankind has always been fucked up, just think of all the atrocities you find in your history book. But this stuff is just an inescapable side effect of our free will, which among our many other unique qualities, makes us (imo) truly beautiful life forms.

It's terrifying, being so used to storms in your life. When you get to a stretch of calm, you can't help but feel afraid of when the chaos will strike again. You can't trust any period of relief, and you can't relax, because you know that the next storm is inevitable.
@DeGroteLaaf7 жыл бұрын
The reverse is, ofcourse, just as inevitable - that eventually you'll find a calm spot again. Yet depending on your mindset that hope can either drive you nuts or give you peace in the midst of a storm.

The entire video has small, cinematic reinterpretations of historical (and lesser known) paintings - all the way down to the lighting and wardrobe of each scene. The scene with the demon on her chest is from Henry Fuseli's "The Nightmare". I think the scene where she's cutting his hair is from Honthorst's "Samson and Delilah" but I'm not absolutely sure. There are a lot similar pieces (thank you Art School). Nonetheless, it's a really phenomenal video. I've watched it so many times!

I saw her a few weeks ago and she literally gave me chills. Something about her just completely opened me up spiritually and I felt like crying. This was so shocking because I don't cry easily but there was so much positive energy in the air that for a couple of hours it was like everyone at the concert was on the same wavelength and I felt a little raw emotionally. Seeing her live was on my bucket list and it was more than worth it. In fact anytime she comes near where I live I'm going to see her. She doesn't get nearly enough credit.

A few months back I was at a music festival where she was playing, and while I hadn't known of her before, I promised a friend who hadn't gone that I'd get a good spot in the crowd to get her some pictures. I have to say, hands down, best performance I have ever seen. The atmosphere was much the same as when you went, and I actually did end up crying, as were many around me. The feeling of love and happiness and community in the crowd was just so overwhelming that I was overcome with joy, it was truly an incredible experience. I really hope to see her again.

It's a speech people give ALL THE TIME! May not be of the same effectiveness but people, especially religious people say the same thing all the time "you can only love others if you first love yourself. You can only forgive others if you first forgive yourself". If you are impressed with this speech you are most likely VERY young and impressionable and haven't seen much of the world and easily led with the masses. That speech is only true to a certain extent. Cos there are those that make horrendous mistakes and go on to make more if not worse and don't learn from their mistakes ever. Now, do these people deserve another chance - how many people must fall before one realises that these people will not change for the better only for the worse!! If the mistakes, however, are small or have not affected another person in an extreme adverse way then YES, that person should be allowed to move forward to make better choices and changes. But how can someone forgive themselves when they give a monster a chance to make better changes and all that monster does is go on to make monstrous changes that affect people extremely even fatal - can't forgive oneself if you were part of enabling that. Sometimes the human mind can be damn stupid in the name of forgiveness. Every person that has committed a bad crime can only be forgiven if they are tested and are actively seen to show effective change - action speaks louder than words and if they fail again then should never be given another chance - is why America has "Death Row". Their soul can only be forgiven for not knowing better to make the right choices but can still not be given another chance if other lives are at stake! Yet people are affected more by a powerful speech than a person's actions. Anyone with a good brain can make a powerful speech and the "lemons" will always be impressed right to the bitter end off the precipice. A bit like politics really - s/he who is able to impress the masses will be the one voted in power - yet they always do what they want once in! This is why actors have a greater impact than say someone that is giving their whole life or a huge chunk of it to charity work helping others. Cos actors pretend, make believe whilst the charity worker is real, passionate, empathetic and useful. Just be very careful to be easily impressed is all I'm saying. The speech is at the beginning of a song - it's just a song with meaning. People should be that way in real life, meaningful and deep but rather show superficialness all the time - and remember, they are just words, whilst actions should always speak louder! If these words truly affect you, then just grow as a person and actually try to be that nice forgiving person for real!!!
@TheKa897 жыл бұрын
11kwright The speech is the same as explained in buddhism about meeting and accepting/overcoming your dukkha. Physical age has little to do with it, that is a distraction and part of stress/suffering, instead simply the willingness to recognize, address, and shed these from your life, the four noble truths that you encounter. This video is quite an accurate example of Magga, or reaching it. You can have dukkha from 'good' as well as more recognizably 'bad' things, the issue is the hang up and holding onto it even after it's passed awhile ago.
@kyleannen7316 жыл бұрын
Some of these responses to your comment... I find it touching too, but in the sense of how Florence responds to it. It's so relatable. We constantly hear about how "we can't love other people until we learn to love ourselves." 11kwright is right about that. But it's how Florence is listening/responding to it that's of importance here. She's lying on the couch, half listening. Notice how he keeps saying about she has to learn to love herself multiple times in that segment too? I think Florence is just trying to show how despite us hearing these types of generic but truthful speeches over and over, it can be unbearably difficult to actually accept and apply them to ourselves.

She has all these men, women, and "demons" holding her back from loving herself and moving on from this guy that's playing her. a Hotel is a temporary home, she's at a temporary point in life that she can't move past. She is trapped with a man that she badly wants to have, but he isn't giving her any sign that he wants the same. She's learning from herself "Delilah" how to "dance" (move freely in whichever way she pleases) without being held bound to him. She's doing everything she can to be free.

I don't know how to express it properly, but this is by far the most powerful song of this album for me. You can really feel the struggle and her strength through this difficult period of time when she realises her life has to change because she's worth it. To consciously see the world and the people around you with their true colours and to decide it's time to move on. I can see the true determination in her face to put all the effort necessary to finally be free. I think this is truly beautiful, poetic and rare to see this kind of video.

[Verse 1] I’m drifting through the halls with the sunrise (Holding on for your call) Climbing up the walls for that flashing light (I can never let go) Cause I’m gonna be free and I’m gonna be fine (Holding on for your call) Cause I’m gonna be free and I’m gonna be fine (Maybe not tonight) [Verse 2] Now the sun is up and I’m going blind (Holding on for your call) Another drink just to pass the time (I can never say no) Cause I’m gonna be free and I’m gonna be fine (Holding on for your call) Cause I’m gonna be free and I’m gonna be fine (But maybe not tonight) [Pre-Chorus] It’s a different kind of danger And the bells are ringing out And I’m calling for my mother As I pull the pillars down It’s a different kind of danger And my feet are spinning around Never knew I was a dancer ‘Till Delilah showed me how [Bridge] Too fast for freedom Sometimes it all falls down These chains never leave me I keep dragging them around [Chorus] Now I’m dancing with Delilah and her vision is mine (Holding on for your call) A different kind of danger in the daylight (I can never let go) Took anything to cut you, I can find (Holding on for your call) A different kind of a danger in the daylight (Can’t you let me know?) [Verse 3] Now it’s one more boy and it’s one more lie (Holding on for your call) Taking the pills just to pass the time (I can never say no) Cause I’m gonna be free and I’m gonna be fine (Holding on for your call) Cause I’m gonna be free and I’m gonna be fine (But maybe not tonight) [Pre-Chorus] [Chorus] [Refrain] (x2) Strung up, strung out for your love Hang in, hung up, it’s so rough I’m rung and ringing out Why can’t you let me know?

the fckin light at the end of the tunnel ladies and gentlemen "" ' you think you have lost your faith but you have not you have only misplaced your faith and you can find it where it lies now deep in your soul and the way to do that is trough the simple process of love love yourself forgive yourself you can't love and forgive other people if you don't first of all love and forgive yourself you have to realize that people are fallible being they make mistakes they have to be excused from these mistakes and allow to continue on their quest for a better life and for goodness so love yourself and then love other people please forgive yourselves go on a journey of finding love and forgiveness ""

This video is a better AHS: Hotel than the actual AHS: Hotel.
@janedoe32099 жыл бұрын
+NekkuNeko omg i was literally just thinking that. i hate ahs hotel. it is so extra and offensive to try and be scary. this 6 min video has more story and depth and mood and intrigue then that whole hour and 45 min premiere

+Jane Doe uhm.. Ahs isn't even comparable to this why is it being brought up? And Hotel is perfect, the over-the-top horror has always been a part of the show, sit down.

+SK787 This season is more style than substance, and the first two were anything but that. At this point the only thing the show can boast of is its cast, and even that took a hit with Jessica Lange's departure.

Jane Doe because you know so much about horror, you must be a horror connoisseur! Sit your little 'I'm too good for this mediocre mainstream show' ass all the way down talking about "so extra and offensive to try and be scary" like the first seasons weren't.

in case you're wondering, i saw her live in seattle on the first day of the high as hope tour, and she was just as animated on-stage as she was in this video. she danced barefoot the entire concert, and near the end she got down and sprinted through the rows of seats and spun around with audience members while the music was still going.

This is- without a doubt, without an inch of disbelief, the best of the lot. HBHBHB is an amazing album, but this is the reason I love her. The maturity in this song is prettier than the best of her lyrics. The symbolism, the cutting of samsons hair, her dooming him and inadvertently dooming herself with guilt, her disbelief at who she has become. The devil on her shoulder, captivating her, possessing her, destroying her. And in between all that chaos, her beauty, her good, fighting who she thinks she has become. The forgiveness bit- I think that's the best thing I've heard in a while. I very rarely use the word love, and I'm not even a lover of music. But this is beautiful.

I know this song isn't necessarily about sobriety, but I really take it that way. Addiction is a different kind of danger. And to me, delilah is like her finding the strength within herself, like an alter-ego, to overcome it. Her repeating "holding on for your call" really resonates with me because as a kid I would wait up late for my dad to call me on my birthday and he sometimes never did. And that intense hurt has caused a lot of my substance abuse.

A few years ago, when i joined the fandom of FATM, Delilah saved my life. It was really hard time during the lockdown when i felt like loosing my mind. I had depression episode and thought about suicide a lot. One day I found Florence and i swear that Delilah gave me so much hope. Something in this song just made me dance, and cry, and i just felt like everything is going to be alright. Right now i am back here, and i feel more like the lyrics of any FATM song than ever. My demons are hunting me and i feel like i am dissapointing everyone. And just like that Delilah brings me hope once again. It just makes me feel like i am going through the process to something new. Like its healing my soul. This is why i am appreciate it so much 🦋✨

Why do the videos of this era have so many few views? I mean, the creative side is higher than others and I think the connection between them make the concept much attractive... Also, I'd like to say, as much I respect Adele, that I totally think that Hello is overrated. The success is huge in a bad way, I'm getting tired of all the people saying over and over again how good the song is... Florence had brought something new, with different aspects from the previous two albums and I think people shouldn't let this kind of things go...
