If possible, I think she’s somehow a better singer now than when she released this song. She seems much more in control.

She definitely is. She said she learned how sing properly during Ceremonials. She was shouting most of Lungs and although it sounds good, it technically wasn't well done.

Even when she really didn't sing the best, she was still one of the best at conveying her the desired emotion and mood of the song she sang. That's a skill she just inherently has and why people listened and continue to listen to her
@zhenyilani45355 жыл бұрын
She said her early sets were just her being drink and shouting and running around. She said on James Corden she took singing lessons when she was about 11 years old, but the singing teacher wanted her to do opera because she could have been a soprano, but the teacher also told her if she wanted to be a professional singer, she couldn't speak loudly, couldn't stay out late or drink or smoke or do drugs or anything, and she didn't like that because she wanted to do jazz and all sorts of stuff (and obviously drink and all that). On her IMDB Page, it says she started smoking at 14 to sabotage her voice to "show them"

I am sorry, since this is 4 years old, but despite me being a fan since 2009 and obviously seeing him as well. I only realised a couple of days, at the end of the Odyssey, which I am sure you have watched as well, after she did her last "dance steps" and before getting to the stage. It is Rob, who accompanies her to the stage, with the guitar. I never properly picked up on that, despite me loving the whole How Big How Blue How Beautiful cycle, so much. I am sure as hell, Florence never had an easy life, to put it lightly. In the face of that, I am glad for her, that she still has Rob and obviously Tom as well in the band.

Cosmic Love Florence + the Machine Lyrics A falling star fell from your heart And landed in my eyes I screamed aloud, as it tore through them And now it's left me blind The stars, the moon They have all been blown out You left me in the dark No dawn, no day I'm always in this twilight In the shadow of your heart And in the dark I can hear your heartbeat I tried to find the sound But then it stopped And I was in the darkness So darkness I became The stars, the moon They have all been blown out You left me in the dark No dawn, no day I'm always in this twilight In the shadow of your heart I took the stars from my eyes And then I made a map And knew that somehow I could find my way back Then I heard your heart beating You were in the darkness too So I stayed in the darkness with you The stars, the moon They have all been blown out You left me in the dark No dawn, no day I'm always in this twilight In the shadow of your heart The stars, the moon They have all been blown out You left me in the dark No dawn, no day I'm always in this twilight In the shadow of your heart

I love this song so much. I love the style she sang this originally. More majestic, epic, whimsical, ethereal. This is cleaner, more mature, which shows her development as a singer. But the first one was just magical. Which suits this song. You should see how she performed this at the Oxygen Festival in 2011 (or 2012, can’t recall). It was epic! She was in this green flowing dress, dancing around the stage barefoot. Couple these with heavy rains. It was like she summoned a storm. ❤️❤️❤️

I wonder if she has a hard time doing songs from Lungs? She’s said in interviews that she had no training at all when she did that album (which is why the vocals are very in your face and harsh) so now I’m assuming she’s trying to sing the songs with correct technique which is why it sounds so different. Probably makes it a lot harder to sing those songs for her now.

Man their early songs were so beautiful lyrics wise. Don't get me wrong, they still make good music, but a few of the songs in HBHBHB and a lot of the songs in High as Hope lyrically feel kind of... plain? Talking about "ghosting" and such seems kind of facile compared to the dramatic and larger than life themes in Lungs or Ceremonials.
@waltern47786 жыл бұрын
Andrius disagree bc if you look at her explanations of songs like this its always just as basic she just overtold the stories bc she was drunk while writing and she liked the dramatic sound
@AndriusReadsBooksSometimes6 жыл бұрын
Walter N That is a shame if true. Still, you wouldn't know that just from listening to those songs, and whether it was genuine or just overwriting, it still made the songs bigger and more universal.
@kojobaidoo46676 жыл бұрын
Andrius I understand what you mean, the newer songs don’t quite have the ethereal quality found in Lungs and Ceremonials. That said, I enjoy them just as much; despite a different sound, the depth that Florence goes into about her life and how it is portrayed is amazing to me, and I love the album even though it’s not what we’ve come to expect. It’s unconventional, but in a good way.
@kojobaidoo46676 жыл бұрын
Plus, I don’t know about you, but I enjoy being able to relate to Florence, but still the way she describes seemingly normal events really sets her apart. For example, a normal person listening to the lyrics of “Big God” wouldn’t assume that the song is about being ghosted.
