I love how she plays the trumpet with her voice

This is such an early cover in her career too guys. Before lungs was even on the shelves it's like those early demos of all your favorite bands. This is the song that also introduced me to Beirut 9 years ago. It meant something to Florence and you can hear her heart and raw power of emotion put into the cover.
@theelittlespook93099 жыл бұрын
i like this because i can listen to this version during winter and fall and it fits the mood and i can listen to the original one during summer and spring and it brings a different aspect
I’ve been a Beirut fan for a decade and I always occasionally come back to this cover because I like her version every now and then. She does it a loving tribute.

When someone covers a song, they aren't attempting to replicate the original. That'd be stupid. They create something new. This is a great cover, and the original is great.
@GeoGuy3888 жыл бұрын
Nope, it's not even a good cover. I love Florence, but this was not well-done. Really jarring imbalance between the vocals and instrumentals.
@CarrotFlowers4218 жыл бұрын
I love jarring imbalances. This is an emotional song about jarring imbalances. It's perfectly imperfect.

From my experience listening to Florence, and this song specifically, the magic of her as an artist comes out as her voice in a sense becomes the music. Her voice dances between the foreground and the background... It's this ephemeral quality of hers that makes what she does work.

I must admit, when the song started, I went "Oh great, another straight karaoke cover." BUT! What a vocal! Absolutely breathtaking, and opens up an entirely new dimension to the song.

The perfect resonance she had in this cover ugh 💙💚🙏🏼

this is absolutely beautiful no? butttt, it doesn't need more, she uses her voice to document the emotions of the original backed only by the ukelele. she really brings out the emotion in those words. gives me goosebumps every time basically. gorgeous (L)

Really... I have no idea why people dont like this cover, I liked it so much! Its not a fan thing to like every single song your artist performs. I mean, I really like florence but... Its just that... THIS COVER IS GREAT!!!

The times we had Oh, when the wind would blow with rain and snow Were not all bad We put our feet just where they had, had to go Never to go The shattered soul Following close but nearly twice as slow In my good times There were always golden rocks to throw At those who Those who admit defeat too late Those were our times, those were our times And I will love to see that day That day is mine When she will marry me outside with the willow trees And play the songs we made They made me so And I would love to see that day Her day was mine

I love this. Its just beautiful. For the people who don't like her voice being the trumpet, this cover is meant to be just her and the guitar, simple and beautiful. I think her voice is beautiful, and this cover honours the original song.
@MrMojoRisin2213 жыл бұрын
I've noticed a lot of people ripping this version, saying it's not better than the original. I don't think any artist tries to upstage the original artist when they do a cover. You have to think Florence had much respect for the Beirut version and this is her interpretation of it. It's not better, it's not worse....it's different. Both versions are beautiful and get frequent play in my world.

How dare you all say this version is crap! Those of you have said such things obviously have some sort of ear mutation, because you can't hear how Florence Welch can turn such songs into a musical phenomenon as this! What she has done to this song is spectacular... in other words, you should just plain prefer this version, because there's absolutely NO competition!

I love both versions of the song. It's a cover, a tribute to the original song. It's not going to be like the original. I agree Florence's voice is perhaps a bit too harsh for an acoustic version, but I feel as though she captures the spirit and mood of the song very well.

@moncor3 It's all about the blue notes, man. She hits a lot of notes that are between intervals, but has perfect control of her voice. You might know something about music, but your brain can't parse melody. The way she sings adds so much drama and tension to her voice. Totally beautiful.

SHUT UP WITH THE HATE MAIL PEEPS CHILL AND LIVE YOUR LIFE. NO-ONE WILL DIE IF SOMEONE DOESNT LIKE THIS COVER. RELAX. YOU'LL LIVE LONGER.
@jacquemilon51313 жыл бұрын
I think Florence's cover does exactly what a cover should do -- put a new spin on a song we already love. The power of her voice isn't so much a detriment as it is a new interpretation. The beautiful longing of the song is expressed calmly in the original, but in this cover, it's as fiery as Florence's red hair. =] Different ways of expressing the same sentiment!
@azimuth45714 жыл бұрын
@rareflorence Zach does the trumpet parts vocally sometimes. I don't recall whether he does in the recording with the instruments drowning it out or not, but he definitely does it pretty much the same way.

I LOVE YOU FLORENCE. NEVER LEAVE THIS WORLD. BECAUSE YOUR VOICE IS THE VOICE OF ANGELS. AND YOUR MELODIES ARE THE MELODIES OF GODDESSES. And above all you do this all with only human strength.
