Florence + The Machine - Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) | Lyrics
The looking glass, so shiny and new
How quickly the glamour fades
I start spinning, slipping out of time
Was that the wrong pill to take? (Raise it up)
You made a deal, and now it seems you have to offer up
But will it ever be enough? (Raise it up, raise it up)
It's not enough (Raise it up, raise it up)
Here I am, a rabbit-hearted girl
Frozen in the headlights
It seems I've made the final sacrifice
We raise it up, this offering
We raise it up
This is a gift, it comes with a price
Who is the lamb and who is the knife?
Midas is king and he holds me so tight
And turns me to gold in the sunlight
I look around, but I can't find you (raise it up)
If only I could see your face (raise it up)
I start rushing towards the skyline (raise it up)
I wish that I could just be brave
I must become a lion-hearted girl
Ready for a fight
Before I make the final sacrifice
We raise it up, this offering
We raise it up
This is a gift, it comes with a price
Who is the lamb and who is the knife?
Midas is king and he holds me so tight
And turns me to gold in the sunlight
Raise it up, raise it up
Raise it up, raise it up
And in the spring I shed my skin
And it blows away with the changing wind
The waters turn from blue to red
As towards the sky I offer it
This is a gift, it comes with a price
Who is the lamb and who is the knife?
Midas is king and he holds me so tight
And turns me to gold in the sunlight
This is a gift, it comes with a price
Who is the lamb and who is the knife?
Midas is king and he holds me so tight
And turns me to gold in the sunlight
This is a gift, it comes with a price
Who is the lamb and who is the knife?
Midas is king and he holds me so tight
And turns me to gold in the sunlight
This is a gift

She is a true Goddess, Florence is us reminding us of who we were, and thus still are in many ways, very pagan, she sacrificed herself for Midas's gold, yet holds some control over her path, the dagger, hence, she is both the sacrifice and the dagger.

Florence I'm sure agrees with you considering it's on the set list for her 2022 tour. I love this song too, as a gay man I can say she is one of the most beautiful women in the world. Like a lot of her songs you can tell how much Stevie Nicks influenced her. But she also brings her own style. Best modern music artist. Period.

This song is absolutely the best thing that I ever experienced in any concert. Back then she was telling them to lift their gfs on their shoulders. I'm a dude and my friend is. Out of no where he just picks me up. I had some drinks so I had my liquid courage on. When it got quiet I screamed as loud as I could that we loved her and she returned it saying she loves us too. Totally surreal and mind blowing. 💕

True Story. I had the privilege to attend her concert in São Paulo, Brasil, on last year MITA festival. The zenith of the night was when she asked the crowd to lift some "human sacrifices" for this song. Man, how I wished I had a girlfriend to lift on my shoulders and offer ourselves to the goddess on the stage 😅

I love how the video uses a lot of symbols from Bacchanalia, the greek celebration to Dionysus, god of vine and joy. This is such an emotional song for me because it reminds me of my dad. My dad never actually liked Florence, he referred to her songs as "fruitcake music". Lungs was the only album I had at the time, and after he died suddenly last year when I was 14, I used to listen to it on repeat and cry my heart out. I remember Mum playing this album in the car on the way to the funeral. After that I couldn't listen to it for months. I pulled it out again recently, and am remembering how much I loved it.
@someoneout-there2165

Wonder why he said that. I'm an open and proud fruitcake but I've never heard her sing about gays. The closest is you could interpret Spectrum as a gay anthem but it can mean something else entirely from person to person .

Ed I assure you these are the refined tools of old and it is merely their aesthetic and their proclivity that are so new as to be raw. The design of musing is older than words, as the hunt for words, for symbolic meaning through them, predates lyric. Additionally I find it unlikely this particular rose rose to fame on anything less than an established base of fandom older than the word for what cottagecore represents. That said I'm no expert but merely a fan. Thanks for the word with which to look up similar less known artists.

My interpretation is as following: She wants to transform from a weak and scared rabbit into a fierce, fighting lion. But in order to do so, she must sacrifice herself and her own life. What we see on the video is (I think) obvious reference to the Last Supper, then a funeral. But on the contrary, it's very happy moment to everyone (we see those people clearly happy), as end of life of weak girl will result in beggining of new, strong woman. Amazing :)

RABBIT HEART (RAISE IT UP) LYRICS [Verse 1] The looking glass, so shiny and new How quickly the glamour fades I start spinning, slipping out of time Was that the wrong pill to take? (Raise it up) You made a deal, and now it seems you have to offer up But will it ever be enough? (Raise it up, raise it up) It's not enough (Raise it up, raise it up) Here I am, a rabbit-hearted girl Frozen in the headlights It seems I've made the final sacrifice [Pre-Chorus] We raise it up, this offering We raise it up [Chorus] This is a gift, it comes with a price Who is the lamb and who is the knife? Midas is king and he holds me so tight And turns me to gold in the sunlight [Verse 2] I look around, but I can't find you (raise it up) If only I could see your face (raise it up) Instead of rushing towards the skyline (raise it up) I wish that I could just be brave I must become a lion-hearted girl Ready for a fight Before I make the final sacrifice [Pre-Chorus] We raise it up, this offering We raise it up [Chorus] This is a gift, it comes with a price Who is the lamb and who is the knife? Midas is king and he holds me so tight And turns me to gold in the sunlight [Bridge] Raise it up, raise it up Raise it up, raise it up And in the spring I shed my skin And it blows away with the changing wind The waters turn from blue to red As towards the sky I offer it [Chorus] This is a gift, it comes with a price Who is the lamb and who is the knife? Midas is king and he holds me so tight And turns me to gold in the sunlight [Chorus] This is a gift, it comes with a price Who is the lamb and who is the knife? Midas is king and he holds me so tight And turns me to gold in the sunlight [Chorus] This is a gift, it comes with a price Who is the lamb and who is the knife? Midas is king and he holds me so tight And turns me to gold in the sunlight [Outro] This is a gift

If you listen closely, there's a very distinct, sharp inhale at the end of each line. Subconsciously I think it somehow really adds to the feel of the song. Florence is best listened to over and over again. Her splendid magnificence is not without continued attention to fine details :)

I interpret this song is about relationship...in beggining it's all new and wonderful but then we begin to make sacrifices.. the relationship becomes a prison with certain price tag attached..but before we freeze like this " become gold" we have to leave to be ourselves again.

I remember putting this on a mix CD for my mum the summer this was released. I went to uni later that same year and bless her, one time she asked me who it was that sang 'The lovely song that says "Praise the Lord" on it'. Took me about 3 minutes before the ball dropped as to which song she was referring to 😂
