Florida Camping Keeps Getting Better Here In The Gulf

Maybe it was because we didn't want to go home... maybe it was the perfect sunny weather in the middle of winter... or maybe we just love Ft De Soto in St Petersburg, FL... whatever the reason we were lucky and diligent and just kept adding days to our stay at what has to be one of the most beautiful county campgrounds and parks in the country.
Join us today for 3 of those days... we move sites and spend our time waiting doing something fun by camping right in the sand. We take Maggie to her favorite dog beach. We watch sunsets, take hikes, ride bikes... just about everything that makes a perfect RV trip a perfect RV trip for us. And what's crazy, each day here kept getting better and better. And we did not want to go home... so we didn't.

Excellent park. It's not horrible to switch sites as long as you don't have all your belongings out. Always a good idea to lock things up. Maggie meeting some friends, sweet. 🙂👍

I love your show. We camp all the time. We have a little dog Cookielast June she got very ill and had a kidney removed. We had to put her on a special diet. Which she hated , a year later now they told is her remaining kidney is in trouble. We are so broken hearted. And we are letting her èat her favorite foods. But we know her days are numbered. So enjoy every minute of Maggie. Cookie is 12

I stumbled on you all page because we are looking to purchase a Travato. So glad I found you all, Loving your trips. I know you all no longer have the Travato. I would love to hear you all thoughts on 59K looking back. Good and bad. Do you have a video talking about the van? It looks like did very well through Alaska. I keep going back and forth watching current trips and trips in the Travato.

Almost all good. We wanted more clearance and at least AWD. Even with just front wheel drive it did great in Alaska and everywhere else too. We did have to skip places because it and that made us really want the extra clearance.

Also curious if you have regrets from moving from a van to the Ekko… we currently have a Roadtrek and are considering the Ekko for a little more room and seats that can accommodate a car seat for our granddaughter (even if it’s just a day trip😉)

We really do like having the extra room with the Ekko, and that outweighs all the issues we have had. I think the Dog Beach is just called the The Dog Beach at Fort DeSoto.

What sort of MPG do you get in the EKKO? Our very first RV was a very thirsty B+ of an early '80s vintage. I love the arrangement, there was just enough room for two of us to be comfortable and yet it was only 20 feet long. But when we took it on its first trip and I kept tabs on the fuel, I was horrified at the end of the trip to discover that we'd averaged 8 MPG. We never took it on a long trip after that! Just local trips and one extended trip when my husband was in the hospital, and it was great to have so I could live in the hospital parking lot. Fuel efficiency has improved in the last 40 years, but not enough for us to consider another B+/C-. We're happy with our ~20 MPG in our little Solis Pocket.

@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle Some in the Pocket community have gotten over 20 MPG. But they are people who are really good with a steady foot and going 55 mph or so. And of course, that's not mountain driving. But it can be done.
