Jekyll is a great place. Lot's of history and lots to see. The stained glass window in the front of the chapel was made by L.C. Tiffany. Horton's pond has alligators, and the Georgia Sea Turtle Center is a cool place to visit. Enjoyed your video about the island.

It is a wonderful place. Our doctor appointments back at home forced us to squeeze the dates a little. But, we usually just stay put for 2-3 days and move on to other places... so much to see and so little time. 😂. But on longer trips we usually do 2-3 weeks of 2 nighters and then try to find a place to stay for 5-7 nights to rest and take care of chores... then repeat the process. That’s just the way we seem to love to do it. But Jekyll Island is a place that deserves many days of fun and relaxation. Thanks for being with us.

@@VANTREKKINGlifestyle Fortunately the bridge to Brunswick that was knocked out was not on the causeway to Jekyll Island. We could get off the island, but it was a long drive to work. It was a sad night. Lots of cars fell into the water and many people died as the tide swept them out to sea. This was before I-95 was completed, so there were a lot of cars waiting for the ship to pass under the drawbridge. November 4th, I think. Election night 1972. Thanks for your videos!

Jekyll Island campground is privately owned and the sites are rather close together. The beach with the trees has changed significantly in the 8 yrs I've lived down here. The trees are really not drift wood but the remains of previously live trees. The beach is extraordinarily clean and beautiful!! Thanks for visiting!

Thanks for the great information. We agree that the campground is quite crowded but being able to stay on the island was worth staying there. We hope you have a Very Merry Christmas!
@jlayman73812 жыл бұрын
I would politely like to disagree with your first sentence. It is not privately owned, it is part of the State Park and thus a State Campground. Many of the sites are from the original campground layout from the 1950's when campers were smaller. That being said, this island is ordered by state law to be self supporting, not dependant on State funds. That is what has kept the State government mostly out of the running if it, which is done by the Jekyll Authority. A fair percentage of the land is protected from development, so all funding must come from something like 65% of the land, the rest bringing no income from room tax, etc. The money has to come from somewhere, so land for the houses you see is leased, and there is a somewhat higher camping fee. It is a beautiful place, and I would like to think it would still have wild areas for my Grandchildren to explore.

Hey guys! The drive? Different. In some ways better... in some ways not as good. Much, much safer. Much more nimble. But more road noise. Sleeping? Like rocks! To our surprise it has not been an issue. In fact we may sleep better than we do when at home, but it may be because we do more and are more tired when we fall asleep. Be seeing you!

20:21 For me I would of finished it with some chili 🌶 flake. 🤤 looks delicious. Nothing beats a good home cooked campfire meal.

We’ll keep that in mind for next time. Lynn tries to limit spicy foods too much since it’s such a small space inside (if you follow me) 😂

Do you know why the alternator doesn't charge the battery?
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle3 жыл бұрын
Hi Robert. Did we say something about that in the video? Our van has two alternators... one charges the chassis batteries and one charges the house lithium batteries, and it does a great job of doing that while we’re driving. If I missed something in your question let me know.

Second video of Jekyll Island we've seen recently. Been several years since we've been there. Back then, there was only a couple hotels, a restaurant and maybe one at one of the hotels. I didn't hear you mention it, but the idea of the Federal reserve came to be on Jekyll Island in 1910. www.federalreservehistory.org/essays/jekyll-island-conference

The island has added several more hotels since the last time we were there in one specific area, we should have shown that. Thanks for the information on the Federal Reserve. We appreciate you watching and we hope you have a Very Merry Christmas!

How do you keep Maggie in the bike cart?
@VANTREKKINGlifestyle3 жыл бұрын
Maggie’s cart has a small leash on the top of cart that we attached to Maggie’s collar, she really does enjoy having the front open.

Feeding trail mix with the squirrel reminds me of when I was at Kouchibouguac National Park in New Brunswick in September. I was sitting at the picnic table munching on some chips when this little red squirrel jumped up on the table wanting me to share. She was a little nervous so took her a few runs to finally grab a chip from me. She disappeared for a couple minutes. Then as I was still sitting there, I felt these little claws climbing up up my back to shoulder looking for more chips. I know I'm not supposed to be feeding them, but it was just too cute!

Thanks for sharing, it’s hard not to feed them... I guess that’s why they are so tame. I don’t think a couple of peanuts or chips hurt. We appreciate you watching and commenting.
