Took hundreds of thousands of years to perfect the river and only at pathetic handful of humans to think it’s a good idea to damn it up and everybody was just fine with it . Well, not anymore let’s start raising some hell and save what we can before it’s too late. 🌎💕

I grew up on the Ocklawaha. I remember the large number of fish it had and there were some very large fish. The fish are no longer abundant and the grass has almost disappeared on the St Johns River. Get rid of the dam and nature will heal and return to a healthy river system. God made it that way for a reason.

GREAT QUESTION! We're in FLoridaDUH
@amygiles8614 Жыл бұрын
It's because of the huge lake that the dam created. This is about money. I want the dam gone. I personally want Ll the dams and locks that were installed for the barge canal to be removed. Completely free the beautiful Ocklawaha River.

@@floridadefenders I've fished the lake of the ocklawaha all my life but it's not going to hurt my feelings if they remove it I don't actually care either way ill still fish there

Every year the State of Florida spends about $140,,000 to maintain the dam. But i think it is much more then that if you include the maintenance of the Rodman Reservoir. Money that could be better spent on bringing back the Indian River and protecting the Everglades. The indian River and Everglades recreational fishing is much more important that Rodman Artificial Reservoir, which serves no purpose anymore.

The river should not be used as a storm water holding pond. That is the most idiotic idea of this discussion. Ocala and other towns need to build their own storm water holding ponds and clean their nasty Yankee storm water out of our river systems.

He should be fired. What he said is wrong. Animals had to adapt to what man did.

You would think that some engineer would have figured out it wasn't going to work. BEFORE IT WAS STARTED! But I'm sure someone had to get paid by our politicians first.

I don’t understand….if the dam collapsed it would be a danger to downstream communities as stated by people who want the dam gone……but to get rid of the dam it would have to be dynamited. How would that impact the very same communities? I moved here from North Carolina so I should not have an opinion but I’m trying to understand both sides. After all, everything government does involves money needed from taxpayers and now I am a Florida taxpayer.

@beboboymann3823 Wrong. Dynamite is not needed to remove the dam. The state draws down the reservoir every so often by opening the gates to release water. The same can be done over an extended time to thoroughly drain the reservoir. Once drained, excavators can remove the damn and other earthmoving equipment can restore the area where the dam currently sits. This has been done before around the U.S.
