Nicely done Lindsey! I, like many native Floridians, grew up on fishing canals. I took my son canal fishing as he was growing up and still get emotional when I look at photos of him with a 9 pound largemouth he hauled of a canal at age 10. I still pull over at canals all over the state when running errands, coming home from work or visiting family. You can hit some action with just a few minutes of fishing at each stop. Literally five minutes to get a personal best fish, introduce a kid to fishing or make a lifetime memory. Thanks for this great video.

Great video, nice job. I used to do the same thing. I’m 76 now. I live on the water and still fish several days a week and dive often too. It was nice to see a video from someone who appreciates not and avails himself of the resources that Florida still has left to offer while at the same time can describe how the state has been de-natured and distressed by so much human intervention

By yourself sitting along a canal full of gators, you have little kids, be careful out there. This is coming from someone that got pulled in the canal after a gator took my fish. Just like you I was by myself, if the gator would have decided to go after me, my wife would have never found out what happened to me...worst part would have been 2 days later after this happen, we found out she was pregnant with our first child.

Great job documenting with this video, really tells the story well about Florida’s history. I’m sure you know but when retrieving a fish from the water, always stay alert if you remain at the waters edge for gators. I lost a snook and almost a foot doing just that on the rocks at a spillway. Keep on keepin on Lawson!

I was once a very avid fisher of the ICW around Lantana. The sole reason I never ventured into places like he is in, even though incredibly enticing, was because there are gators everywhere. I know they leave you alone most of the time, but like you said about retrieving a fish, that's the part that scared me.

This was a fun video even though it was a tough grind for a big fish. It did pay off at the end! Some really cool strikes too. The documentary elements about how the canals came to be and how they effect things currently was a cool. It had a nice story telling effect with enough information to provide context and a self reflective emotional element but not so much that we forget its a fishing video. Seriously Dude, that cough... I hope you and the fam are feeling much better by the time we see this.

I made the MISTAKE of lipping a Snook with a lure still in it's mouth ONE TIME! It shook real hard and the lure hooked me in the little finger, right at a joint. You don't EVER want that to happen to you...NOT EVER. It shook and shook til their was blood all over the boat. It only stopped when I put my foot on it and actually cut the hook off until I could get it out of my finger. It DESTROYED that joint in my little finger.

Nice work L-Dog! Back in the 1930s the "Cross Florida Barge Canal" was started and the idea was to connect the gulf coast to the east coast via canals controlled by locks. It was started but after years of construction and political back and forth we finally realized the environmental impact would have been devastating and was stopped. I don't know how many more mistakes Florida's waterways can take.

@lawsonlindseyfishing Just want to say as a young(ish) father of 3 with a love for the outdoors and passion for fishing, I just find these types of videos you do so incredibly moving and heartwarming. I can't tell you the number of times I've returned from a hunting of fishing outing and get asked "did you get anything". When I say no, people always say "oh bummer", but genuinely the hunting and fishing success is such a small part of why I love it. I always say that catching fish, or getting an animal is just the icing on the already fantastic cake. There's nothing like getting married and having kids to put into perspective just how lucky you are to be able to get out and do the things you love. Your appreciation for all things in nature is why you will always be my favorite creator. Thank you for all you do.
