So, she was sentenced to losing a job where she made nearly 60k dollars last year at as per govsalary's records. Along with a great state funded pension and AME full med. benefits for life after retirement. So, her sentence was way worse than someone that worked at a gas station or a restaurant. She was OTJ for 5 years and would've collected at least a 100k yearly pension for the rest of her life had she retired from the dept. after 20 years. Is that not a "Big deal"? Even if she gets a fine and DWI classes, she's lost well over a million dollars in potential income. That's one helluva sentence IMO, way more than one in the private sector would get.

Having been a cop and an instructor in two police academies, I know exactly what a recruit goes through to graduate and become a police officer or deputy. The training and testing is harder than it has ever been, much harder than when I went through 40 years ago. I have no idea why anyone, after getting through that, would risk it all by drinking and driving. More importantly, they put the public they have sworn to protect at risk of injury or death. Years ago, another cop who stopped you would have just driven or followed you home and not said anything. Those days are long gone, as well they should be. The best advice I can give young cops about drinking is to do it only when at home off duty, or if going out to drink, spend the money for an Uber. It is simply not worth killing or injuring someone else, yourself, or losing the job you worked so hard to get. And, leave your gun at home!

Intoxicated or not, it really is amazing how unfamiliar she was with the processes taking place. Like asking about the field sobriety test and the reasons she thought the officer thought she was impaired. I don't think the local law enforcement is missing anything with her no longer on the force.
