Same in Canada. We were never perfect, but it was damn good for a few generations. Like the US, after WW2 we had all of our robust industry, untouched by war and much of it was quickly converted to manufacturing consumer goods, automobiles, air planes - all that good stuff. Don't get me wrong, even with the decline and incompetence and corruption, Canada is still one of the better western nations to live in. The housing and cost of living is too much for most people. I posted a comment earlier where I mentioned that in 2005 *55%* of French voters had voted against further cessions of national sovereignty in a proposed European Constitution, and that in 2007 Sarkozy signed France up for them _anyway,_ by amending the French constitution. I seem to recall that *_61%_* of Dutch voters voted against the measure. How did the _Dutch_ government give _your_ voters the finger? Re criticism of the EU not being allowed, _and how._ The "pro-triple-Frexit" politician I mentioned in my previous comment is blacklisted by French mainstream media as _systematically_ as third-party candidates are by _American_ mainstream media. In the 2017 French presidential primary, _very nearly half of French voters_ voted for candidates, from both leftwing and rightwing parties, who had voiced strong reservations about the EU, and/or NATO, and/or the euro and the ECB. By the time the 2022 elections came 'round, they had all learned to keep their mouths shut, under penalty of media-coverage death. It was like watching _Dr. Strangelove II or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love NATO, the EU, and the ECB._ 🤦♂

@@PeterCraigMartin Dutch parliament is supposed to check compliance of laws and treaties to the constitution. Actually this is a violation of the "Trias Politica". So parliament is able with simple majority to bypass the constitution. Do realize that changing the constitution requires a 2/3 majority twice before and after elections. The 3rd Rutte coalition even arranged for the rejection in the senate of a law a decade beforehand accepted in the house in 2006 which required that any transfer of sovereignty would require the very same 2/3 majority twice similar to that required for the constitution.

Dear Scott, regarding the quote about the hornets nests, the best quote I have ever heard. Over 40 years of police experience in Amsterdam-Netherlands. And I have heard many I can tell you.
@PeterCraigMartin2 ай бұрын
I've used a similar metaphor when upbraiding people who support the rabidly xenophobic and anti-immigrant policies of far-right parties in France: *_you don't get to beat the crap out of hornet's nests in your neighborhood and then complain that your back yard is infested with hornets._* The hornet's nests in question are obviously Libya, Syria, and Ukraine. Destroying those countries has sent _millions_ of refugees and economic migrants to Western Europe, including France, and France has supported and actively participated in all three nest-beatings. Interestingly, _Ukrainian_ refugees (all 5 or 6 million of them) are treated _differently:_ they are given provisional residence permits, provisional work permits, and housing assistance. Is it because they're overwhelmingly White? Is it because they're overwhelmingly Christian? Is it because the Ukrainian war is still ongoing and the EU's public narrative is that Ukraine has more than a snowball's chance in hell of prevailing? The answer to all three questions is _yes._ PS: Here in the Western Hemisphere, we do things differently: we beat hornet's nests with brutal economic/trade sanctions, DoS/CIA-managed régime-change operations, and a completely ineffectual and on balance _harmful_ approach to managing recreational drug use and abuse. But the result is the same: _millions_ of hornets in our back yard. As in Europe, the hoi polloi may complain, but employers in search of cheap, wage-lowering labor and residential landlords in search of additional, rent-boosting demand don't seem to mind.

Scott gets a lot wrong when he steps outside military matters: The inflation rate is nowhere near "21%," an absurd claim. It has drifted between 7.4% and 9.1% since November 2023, and for the last full month of data, it was 8.6% in September 2024.. See for example the Trading Economics website. Scott jabbering at Nima for at most an error in phrasing was unpleasant. Something's getting to him, clearly. Scott was also enthusiastically trumpeting Russia's ability to make Odessa once again a Russian city just six months ago. Here he goes after Nima's throat for a slip of the tongue making that claim implicitly. It's poor behavior.

Scott is mistaken about Odessa. The more the war keeps going the more unpopular is the regime, especially in Odessa. The forced mobilization does much worse than the bombings. My wife, who is ukrainian, went to Odessa two months ago. She told me that she was feeling that many people in Odessa are favourable to the Russians. They don't say it openly, because they have to be careful but you can easily guess it. If the Russians come, I don't see the people opposing any resistance. On the contrary, there are hidden resistance fighters waiting to spring into action. In the meantime the partisans are helping the Russians a lot by providing information. Most of the people will be happy to go back to Mother Russia and have their historical monuments restored.
@juliananthony12442 ай бұрын
The issue is rather, as long as the people of Odessa AREN'T openly resisting Zlensky's corrupt regime, there is very little Russia can do. There is already tons of lies in the media, even people in the West believe it even without proof. Imagine ACTUAL proof showing up... I am more shocked at the Ukrainian military....they are the ones who keep sending people to die, who understand how they're wrecking Ukraine's youth with every week. I understand that elements of the Azov Brigade are still around and in high ranks, probably pulling some strings. Ukraine's military must do something openly, to show both Russia, the West, but also the BRICS countries that Ukraine isn't united behind Zlensky. As it is, the Russian-speakers of the Donbass are safe in Russia's control in public and nobody dares mention Donbass be returned to Ukraine, because they know the people would revolt.

There is at least one more reason why Scott is not right when he talks about Odessa. He assumes that Ukrainians will be able to show the same level of resistance tomorrow, after six months, after one year. But in fact everything in the Universe resists the pressure at first, but then suddenly breaks into small pieces and thus ceases to exist as a whole thing. That's what gonna happen to Ukrainian military quite soon. So there will be no resistance in Odessa, no "exposed flanks of the Russians" etc. There simply will be no one to be able to hit them.

This is a matter of international law - you can't just come and say "it's mine, give it back!" Crimea, Kherson, Zaporozhye, Donetsk and Lugansk didn't just become Russian - they held a referendum, left Ukraine and then asked to join Russia. Odessa didn't hold such a referendum - that's why it remains Ukrainian. But this doesn't cancel the possibility of such a referendum in the future. Now the Nazis won't allow it - they'll just kill everyone who even thinks about a referendum. But when the Russians win, their conditions will be accepted and the Nazis will leave power, officials at all levels will be replaced in all regions of the country, because all of today's ones are tainted with Nazism. And the new leaders of the regions may well want to separate from Ukraine - including in order to avoid paying the debts taken by Zelensky and Co. And then the opportunity will open up for Odessa and others to join Russia.

Zelensky didn't try to prevent the conflict through diplomacy because he lacks honor and integrity. In 2014 there was a coup. Soon after, there was a massacre in Odessa (dozens of people were burned alive). Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. A civil war broke out due to the rise in ethnic tensions. For 8 years the Ukrainian military was indiscriminately shelling civilians living in Donbas. If Zelensky honored the Minsk agreement and pledged neutrality, none of this would have happened. The 8 year civil war would have ended and Donbas would have remained part of Ukraine. War is the ultimate failure of diplomacy. Zelensky, Poroshenko, Merkel and Hollande admitted that Ukraine had no intention to honor the Minsk agreements. Who didn't want peace? Who advised against the 2022 peace talks in April? Hint: someone visited Zelensky in Kiev at that time. Russia's national security was compromised once NATO began to expand eastwards. Russia clearly stated that Ukraine joining NATO was a red line (November 2021) and unfortunately this concern was never taken seriously. The Russians openly stated: if nothing changes, we will be forced to act in order to defend our national security. Enhancing the national security of one country at the expense of another is unacceptable. The Russians have legitimate security concerns. 20th September, 2021: Ukraine launched military drills with US and NATO. NATO is not a defensive alliance. NATO illegally bombed Yugoslavia (a direct violation of the U.N. Charter). We should never forget what they did to Libya, Afghanistan, Iraq etc. Who blew up the pipeline causing an environmental disaster? Zelensky banned all opposition and arrested a leading priest. Zelensky tried to invoke article 5 under false pretenses. Remember the incident in Poland. Ethnic Russians living in Ukraine were treated as subhuman. Their language and culture was being oppressed. Poroshenko said, “Our children will go to schools and kindergartens-theirs will hide in the basements”. Russians will never forget the 2014 Odessa massacre. The whole world needs to know about it. Why was Denis Kireev eliminated? He was a member of Ukraine's negotiating team during the peace negotiations. He wanted to help his country. Ukraine has a hit list. They target artists, journalists and ordinary citizens. Hundreds of children are on this list. 13 year old Faina Savenkova was placed on this list. Pink Floyd's Roger Waters is on this list. Jimmy Dore (American stand-up comedian, podcaster) and Aaron Maté (Canadian writer and journalist) are on this list. There is evidence that Ukrainian troops have been indiscriminately shelling civilians in Donbas (they used petal mines and targeted areas where there was no military presence). The azov troops trapped in the azovstal steelworks in Mariupol used human shields. They refused to allow civilians to leave despite of humanitarian corridors being present. Russia held a proposed cease fire in order for the civilians to leave, but azov would not allow the civilians to leave. Ukraine has committed many acts of terrorism (car bombs and other forms of assassination). Darya Dugina (journalist) R.I.P. The first terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed the truck driver and the individuals in the adjacent car (innocent civilian victims). The second terrorist attack on the Kerch bridge killed two parents and severely injured their young daughter. I have done a lot of research and it took me a long time to write this comment. I have stated a lot of facts and I have given my honest opinion. I have provided a brief summary of events that took place. In order to explain this whole situation in great detail, a book would need to be written. Hopefully someone will write an UNBIASED book, stating facts and allowing the readers to form their own judgments. Everything I said can be fact checked and verified.

I am convinced, this be the reality, in 20 years. Hopefully the younger Generation won't have this brainwashed hate towards Russia no longer. Scandinavia, has a great geopolitical potential in cooperation with Russia, and also BelaRus. I will start promoting this as a hardline, I think there will be this momentum in time opportunity under next coming years, as this ongoing war, has, and will be ended. European leaders, have to digest this loss of this stupid war. Or not, ppl will vote then out, in coming years. This is just something that has to come, it's the law of nature, to deal with your neighbour, rather than kill him. That's why humanity persisted for so long. Communicating and common benefits.

He started this change by claiming that Russia is under some BRICS members pressure to end the war soon and not at terms that are favorable to Russia. It kinda snowballed from there. He would rarely criticize Russians before then (even when criticism was needed), yet not he is almost hostile to some positions that he supported earlier in the war, like this Odessa topic. Don't know what changed but i do not like it!

I think that the capture of Odessa is necessary for Russia for the simple reason that the West is unreasonable and is not ready to treat Russia equally!! Russia does not need Odessa, but it needs to be able to move freely on the Danube, because Russia has always had access to the Danube, it is not normal for Russia to be in Crimea and not be able to use the Danube, and therefore Russia will have to fight for Odessa. There is also Transnistria, as well as many other countries that want to cooperate with Russia, and I see no reason why anyone should be able to do so.The Danube is a very important corridor and I see no reason why Russia should not be able to use it? I also don't see what kind of country can tell Russia that it can't sail on the Danube?!?! Today it is Britain and America, but tomorrow we will see if anyone will be able to say that all the warehouses in Transnistria as well as military bases will belong to someone else, I wonder to whom? Who's going to drive the Russian army out of there, so if Russia allows everyone to sail the Northern Route, then why can't Russia use the Danube?!?! Miss

What would happen, if Odessa ( Russian since 1776) citizens have the same kind of referendum, as Donbass earlier, to reunite with Russia? That beautiful city was illegally on a wim gifted to Ukraine by Nikita Khruszev in 1956, like a vase. I understand that Putin’s gov wouldn’t like to expand their operations, sacrificing too much for one city. But, eventually, Odessa denizens wouldn’t want to be denigrated and abused by Uk n**zis, like in Donbass. I’ve been many times in Odessa and always admired the liveliness and energy of it, with unique sense of humor, expressed by Odessa people in all places. In those days Ukrainian movu was rarely heard.

It is not for foreign nations to decide what is reasonable and what ist not. It should be the decision of the Russian speaking people if they like their home area to be part of Russia or part of Ukraine. Of course, Russia can decide that it is too expensive to occupy more Russian speaking Oblasts and perform a referendum in each one. But that would be sad, and leave those Russian speaking people suppressed by the Ukraine Nazi state. 1945 Germany could be de-nazified because the total German defeat was obvious by the occupying allied forces. Keeping some part of the German Reich unoccupied would have been considered ridiculous. The same way, there will be no de-nazification in Ukraine without occupying the whole country.

The American people are not to blame for this. Blame the politicians in Washington who sold themselves to the WEF and NATO. The same politicians that are trying to destroy America. The same problems that are occurring in EU are happening here too. Wish I could say all Americans felt this way, but the propaganda machine is strong. It’s easy for many to get lost in it.

Damn, if Russia doesn’t get Kharkov and Odessa than they lost. I’d be pissed if I was a Russian parent of a dead or disabled son. My son died and Kharkov and Odessa are still part of Ukraine. Putin may face coup after all if this happens.

I watched basically everthing from Scott Ritter since 2022. I can remember A & Q where he got very upset and aggressiv wirh a caller. Ritter claimed Odessa is a russian city and russia will not stop until it belings to russia again. I wonder if he himself remembers what he said.

One small correction from what I know having heard Alexander Mercouris on the Russian economy: Inflation is not 21% but 9%. 21% is the interest rates increased recently by the Federal bank of Russia so as to prevent an overheating of the Russian economy. God bless you all. Thank you Scot for everything and the interviewer as well. May God's peace and truth come to all the embattled places
