Urban Meyer doesn't get enough credit as a coach. 2 National Titles at Florida and 1 at Ohio State. Miami offered Nick Saban a job, and Alabama hired Mike Shula who was a hell of a recruiter, not a great coach. Mike Shula wasn't Alabama first choice, it was an offensive coordinator from LSU who had been passed up for the LSU job by Les Miles, Jimbo Fisher. If Jimbo Fisher becomes Alabama's head coach then I don't believe they're looking for a coach 2 years later. Jimbo Fisher wouldn't have had losing seasons at Alabama. Now before we get all happy I think it would have been harder to get Tim Tebow if Jimbo Fisher had recruited him to Alabama. Mike Shula and Tim Tebow had a great relationship but Jimbo would have been sitting right next to Urban Meyer as this guy is a must-get. Mike Shula didn't look at Tim Tebow as a program changer. Nick Saban was at Miami making 5.5 million a year, and Alabama offered him 40 million for 8-year deal with a 10 million buyout. At the time it was the most money any coach as ever been offered. Nick Saban new that Miami offer max money of 25 million. If he resign to 4 year deal for 40 million that is 10 million a year. Nick Saban didn't go Alabama for the money. Miami offered him a 25 million dollar signing bonus. This for a guy who just had 7-9, 9-7 record back to back. Miami was strong on Nick Saban. Another star coach who was also in the running for Alabama job, Brian Kelly? At the time an unknown but they were high on him before hiring Mike Shula.
