I love turtles. I enjoy the soothing feel and educational entertainment you offer. Thank you my new friend. Amazing video. Well put together. Ten to 20 years before they can lay eggs. Never knew. Adorable baby turtles.

I love turtles too and we captured footage of a sea turtle leaving her nest this spring. It was very exciting to see her and we felt very lucky to have that footage to share with our friends. We spend time in Fla and Va so there is a variety of the wildlife and historical places we visit- thanks so much for watching Wendy- looking forward to getting to know you 😊😊

Hey there John👋 I’m glad you enjoyed this one. I was worried it would come off too educational and not much fun to watch. Thanks so much for commenting my friend- I’ll be by to see you soon and get caught up in what I’ve missed. We have been helping with Grape harvest at the winery about 2 days a week and just finished picking the last of them today 😅

I always thought turtles were one of the cooler species on the planet.....so weird when you think about em lol. Not too familiar with the Gopher Turtles......they are BIG !! Great video Memaw, awesome facts and presentation. Huge thumbs up and best wishes my friend, cheers :)

Yes they are cool Warren and they are mostly in the southern US. They do get pretty big. Cars are a big problem for them because they often build their burrows right along roadways. They tend to walk in the roads a lot so you have to keep an eye out for them. We saw one tipped on its side one day and it was stuck - unable to get itself turned back over so we stopped and tipped it back flat on its belly. They are everywhere in Florida 😊😊

Hi Memaw! Lots of fun facts about the gopher turtle! Do you see them often then? It's interesting that they will take a different length of time to mature in different regions- I hope that they can stay protected and increase in numbers! I appreciate that they are a keystone species and many other animals benefit from a healthy gopher turtle population! :) 👍👍
@MemawsMatters Жыл бұрын
We do see them very often when we are in our location in Florida Jennifer - there are at least 7 burrows in a 1/8 mile stretch of road we take walks on. I would say they are increasing in numbers. I focus on sharing info like this with people so they are just aware of how to help the animals - I like your channel content on that and the flowers 😊😊

@@MemawsMatters Good new there are quite a lot of turtles near you! I would really enjoy seeing g them in person- but who know when I’ll visit Florida? Thanks for sharing in your video! I’m happy you like the nature and flowers I find in our area- always great to see animals in their natural habitat!

Interesting info about the prehistoric time period. Loved the video section of the Gopher turtles in the burrow. So sad that they are endangered since they have been in the world so long. Takes a long time to reach maturity to reproduced so can see why theiy're endangered. You gave us so much great info about these amazing animals. Gus is something else. He looks really good for his age.
@MemawsMatters2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I couldn’t believe how many mosquitoes were in that burrow! I hope they don’t get but lots by them. I would like to go see Gus but that’s a long way to drive… I was surprised he was at a zoo that far north too. Thanks for watching 😊😊😊

Super interesting facts. Lots to learn about the gopher turtle. Really find that sex determination fact interesting. Who knew? Also think it's crazy how long they can live. Do you not kind of want to visit the almost 100 year old turtle? That's an awful long drive, though. Great video!
@MemawsMatters2 жыл бұрын
I didn’t know that either Felix about temp determining sex. They live longer than most people don’t they? I would like to see Gus too but that is a long way to go. I also didn’t think they lived that far north either so I thought it was strange they have him in Nova Scotia 🤔 Thanks for watching friend and I’ll talk to you again soon
