I work too much and need to pay more attention to off time! I live 200 yards from the Santa Fe on the High Springs/Fort White border so it's 7 maybe 8 miles to this park and I've never been there. I have paddled the Santa Fe many times though, putting in at High Springs to home in Ft White. I gotta get out more thanks for the motivation Cliff!. ;

I never thought I would see a traffic jam on the river, 45 years ago it was pristine and wild, even 20 years ago it was not so awfully crowded. progress is in the eye of the beholder's wallet.

I hear ya! On one hand, I love to see people getting out in nature and off their sofa’s and video games! On the other hand, I hate it when super large crowds do not respect the environment and trash it! Whenever I do rivers like this, I always make sure to do on weekdays when the people are a minimum.

Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park, I filled up an insulated cup above the spring. Tasted like water (better than the water at my house) and didn't make me sick.

That’s great to hear Joshua! Gilchrist Springs is on my list to get to. Are there a lot of paddling opportunities there? What is the paddling distance?
@cabledaug373 жыл бұрын
@@KayakCliff. It isn't very far from the spring to the santa fe river, maybe 10 min paddle. I paddled from the spring to the Santa Fe and then headed up stream toward Poe spring. I didn't make it. The current was a little strong for my inflatable, so I turned around and floated back down to the springs.

@KayakCliff2 жыл бұрын
Hi 👋 there @dustytoes100 no, on that trip. I did not see any alligators 🐊 they are there, I just did not come across any on that trip. Last week, I went down the rainbow River, which is not far from there. I saw a nice one on there.

Hi Cliff! Great video! Which Jackson Kayak model are you using in this video? I currently have a Sea Eagle 393RL. I really like it, but the seat is unbearably uncomfortable for 6+ hour days, and I haven't found anything to make it more so. I may have to return it, so I'm looking for something different. The cockpit looks a littlle bigger on this Jackson (which I need--my smaller dog kayaks with me, and I don't fold as easily as I once did--LOL). Or if you have any other kayak recommendations (with larger cockpits but not sit on top), I'd love to hear them. Thank you and happy paddling!
@KayakCliff2 жыл бұрын
Hi AllonsY ! - Actually, I’m getting ready to sell that Jackson Journey 14 (not made any more). I had two, then sold one last Fall and now getting rid of the other. Truth is, I’m going all in with inflatable Sea Eagles. I love the versatility of how you can deflate them and transport easily. Plus, they are so light to carry, and they hold twice the weight of a hard shell kayak. Not to fear with how your seat becomes uncomfortable! I have sciatic nerve issues and I could not imagine paddling 6 hours, without getting up to stand every 90 minutes. I believe the Sea Eagle is a very good seat, it just needs more cushioning. I love the back support it gives. What has helped me is a seat cushion like you find for boats. It elevates you about 2’’ and provides nice cushioning. With the elevation, your center of gravity is higher. Also a nice cushion (probably the best) is the Purple Mattress car / office seat cushion like they sell in the purple mattress stores. Here’s a link - purple.com/seat-cushions Lot’s of companies sell knockoffs. I think with the right cushioning, you’ll find the RazorLite perfect for you. It’s the only kayak I can find that is 35 lbs. Is very fast and also carries 500 lbs. Perfect for letting a dog run around in. Good Luck - let me know how you make out!
