The round fish you were describing were probably Permit. They are in the pompano family and are commonly found around the bridges down there

What a fun way to get em at the bridges. Great job. Looks like a lotta fun. Great assortment on artificials. Back in 2002 I was fishing with my buddy who’s a charter fisherman out of north Miami. I would go with him when I had off from work just to help him make money. One day I caught a 29lb yelllw Jack. For shots snd giggles, I checked the record book that night snd found out that I broke the record by 10 lbs. I called him immediately to ask where the fish went. He assured me that it was “sushi” by that point. Lol oh well, at least I have pictures of it. Keep up the great work.

That one jack you called a blue runner is actually a Barjack if I'm not mistaken or it might just be a nickname. (9:00) They're pretty rare, with exceptional eyesight and are very cautious to even eat live bait. That was a nice catch on lure. I caught one when I was a kid and it had a knarly parasite crawl out of mouth that looked like a sandflea (mole crab) from hell. I haven't targeted them since. I know they like sardines, not nearly as fond of pilchards, will eat crustaceans with the right presentation... And love structure like pilings. They use the pilings to forage by quickly zipping around them and catching baits off guard. It's pretty interesting when you see them because they are almost always in pairs or triples. They are excellent at using each other to corner baits and that's why I believe they're so weary towards fisherman but I know they're eyesight is nothing less than incredible. At first I thought this could have been a rainbow runner but I remember correctly a rainbow runner has longer, more bullet shaped appearance. But they do start out kind of shaped like that so if I'm wrong stand me corrected.
@flyfishizationjones4940
@flyfishizationjones4940 2 жыл бұрын
The parasite you saw that looked like a sand flea from hell (😂) sounds exactly like a parasite I read about recently. I don’t remember the proper name, but they attach to a fish’s gill plate and a mature female will migrate to the fish’s tongue where it gets nourishment by tapping into the blood vessels in the tongue. The tongue eventually dies off from lack of circulation and parasite attaches to the remaining “tongue stump”, effectively replacing the fish’s tongue! It then gets nourishment orally from whatever the fish eats. Fish can live out their lives mostly unaffected (aside from scaring the crap out of a few fishermen here and there). Look up “fish tongue parasite” for some gnarly pics.
@BC-nx6fl

@@flyfishizationjones4940 THATS EXACTLY WHAT IT WAS AND WHERE IT WAS. It looked like a "Predator" or "alien" version of a male sandflea.
