Hey Jay, new subscriber here. Really enjoy your roadside/abandoned videos. Surprised to find out that you were Hoosier born like myself (younger me spent time in Springport, In which is about 10 min from Spiceland). Teenage years was spent in Lee County, FL before moving back to central Indiana. If you get back to Indiana I'd love to buy you and your wife dinner (I'm the proprietor of Pizza King of Elwood). Keep up the great work my friend.

I lived in Gainesville and I had a friend who lived in Starke. I used to pass through Waldo to get to her house! I always made sure I was doing the speed limit. One time it was a holiday and the cop was waiting for people to go faster than 15 mph, near a school. School was out but the light was still flashing! I was so glad when I heard they stopped them from passing out so many tickets!!

When we lived in Ocala from 1979-1987 we drove through Waldo many times heading to family gatherings in Jacksonville. We never stopped and explored, not even the Flea Market. Thankfully we never got a speeding ticket. Between Waldo and Starke there was a place I always wanted to stop and take a picture of but never did. It was a motel that had a sign that read Motel and Taxidermy. That always sounded like a rather risky place to stay!

i go to that Flea Market all the time, and the Antique store as well, buying the greatest priced stuff i personally have ever seen, i come away with something EVRY TIME. ..AND..also i live 25 minutes away here in Gainesville Florida, and it is really easy for me to pick up and go on the week ends, and to that Antique Mall you were in is supposedly HAUNTED..did you feel any thing. i also with a heavy heart would like to dedicate this video to my Girlfriends mother who passed away today, your intro music was very sad sounding and brought me to tears, i will always remember this video on the day i got the call, thank you for you visit to my area .

I used to stop at that former Hardee's in Waldo all the time when I would either go to the Flea Market or on my way to Jacksonville &/or Georgia (I live in Gainesville). It was always my go-to on Christmas morning when headed to see my family in Savannah. It closed in either 2015 or 2016. I'd then stop sometimes at the one in Starke (rhymes with Park). I remember the old speed trap billboards as well when I first moved down here from GA. I was waiting to see if you would have headed into Gainesville, as the original Sonny's BBQ location is on Waldo Road (FL-24), past the Gainesville Airport a bit on the right. Maybe next time.

I grew up in Gainesville (still here) and going through Waldo (to the Waldo Flea Market) every weekend with my dad is embedded in my childhood. I remember taking one of our family members to the Amtrak station there because they were on their way to Miami in the mid 90s. So many memories! I remember when that town was actually thriving with Feed stores and boiled peanut and fruit stands. Also...you were THAT close to the original Sonny's BBQ. It's on Waldo Road in Gainesville! Next time!

Oh man, wish you had looked at the expiration date on that dip in the fridge at Annie's so we'd know when the last people were there. I'd wager a cash bar (no pun) is one reason they closed. That is too tempting for a lot of bartenders. You can still find little bars in lots of places on the side of the road, but I'm not sure I'd go in, but I don't drink, so I wouldn't. Thanks for the tour!

Great video and so much included that is so interesting. I believe the owner of Annie's was killed in a car wreck near Oklawaha a while back. These old towns are special for memories of days long ago. Also during the 1800s, so many babies and children died because of different diseases. Sad times for the families that lost their young children. Thank you Tampa Jay for this video

34:17 that is a beautyberry shrub. The berries are very colorful and ripen around September. I've heard that the berries could be made into a jelly, but are not good raw. Birds like them though. Not sure about your part of Florida, but these are really common here in northeast Florida.

Your radar detector would go off as you passed the city limits and change of speed sign. There would be a police car parked in front of the station and usually a cop in a chair out front. As you approached the bcop car lights came on and you'd be signaled to pull over. Yep, speed trap
