Gilchrist Blue Springs is the newest park in the Florida State Park system, and it's right in the middle of Florida. The deep blue spring is crystal clear and is amazing for snorkeling and paddling. It gets busy on the weekends, but we still found a way to have the spring all to ourselves. When the spring was too busy, we enjoyed the campground and found a nice hike on the nature trail that took us through a shaded, windy path of huge, ancient cypress trees. It's no wonder Gilchrist Blue Springs became a Florida State Park, it is absolutely beautiful here. Hope you enjoy the episode!

I used to camp there years ago when it was privately owned. There was a platform about 10 above the water level just above the boil that we used to dive off of into the water. Also there was a boardwalk that led from the spring all the way to the river. There was another spring to the left of the spring as you are facing in the direction of the river, that was about 30 to 40 feet wide and has a small stream as its spring run. Over the edge of this small spring was a small deck about 10 feet high that we used to fish from. FYI, for those that don't know, the water in the spring is 72 degrees year round.

Wow! We wish we could have seen that in person! That must have been so cool to be able to jump off the platform into the water. When we went it looked like it was under a lot of construction so it will be interesting to see what they do to the swimming area. We loved it though. What a beautiful place to grow up around! 💖

Same! My friends and I used to compete to see who could do the best dives off of that platform. I'm honestly glad the state runs it now because there wasn't very much thought for safety. My friend and I once had to rescue a kid who was alone and struggling to swim halfway down that boardwalk. Even if there aren't lifeguards, there will at least be trained staff to respond to emergencies and to coordinate additional rescue efforts if need be. Great video!

I’ve lived in FL 25 yrs & from what I saw this was a quiet day in the springs! 😂 And these people seemed to be having fun w their noise which is ok! Sometimes when people annoy us (like it seemed you were annoyed by the people so much) it is the best opportunity to learn most about ourselves … and the universe blessed you with those caterpillar babies may be a sign. You guys maybe ready to have babies and maybe the universe saying it’s time?! Life is what you make it girl. Chill. Love & peace to you! (Spelling edits!)

We go to a place called Horseneck Beach and the only problem is that sometimes it is overloaded with seaweed. I have been looking into Fort Lauderdale as a place to live. I very much want to move to Florida! My concern about Key West is health care and the remoteness of it to services. You would have to come up to New England to ever bump into me - at least until I get enough money together to move to Florida! (hey, we do have gorgeous fall foliage in October!) (:

If we're ever in New England we'll have to send you a message and meet up. That would be amazing! 😊

We go here almost every weekend! Early in the day is the best time to go when it's not packed during the week. Unfortunatley there's some damage/risk of landslide that happened during the last hurricane, so the hillside has black tarps to stop the erosion, and the retainer wall is roped off, which cuts out the major portion of the beach area. The main benefit of this spring over all the others in the area (Head/Poe/Rum Island/Ginney) is that it has a sloping beach which is great for little kids, like we have!
@PSAdventures
@PSAdventures Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much for sharing! That makes a lot of sense now why we saw the black tarps. The shallow beach was really nice and we saw a lot of families enjoying the area. It's reminds us a little of Alexander Springs where you can easily walk right into the beach. Definitely agree on going either early or late to avoid the crowd. Thanks for watching! ❤️❤️❤️

Awesome video! I love that place. The spring is so beautiful, and they used to have a deck platform over the spring, but I’m glad they took it down giving the spring its natural look. There’s other beautiful springs on the property as well that I’ve snorkeled. The last time I was there in 2020, they didn’t allow anybody to swim in the other springs. Yeah, you can rent canoes and kayaks there as well. There’s springs all down the Santa Fe. I love Rum Island as well, which is a short distance BY WATER from there. A lot of the OLD GROWTH cypress trees were logged out in the late 1800s-early 1900s around the state, but there’s some that still remain like Aric. I was there when it was a privately owned as well.

Oh wow. We heard that the boardwalk had been taken down because of the damage from the hurricane. That's interesting though! We looked up older photos and we could see the old walkway into the water and all the way to the Santa Fe river. We loved seeing all the huge cypress trees! It felt a bit like being in the huge redwood forests out west. You're right though. This spring is beautiful! The water was the clearest right at the spring head. It'd be cool to explore more of the area! 🌊

@PSAdventures
@PSAdventures Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for the love! As you can tell, we love the springs! We mostly prefer the inflatable paddleboard because it's so easy to carry around in the van, and they're also pretty reliable these days. We like being closer to the water, getting on and off of the board, and just simply hanging a leg out in the water sometimes. But it may depend on where you're mostly going to paddle because we almost never take out the paddleboard in murky waters, especially in Florida. Without knowing what's lurking below, like alligators or fallen trees... a hard kayak would be best for those waters, in our opinion. Hope that helps! 💓

Hi! Sounds like those would have been fun! Well, when we visited, the boardwalk and platform were gone and there was construction going on near what used to be stairs leading to the water.
