Once their wings get wet they can't fly. That's why we see them standing drying their wings out wide

Really 😂? They float on the water....they dive under water to catch fish...they fly away whenever they choose....with "wet" wings. But yes, they do fly to anywhere they can, to open their wings to dry.

You maybe thinking of anhingas...seen them many times along US 41 drying their wings out. Cormorants are more "waterproof".🤣 They do require a long distance to take off when they are ready to leave. Anhingas are more solitary and cormorants are found in flocks. We live on a lake in FLA that has both birds...amazing to watch them dive for fish.
