Florida Sheriff Execute PIT on Fleeing Suspect

On March 25th, 2022, at approximately 11:20 AM, a deputy from the Indian River County Sheriff's Office was informed by a detective about a gray, older-style Suburban SUV that was fleeing from St. Lucie County Sheriff deputies towards 27th Avenue at the south county line. The deputy spotted the vehicle driving recklessly northbound on 27th Avenue, moving into oncoming traffic lanes without any police pursuit nearby. When the suspect noticed a patrol car with emergency lights, he altered his path and eventually made a U-turn upon detecting the deputy's marked car, prompting the deputy to engage in pursuit.

The suspect should be liable for restitution of the damaged police cars. It shouldnt be the city/county finacial cost. Felony evading should carry 5 year mandatory sentence with no early realease. Drugs are so wide spread in Martin, St Lucie, and Indian River county. Need more severe prosecution for these offenses. It is just appalling that the dealers are able to get away with it. Born and raised in these counties. My son was in 10th grade in St. Lucie County, we moved to Michigan. One week after we moved, 2 of his friends from school were killed in an Auto Accident on I95 as they were skipping classes.

Actually, many unlicensed drivers are far safer drivers. A license doesn't make someone a good driver, it just makes them a legal driver. Not having a license, for many anyway, is incentive enough to wear seatbelts, obey speed limits, pay more attention to avoid collisions. The problem isn't the license. The problem is the criminal mindset. The lack of license is just one symptom of that.

Arkansas is amongst the poorest and most backward locales in the US. The ASP simply does not care about public safety. Anywhere else--for the most part--pits are limited to 45 mph.

Don’t say it’s not possible because I’ve seen first hand my father do a PIT Maneuver at 110MPH at Forsyth Law Enforcement Training Center here in Georgia years ago. He was the lead instructor for the EVOC Course and the PIT/TVI Instructor that taught it to our states law enforcement officers and at the Federal Level as well and it was something to see lol. He was a Police Officer for 38 years and was an absolute master at teaching LEO’s on how to drive lol. At his memorial service a few of his old officers said that when we would be in PIT training we would all get a little bit scared whenever Lt. Olson would come into view in our rear view/door mirrors because we knew what was about to happen because he was not big in classroom training or telling someone what to do. No no no Lieutenant preferred a more hands on approach meaning he would be the cat and we would be the mouse that was about to be completely destroyed lol. It was like looking in your rear view mirror and seeing the black number 3 Chevrolet Monte Carlo because your dad was like Dale Sr. Who would say “I just wanted to rattle your cage a little” 😂😂 He had preformed a few dozen read world PIT Maneuvers during his career and he was a absolute legend.

PITs at speeds over 45 are considered lethal force. The driver wasn't wanted on any felony charges, and presented no threat to officers at any point. Lethal force wouldn't be justified.

Excellent communication and team work. Congrats on getting your guy. These are great to watch, but bitter sweet at the same time ... Ppl choose lives of crime, then flee to escape consequences of their own actions, jeopardizing the lives if countless citizens, not to mention the lives and safety of LEOs. Disgusting that so many lives placed in jeopardy, PLUS the cost of damage to equipment. Two vehicles here with severe damage, the number of officers required to end the chase ....
