The officer intended to shoot over top of monitor. Rifles are usually sighted at 100 yards. Being this close (about 5-7 yards) the barrel is about 2 inches below the optic so when he sights through the optic over the top of the monitor, the bullet's path is 2 inches below. You wouldn't want the path of bullet to be altered as it passes through monitor.

My wife also worked at a Savings and Loan, and 5 guys drove a van up to the front door and ran in with guns in hand. A couple of them jumped the counter and one of them yanked my wife up off the floor and held a gun to her head, then handed her a pillowcase and had her go around to each of the teller's vaults to get their money. She was incredibly shaken up from this, of course. About 3 months later, since our son was in martial arts classes she signed up as well. Her training didn't cause her to believe she could do something about a robber, but just restored confidence in herself, and enabled her to return to work. It cured her PTSD. I'm sorry you went through that. Because of my wife I know what you went through. It's a horrible thing. BTW, all the robbers got caught and sent to prison. One was just released a year or two ago, and we just got a letter today about another one being released. The robbery happened in 1994. They had committed other robberies as well.

I'm sure he's good, but shooting though a computer monitor is dumb. I've seen a tiny twig deflect my bullet a couple inches. He thought he was shooting over it. But his scope is about 2.5 inches above the barrel. At that range, he hit 2.5 inches below where he was aiming. Very lucky it didn't go really bad. Glad it worked

As a sniper, you would never want to shoot through a monitor or anything else because it could cause the bullet to take an unexpected route leaving the obstruction, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.
