His grandmother has detached herself from the crimes her grandson committed. In the interrogation video, she discovered he did it, and encouraged him to confess. Since then, she probably wishes she didn’t. It’s unfortunate that she doesn’t want to “lose him”, but he is responsible for the choices he made.

@ When I was around 11-12, and my cousin was 14, we made a cement batter and put it on a guy’s truck. We thought it was funny. The day after, we saw the guy talking to my older brother (was around 20 yo) that some mischievous kids had done this to his car and that it needed painting again. We quietly snuck away as neither my brother nor the guy knew that it was the two of us who did it. After a while, I told my brother and he told me that what I did was wrong and asked me how I’d feel if someone did that to our dad. I felt so ashamed back then. So yeah, you can do crazy things at that age and later when you grow up you realize that you F’ed up.

I agree. I think the reason she said it was during the interrogation of this kid, the detective questioning him kept saying, “I really think you just panicked.” I think that is where that idea came from. She was drawing from what was said during the interrogation. She (the grandma) was truly instrumental in getting this kid to confess. She didn’t try to make any excuses for him. She didn’t try to defend any actions. She didn’t try to get him to quit talking. She was truly devastated by what he did to this poor woman. To me, the grandma is also a victim. Not to the same extent as the 91-year-old. Not even close. However, imagine finding out your son or grandson committed a heinous act like this! I think she is conflicted inside over knowing that her grandson has 2 sides. One side is the grandson she knows and loves on a level that no one else does. On the other side is the sexual predator who violently assaulted a vulnerable 91-year-old woman who had befriended the boy. I can’t imagine the emotional trauma something like this would cause. I’m sure she blames herself to a certain extent as well. At the end of the day, it is nobody’s fault but his. He is responsible. He is a monster, and no amount of prison time, therapy, or love will change that. If given half a chance, he will offend again. Thank God the Judge gave him a lengthy sentence. You can tell he feels nothing about the situation. Very disturbing.

I raised my son without help from my ex-husband (who left his family for a stripper/exotic dancer) however my son has never done drugs or alcohol and finished college, as well as, has always been and is gainfully employed. The defense using the excuse that he did not have his father in his life is weak... and what gets me is the defense always lay out all the mitigating factors with many excuses and then, most always state "this is not an excuse", well why are you asking us to consider it then? That grandmother is a very HUGE part of his issues! THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR WHAT HE HAS DONE!!!

Amen. Such a weak excuse. I raised two boys on my own. One is 8 The other is turning 21 not on drugs doesn't drink alcohol and is in culinary school. Does not speak to his father AT ALL. You can still raise good strong men it just means your entire life is no longer your own and you no longer matter AT ALL. Problem is these women are too selfish to even ponder that concept.

If he doesn’t know why he raped an elderly lady, he can’t guarantee he won’t do it again. All the things he did to rape her were very deliberate and demented. He knew very well that he had done something wrong. He knew she was elderly and thought she’d be weak, so he probably thought he was going to hurt her worse or even kill her. He doesn’t need to be out on the street. Sadly for the grandmother, she will probably be gone when he gets out. If not, she will be the approximate age as the woman he assaulted

I do not cheat or lie. I hate everything that is unlawful. Maybe because my mother took us to church, I fear the Lord’s wrath more than anything. But I don’t think none of us ever thought on going crazy. The most we did was to go out at an age my mother worry about us. But we would go to places where she knows where we were. Also, we (my sister and I) saw people using drugs, but we didn’t know what it was, lol. So, I guess God did looked after us.
