We lived in Florida in the 80's.... it was normal then.... not so built up.... no extremes.... just a great place to be!!!.... Season passes at the parks we're $50-$60 a year.... Beaches were safe.... no viruses or bacterias.... and, the oyster bars on the beach were the stuff of dreams.... OMG!!!.... oysters and bloody marys with the sounds if the surf.... many happy evenings spent there ❤ ....the Courtney Campbell Causeway was just a strip of land through the water.... people partying on the sides.... picnics and music.... very beachnic..... The water used to just wash over the whole road during storms.... it used to be a very ethereal place to be.... in the 80's.... The stuff of dreams, it was.....

Seems like these days changing insurance companies often gets you better rates instead of sticking with one long term because there isn't any benefit in doing that anymore. I have been with Geico for a long time and no tickets for 20+ years yet for my used car liability is $125 a month! Ridiculous. I could by another used car in no time with payments like that.

We were told to find another company. Now they’re taking on more because private companies are dropping policies in Fl again. Every governor has said that they are going to fix the problem…not one has done so . Or even tried to as far as I can tell.

@@beverly719 only way to win is not to play. We are looking at ways to pay off the mortgage faster. Anything else, is just people treading water these days. Can we pay it off right now, no but it is tying into how we make descrions going forward such as keeping an old car until the brakes fall off. We also buy furniture that lasts and typically most people don’t want because it’s old. Once we get what we need, we are going to hyper focus on paying the home off. I did my calculation on the bank website and if we double our payments for seven years, the house will be paid off. We are changing the way we look at things.

Our car insurance rose $400 a month. It went from $4,000 to $7,000 for six months. We have USAA as well. We called and got It reduced to a $200 increase by looking for more ways to save. When we asked them why?, they talked about Florida being a high lawsuit state and a ton of insured drivers on our roads. We pay$1100 a month in car insurance starting in April. I do have younger drivers. But what is so so funny is my 17 year old is wanting to get his drivers liscense as well and wants to know when can he start. 😢

USAA pulled that shit on us as well. No accident or anything for 10 years. Went up 59% coming in April. I am about ready to register them out of state since we own a business there if we dont get this much lower. (USAA charges almost 60% less there) USAA states that the rates for our bracket in Jacksonville. Like, we are talking a boat payment now or a small mortgage..They said it could be because we have cars that are higher risk or our credit score changed. Either way they had no idea how they this makes any sense. I am thinking about if we can go with bonding as our wealthy neighbor does, this car insurace in FL is unreal.

I'm 42 still have high insurance friends of mine drive 80k trucks and wives drive BMW all newer pay the same for full coverage as I do for liability i have a 20 plus year old vehicle I have no tickets in probably 18 years or longer its nuts. I'll do what my cousin does has had Virginia tags they don't require proof of insurance she hasn't had insurance probably since 1999 or 2000

JUST FYI. I spoke with a staff member at a few lawmakers offices in my district. I asked if I could set up a meeting about discussing a proposed bill to help consumers on auto insurance in the state. All of them asked me what I wanted and I told them and they all shot me down. ALL THE LAWMAKERS want to cut coverage, like PIP, hoping the insurance companies will lower premiums. What will really happen is Floridians will have less of a very important coverage and still pay out the nose. I PROPOSTED TO THEM OVER THE PHONE they need a bill that requires all auto insurance carriers in the state to have one price, set by the state, for FL state minimum coverage, with 10/20 bod and uninsured/underinsured, and that price is tied to that state poverty level. Therefore, everyone will be able to afford insurance and everyone will be insured, bring rates down. If consumers want more coverage, they pay more, Secondly in the bill, I proposed that medical billing, when it comes to auto insurance, will need to be approved by the state and have set pricing, and required to be approved by the state, just like insurance premiums. That is so hospitals and doctors can't just charge what they want, in regards to an auto insurance claim. That will also bring premiums down. NOPE!!! No one wanted to talk to me further. No one cared.

Before the pandemic they were in the office every day and commuting every day. Now it's maybe 2 or 3 days max for them. The service industry employees mostly worked throughout the pandemic, same with healthcare workers and teachers (at least in FL) so their commutes haven't really changed.
