When I woke up this morning, I had one goal for my first trip offshore in my boat. The goal was to catch something! Well we traveled out to West Rock and it got a little nautical but it wasn’t too bad. The fuel gauge was malfunctioning so we made the call to turn around and come back, just in case, we wanted to be safe and not have to call sea tow on first trip for fuel. I owe a lot of thanks to my future “BIL” Cory Norville who took me out and gave me the basics. He helped me with the weather and other odds and ends. I also want to thank Florida Sport Fishing Television on KZbin. Capt Mike walks you through how to set up a spread and what tackle to use. Always wanted to fish offshore but never knew how to start. Chase whatever you feel you can reach and go full steam ahead thanks again to these two and also myself for all the research I have put in. I think all in all we went out about 30 to 35 miles. Via Facebook! Thanks Capt. Mike check out my FTO photos

When yu sit and get thought yu have more understanding of why things happen like they do.... One time I was trolling lures and fish came hit my lure so hard such that I felt I'm gonna loose all my line within a minute as reel was psychoticly sceaming...Guess what I paniced and stopped the boat.. still fish was moving very fast peeling line off the reel but eventually hooks fell off the fish and I lost the fish... Now as I was sitting here listening to this seminar its like yu talking to me because the errors I did were exactly what yu covered .. Thanks a lot for this seminar I'm looking forward to listen to more of them.. Yu are well vest and strategic... I hope I meet the same fish that escaped I will teach it a lesson after this seminar!!!!!

Can you troll for wahoo at night or before sun comes up on your way to the fishing ground?
@brennanmahoney95917 жыл бұрын
I have been interested in live baiting bonita and black fin tuna for wahoo. I understand the brindle method, I have done it with circle hooks but do you know how they are doing it for wahoo. Is there a singer? Is it just a king mackerel rig scaled up? If it is what size hooks should I use. Thank you for any advice you give.
@FloridaSportFishing7 жыл бұрын
Yes, a standard stringer rig but larger, depending on size of bullet you may want to bump up to 9/0 hook instead of 7/0. With goggle-eye size bullets, you can get away with same rig.

Wow! Thank you for the great seminar Captain Mike. I just moved to Islamorada and I have one question: How are you tying the mono fishing line to the wind-on leader? Can't wait to try your techniques. Cheers!
@FloridaSportFishing7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. Double the end of the mono with a Bimini Twist or Spider Hitch, and attach the wind-on leader with a simple loop-to-loop connection. If you're not sure how to do it, there are simple instructions directly on back of Diamond Fishing Products Wind-On Leaders package. - Capt Mike

Great video ..i fish out of Haulover planning the fish two rods with Zuri Bonitas. should i used the same size lead weight on both rods? and how far back each rod..thank you..
@FloridaSportFishing7 жыл бұрын
If you're going to fish two rods with Yo Zuri Bonitos, I would suggest one with no weight way back, like at least 300 ft. and one shorter with a 16 oz. trolling lead. You can however, fish them both with no added weight.

15 knots - DO you need to adjust that speed for current? If you have a current of 3 knots going south to north are you traveling 15 knots GPS speed regardless of whether you are traveling North or South? Great Video, thanks for sharing!
@FloridaSportFishing7 жыл бұрын
Yes, we're constantly adjusting speed based on conditions, wind, current, sea state, etc.Unless its flat calm with no current, its never set it and forget it.
@vbritt39907 жыл бұрын
But how do you determine the 'right' speed? are you going just slow enough to keep the lures in the water?

Juan Tambolini try "running and gunning as well". Ride around and look out for debris floating and then drop your lines in the water a few hundred yards away and troll past the debris. Keep your eyes open for birds as well. Mix up your routine and you'll increase your odds.
@christianmatson97128 жыл бұрын
+FloridaSportFishing when you said to drop down a heavy diamond jig and burn it back up were you still talking about fishing around debris? So are you saying that I should try dropping the jig down next to the pallet or on drop-offs etc?
@FloridaSportFishing7 жыл бұрын
Yes, when you stumble across offshore structure, drop a jig deep and burn it back.

Miguel Andres, that very true 😂. I'm from Aguadilla and there days that the only thing you catch are big barracudas. I usually go 5 to 7mile out of el desecheo island and I always catch 1 or 2 wahoo between 35 and 80 lbs.

@victors89248 жыл бұрын
Yes sir, but you have to be there very early before the sunrise. I usually start trolling .5 mile before reaching the north side of el desecheo and I usually that where I catch my first one, I usually use the # 30 white and red rapala.

Can you please explain the wind on leader in more detail.
@FloridaSportFishing6 жыл бұрын
At the end of your monofilament running line, you create a double line with a Bimini twist or similar knot. This is where you'll connect your wind-on leader with a loop to loop connection, a cat's paw. The wind-on leader is typically heavier than the main running line and may be 25-150 ft. or more in length depending on application. With the loop to loop connection, you can wind it right on the reel as the knot will slip through the guides. For further explanation call me 954.942.7261 - Capt Mike

Hey Mike, jut came across the channel. Can you increase the video content of the fishing trips? We want to hear the info, but most people would rather see on the water footage while you're speaking, even just backwash trolling. (no offense). p.s. Hey, do you remember that graphic designer from Ma that moved to Florida and offered to work for free, and languished for 3 months butchering sales calls?

It was back when the magazine was getting ready to go from 6 issues to 12 a year, and still called South Florida Sport Fishing. Small office in Pompano beach with techno music playing. I discovered the Florida Sport Fishing TV videos shortly after my request for fishing footage during the seminar videos by the way. Actually planning on targeting wahoo here in Mass later this summer southeast of the Vineyard around the high flyers where we catch small mahi. Been reading that people have been getting some the past couple seasons when jigging deep or fast trolling those pots.@@FloridaSportFishing
