Wow! Was this seminar ever helpful. My best friend just bought an offshore boat and we are just getting into the gear needed and evaluating the gear we already have and how to set it up. So helpful!!! Thanks!

Isn't the distinction between the two ratings on a single rod the power vs the action, so the rod as a whole is medium-heavy but the action is fast?

1:09:00 braid vs mono : wouldn’t mono be best when night fishing for yellow tail on a head boat.. ? Or even on your own boat at night ?

Out of curiosity at the statement in 1:07:40 ("are you gonna put 25lbs of drag onto 40lb line?"). I wonder what the problem with this is. I see people keep saying to put their drags at about 1/3 of the breaking strength of the line, but why? Assuming you're good with your knots, and dont waste too much on the knots, retaining, say, 90% of the strength of the line (90% of 40lb is 36lb), what's the problem of putting 25lbs of drag on 36lb line?
@FloridaSportFishing2 жыл бұрын
All about mechanics and numbers here. While logically what you are saying seems to make sense, its just not how the game is played. If you apply 36 pounds of drag on 40 lb test line, you will experience premature tackle failure. One of the connections will part, a hook will pull, something will fail. Stick with approx 1/3 breaking strength but dont hesitate pushing it up to 50% breaking strength if you really trust your connections/equipment, no more. I fish out of a kayak my self and hate shorter rods less then 7'7" and as long as a 8' rod depending on what I'm doing and what way I'm fishing

Captain Mike, can I order a custom rod made by Chaos? Their off the shelf rods are very fairly priced I think but I have had good experiences with Chaos and would like to order a custom rod.

Hi Captain. We have two Shimano Socorro reels. My question is what rods should I get. My brother and i plan to go jigging, fast and slow. Mostly fish 300-400 feet of sea. Can i use a slow pitch rod for fast jigging as well? Or would it be better to ge one slow pitch rod for slow jigging and another regular rod for fast jigging. Thank you
@FloridaSportFishing3 жыл бұрын
What size are reels? For best results, the two different applications require to different rods however its fishing and you do the best you can with what you have.
