Always awesome Mike! Talk to me about the wind on connection to the mainline. I have spliced my own wind ons for years but my main line has always been mono. When I tied a Bimini twist in my 80 pound spectra and did the cats paw it sure felt whimpy. I was afraid the spectra would cut my hollow braid under pressure. And I was not feeling confident with the Bimini twist in my main line. So I went with a direct tie from my mainline to the leader using a fg knot, and cinched it down super tight. Am I overthinking it?
@karimbadr2424 жыл бұрын
One of the better videos about daytime swordfish deep drop, I have a question though...do you splice the leader to the main with a knot or can use a swivel.

Thank you so much captain for detailed explanation. I m from Turkey and Noone knows about daytime swordfishing here! I tried about 5-6 times but still no bite. Generally we tried in 1800 ft, 150 ft of the bottom. These depths are generally mood here. Our ridges are generally around 900 ft, and we see sometimes big fish on our fisfinder 150 ft off the bottom at 900 ft! Should we try these depths? What is the minimum depths we should try for daytime swordfishing?
@FloridaSportFishing7 жыл бұрын
1600 to 2200 ft is best, with baits up to 200 ft off bottom. - Capt Mike

Thanks for putting this out it was great. You mentioned keeping the boat in gear while heading into the current to slow the drift. Would a sea anchor/drift sock accomplish the same effect?
@FloridaSportFishing6 жыл бұрын
Negative, the Gulf Stream current is running at approx 5 knots, you have to keep the boat running into it to slow your drift, a sea anchor wouldn't slow you down enough. - Capt Mike

Outstanding seminar Cap! I'll be down the Keys chasing sails in November. May have to stop off Hillsborough and try this. Been a dream of mine. But what do you do if you do catch that 500 pounder? Boat the fish? Get it out of the boat? Process it? Lots of contingencies. Need more seminars! Again, thanks for the great video and stay safe out there.

not all commercial fishermen are long liners there are a lot of commercial fishermen who use this exact same gear so it is very similar to commercial fishing
@alexdrapers17525 жыл бұрын
What makes it commercial for me is that you dont hand crank the fish. For resetting no problem to use the electric, but if you use it on the fish its not sportfishing

There’s all kinds for sure. But 2000 ft with 5 knots of current you don’t hand reel. That’s how we do it here. A bayliner lol. Hey I do it all in my j16 so more power to him. I high speed for wahoo. Reef fish. Deep drop. Bass fish lol. So it is what it is.
