First, I would like to apologize if the video quality and smoothness isn't the best. The sound on Premiere Pro kept glitching out when I was trying to edit this video, and as a result, I used Windows Video Editor to edit this, so I apologize for the quality and smoothness not being the best.
Anyways, I figured on this Good Friday, we needed to celebrate with something EPIC!!!! Located at the Historic Murchison Building in Wilmington, North Carolina, lies a VERY UNIQUE Elevator System!!! This is the Tallest Building in Downtown Wilmington, and it was built in 1914, Originally with Manually Controlled Otis Traction Elevators!!! However, in 1937, these elevators were Completely Modernized by Westinghouse, still Manually Controlled!!! (MANUAL Elevators replacing OLDER MANUAL Elevators, I've NEVER seen that before!!!!) And in 1973, ONE of the Elevators was Modernized AGAIN by Otis but Totally Automated with Lexan fixtures and this One elevator in the bank was since modded again with an ADAMS Slap On Mod in the 90s or 2000s with everything else from 1973 being retained. Keep in Mind only ONE Elevator in the building was Modded and Automated!!!! The OTHER Elevator is STILL ORIGINAL from the First Modernization done in 1937 by Westinghouse and is STILL MANUALLY CONTROLLED!!!! This is MY VERY FIRST MANUALLY CONTROLLED WESTINGHOUSE, My First Westinghouse to have filmed that was installed before the 60s, My SECOND MANUAL Elevator that ISN'T an OTIS, and also the NEWEST MANUAL I'VE EVER BEEN ON!!! I don't think anyone else has found a Manual installed after 1933 UNTIL NOW making this one of the LAST Manual Elevators EVER Installed, and I'VE NEVER SEEN THE KIND OF CRANK THIS THING HAS!!!! VERY VERY RARE!!!! And again, also VERY UNIQUE how it replaced an even OLDER MANUAL Otis Elevator from 1914!!!! The Westy remains TOTALLY ORIGINAL from the 1937 Mod, with the exception of the Cab, and the GAL JetPlus Call Stations!!!
Unfortunately, the owner told me I couldn't do a full ride on it, but at least I got some pictures and rode it down a couple floors!!! And I got a full ride on the Automatic, that was modded 3 TIMES, which while kind of unique in it's own way being on it's original Relay Logic Controller and having a VOICE which i never have seen before, was obviously boring in comparison to the Manual. LOL!!! And I wish the Lexan fixtures on it weren't replaced with Disgusting Adam's, but it is what it is!!
That all being said, enjoy the video of this VERY UNIQUE Elevator System in this BEAUTIFUL, HISTORIC Building!!!
Installed: 1914 (Manually Controlled Otis DC Traction)
Modernized:
1st Modernization: 1937 (Westinghouse with New DC Motors, New Controllers, Gate and Crank, STILL MANUALLY CONTROLLED, Done to both Elevators. Doors may or may not be left as is) (Seen in left elevator in this video)
2nd Modernization: 1973 (Done to Right Elevator ONLY, New Doors, New Controllers, Otis Lexan fixtures, New Indicators and Motors and Cabs, etc. Likely a Total Replacement)
3rd Modernization: Circa 1990s or 2000s (Done to Right Elevator ONLY, Voice Added, COP Replaced with ADAMS. Call Stations, Motors, Controllers and everything else left as is from the 1973 Mod) (Seen in Right Elevator in this video)
